This was the realty snap of the dining room when we bought our new/old house. Lord, have mercy!
Well, to each his own. I think we've done a pretty good job of redoing the dining room and making it ours. We still need to find a rug for under the table. Oh, and how can I forget the disco ball! We've lived with this beauty since last August. We wanted to change it out but other things took priority.
Then one day, not too long ago, we were in Lowe's and I saw a simple light fixture and I wanted it. Now Mr. Precious is wonderful and all but he doesn't do wiring and the such. My son in law is a Mr. Dr. of Chemical Engineering and can do almost all things. So...who did we call to remove the disco ball? John Travolta? No, guess again! :) Yep, son in law. In the background you can see my gals doing the John Travolta disco move! I love those little gals! ;)
Ta dah!! No more disco ball! Just a simple light fixture that I'm in love with. I only have eyes for you, simple light fixture! My eyes adore you, simple light fixture! For my eyes only, simple light fixture. Okay, okay, I can't help poking in a few song titles! You know me.
I didn't want a crystaly chandy as I had had one for the past 20 years and twice a year I cleaned A.L.L. O.F. T. H.O.S.E. C.R.Y.S.T.A.L.S! Sorry for the flash, it's so cloudy outside.
I hope you like my new simple chandy. I guess you've figured out how I love it! Do I miss the disco ball? Naw! But when it was taken down, little Carter said, "Shesho, the disco ball is so beautiful. Can I have it?" Of course I said the right thing, "You must ask your mommy." Guess what mommy said, "NO!" Ha ha! I love this stuff!
Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)
I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~
Stayin' Alive
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man no time to talk
Music loud and women warm
I've been kicked around, since I was born
And now it's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York times' effect on man
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
Stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive
Well now, I get low and I get high
And if I can't get either, I really try
Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes
I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose
You know it's all right, it's okay
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York times' effect on man
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
Stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive
Life's goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life's goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
Stayin' alive

A perfect choice Shelia! Y'all have made a beautiful dining room! Lowe's has some wonderful choices don't they? The style was just made for your decor! Great job!! Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour dining room is really taking shape! Maybe you could get a little disco ball ornament as a fun reminder for your granddaughter. Have a good day, and thanks for stopping by my slow blog!
ReplyDeleteLove the new one. I would have hung the old one in my garage!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great before and after! Your new chandie is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWow! The transformation is astonishing. I love your wall color and the transferware plates. The new chandelier is so elegant and beautiful. Love your adorable helpers, too. Have a glorious weekend, my dear!
ReplyDeleteI watch a lot of home and garden tv and as they often say, you have to look beyond the wallpaper, light fixtures, and furnishings of the current owner!!! You have done a wonderful job with the dining room. I do love the simple light fixture. Such a large room with gorgeous floors. A beautiful place to enjoy family holidays!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelia, you made the right choice to get rid of the disco ball! Your new chandy is just right, with the bonus of no more crystals to clean. Simpler is better - and easier.
ReplyDeleteMary
I was kinda 'groovin' on the disco ball (LOL) but LUV the new chandy! Looks so good and yes you have made the dining room you!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
You really have made such a wonderful change with the room, and I love all that you have done. The new light looks fantastic!!!! When I saw the old one before I have to confess that I didn't think it was so bad, but since I saw it up close in these pictures I changed my mind!! I much prefer the one that you chose!!! xx
ReplyDeleteI love your new dining room light. The disco ball just wasn't you! I have a pretty light that we installed the day after we bought the house. There was a HUGE ceiling fan above the dining table and with our small home and low ceilings it was a monster. Lights can make such a big difference. Thanks for sharing your new chandy with us.
ReplyDelete~Adrienne~
Wonder if the old fancy chandy was from the 70s, disco days? Your new one is a perfect fit for your dining room. Loving your red transferware, Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteYour new room and new light fixture are a huge improvement. No more disco dancing in there, ha ha.
ReplyDeleteYour dining room is just so pretty and I do believe that your new light fixture goes best with your decor! Oh kids, they do like sparkles!

JUST LOVED THE PHOTO OF YOUR GALS. I LIKE YOUR LIGHT TOO.
ReplyDeleteYour new chandelier is so right for your room - I did like the disoc ball though but have never had the dubious pleasure of having to clean one. I don't think I want to either, haha. the girls are cute, disco dancing for you.
ReplyDeleteOh by the way, I won't mention Maid Marion's knickers this week!
Diana

ReplyDeleteGreat choice and it definitely looks better than the old disco ball! Lol on the dancers :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your new chandy, and wow, so glad that disco ball is down. It really was something.
ReplyDeleteOh my. Yes. A great improvement. It's been a long time since we've moved but I remember looking at homes and scratching my head at some of the decor choices.
ReplyDeleteHi Shelia, love your new light fixture. The whole room is simply gorgeous. Great pick from Lowes. Mine is similar over our island but with another row. I did add some crystals parts. You have really given your new home a wonderful makeover and it is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove the disco dancing gals!!
Be Blessed and Happy Sunday! cm
Your family always has a good time, even hanging a new light fixture. Love the girls putting down the moves in the background. Your new light is lovely. fondly ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteWrap it up and give it to little Carter for Christmas - from Santa of course!

ReplyDeleteHi Shelia,
ReplyDeleteOh my -- Lord, have mercy is right! Yikes! I don't mean to be rude either, but that first picture makes me claustrophobic. It looks great now, and I love, love your drapes!! The new chandelier is much nicer and more suited to you, and your centerpiece is beautiful. Of course, I love your plate wall, too. :)
I enjoyed seeing this before and after, Shelia. Have a great day!
