Hello, Dear Ones!
I felt the 'need' to slip behind my sewing machine again and decided to make some more pincushions.
These are really very easy to make. Just cut two circles of fabric, place right sides together and sew together leaving a little opening so you can stuff it.
I use the polyester stuffing. Then slip stitched up the open end.
I use a 'doll making' needle for this part because the eye is big and the needle is longer and sturdier than a regular sewing needle. I take a long piece of embroidery floss and use the entire six strands and tie a good sized knot on the end. Thread the needle and insert it in the center of the pincushion and stick it straight up til it comes out of the middle of the top part. To make each little puff, bring the thread up from the middle, around the outside edge and then insert the needle back into the center. Make sure you're holding the floss tightly to make the little puffs.
Repeat for each little puff. I made these two pincushions with eight puffs each but you could make as many puffs as you like. Eight probably being the most you would want to have.
I like a little something in the center top of my pincushions so I crocheted a little flower and just hot glued them down. Too lazy to sew them down. What? My most dainty talented fingers were tired! :)
I couldn't stop so I made a smaller one and used a button from my mother's button jar. She would have loved this! :)
Well, there you have it, my little pincushions trying their best to look like Mickey Mouse!

These are adorable Sheila!
ReplyDeleteThose are SO cute! I've always thought I would enjoy making pincushions - and they make wonderful gifts. You inspire me to try making one sometime soon. I need a diversion from the tasks of daily life making a pincushion would be a sweet way to do that!

I love these, Shelia. Wishing you a wonderful Monday.
ReplyDeleteMorning Shelia,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you had a bump-in-the-road when trying to post your picture. I really don't know why, but I fixed it for you. I hope I chose the photo you wanted.
Your mother certainly would have loved that teeny, tiny pin cushion with her button. What a nice use for pretty buttons!
Happy Blue Monday!
I love these, Shelia! They are darling, and so are you!

ReplyDeleteShelia,
ReplyDeleteThese pincushions are adorable, dear friend!!!
I do believe if you lived next door, and you came to sew with me...
at some point, I might NOT hate to sew any longer.
You have inspired me to give (at least one) a pincushion a try!!!
I'll let you know what progresses!!!
Fondly,
Pat
How cute these are! What a great way to use up fabric scraps and buttons. I think these would be great as stocking stuffers, or in Easter Baskets or hostess gifts . . .
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented dear Shelia...I love, love the pincushions! When I was a Young mother I used to make pincushions that looked like old ladies, so cute, they had glasses on a ceramic face and their dresses were like a cushion. I sold them in our own store and sold them by the dozen each day. I don't even have one as a simple, lol!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
FABBY
These are just as cute as you, and that means they are adorable. Have a great week, xoxoGinger
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute.
