I had to pop into Walmart and buy another Barbie model. Look at her hair! Oh, she's a beauty.
I made this darling little fitted green dress in this sweet little polka dot fabric.
It has little cap sleeves and look at the darts in the front. There's also darts in the back.
This style looks so attractive on the tall and trim Barbie.
Just perfect for church, shopping or a luncheon don't you think?
Here's the free pattern for this cute dress
As I was looking for patterns I found a blog called "Modest Barbie Stlye" and this young mother tells about how the clothes you buy for Barbie are not very lady like and she wanted to make clothes for her daughters Barbies that looked feminine and that would reflect her idea of modesty. She made some really sweet clothes. She doesn't have patterns but she did sell the outfits but unfortunately she doesn't blog any more but her blog is still up if you'd like to see it. I feel the same way as I want Carter to enjoy dressing Barbie but I want the clothes to look lady like.
Here's her blog if you'd like to read her story and see the adorable clothes - Modest Barbie Style.
Okie dokie, hope you've enjoyed my Barbie Monday and I'll see you next week!
Shelia ;)
I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~
It's Not Easy Bein' Green
It's not easy bein' green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer bein' red or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that
It's not easy bein' green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over
'Cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles
On the water or stars in the sky
But green is the color of spring
And green can be cool and friendly like
And green can be big like an ocean
Or important like a mountain or tall like a tree
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
~ sung by Van Morrison
There darling and such detail. You are a true seamstress.
ReplyDeleteOh, I so wish I still had the clothes my mother made for my Barbies! I gave them to my younger sister then she gave them a cousin, don't know what happened to them. Mother made them because they were so expensive to buy. I especially remember a red satin ball gown and a wedding dress.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you make!
Barbie looks dapper in the cute dress. Love the fabric. You are so talented. Lucky little Carter!
ReplyDeleteBarbie looks lovely in this dress, and just right for going out somewhere! xx
ReplyDeleteHave you considered making Carter any clothes using the same fabric so she could "match" her Barbie's? Bet you could make Carter some adorable clothes. Have a nice week. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Shelia,
ReplyDeleteIt'd be cute for you to make a matching dress--or outfit for Carter!
Shelia...you are just the bestest of Grandma's! You really are! I've made many doll clothes but never attempted Barbie's... EXQUISITE! You are right. Very lady like and sort of 1950's don't you think?
ReplyDeleteHi Shelia, You are so talented. Love this darling green and polka dot dress you created. So chic and the pretty Barbie you found to model, is perfect. Carter is a blessed little girl to have you in her life!
ReplyDeleteHave fun.
Hugs
How adorable.......You put darts in that tiny dress....you are amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I'd love to have a dress like this for myself. And look that good! I never like playing with Barbie's. I would get very frustrated trying to get the clothes on them and that's supposed to be the fun part! lol!
ReplyDeleteJane xx
How I loved Barbies as a kid! I may still have one but yours has much better hair -- and cuter clothes!

ReplyDeleteCarter will always cherish these Barbiw outfits made by her grandma! You did a fantastic job on this darling dress...but I wouldn't know much about this thing you call "tall and trim"...lol!!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, you just brought me down memory lane, Shelia. My Mom made so many clothes for my Barbies. I remember being so excited when she would ask me what outfit I would like made. Although, I think she bought patterns for them, she probably could have done some "off the cuff". Love the dress you made.
ReplyDeleteYour fitted dress is really cute Sheila! I've visited that blog, lots of great ideas:@)
ReplyDeleteCute little dress.
ReplyDeleteCan you still buy Barbie clothes patterns?
Barbie's smile looks even bigger than usual, thanks to you styling her! I love her dress ... you're right ... perfect for church, shopping or a luncheon! I'm sure you'll have an entire new Barbie wardrobe whipped up soon!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Thanks for sharing the pattern. I am in full agreement about the DOLL CLOTHES these days! WOW! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThis dress is darling! I love the fabric and the style and I loved visiting the modest Barbie sight. I'm going to remember all of this for my youngest granddaughter. Her mama and daddy will be pleased to have sweet and stylish - and modest - clothes for her when she starts playing with Barbies.

Oh, I am excited to see your Barbie posts! I have always been a Barbie fan, and love the home sewn fashions. Your green dress is a keeper - what a lucky little lady you are sewing for. Jane
ReplyDeleteWe can even go to a print shop to make the frozen coloring pages look somewhat professional.
