Hello, Dear Ones!
I hope you all had a marvelous 4th of July!
God bless the USA!
Okay, I haven't told you but ever since Christmas my builtins in the den have been kind of a mess.
After our cruise and trip to Venice last fall, Mr. Precious commenced to be my decorator in here placing the Murano glass couple we bought in the dog house. That's the builtin on the left side of the fireplace.
He then added other crystal pieces in there too and I just didn't like it.
I tried to place my dogs around in the other builtin and I showed it to you HERE.
So before Jeanne and Bill popped in for a visit I got busy, took everything out of both sides,
dusted away all the cobwebs and redid it to my liking.

Today I want to show you the right side.
I love to keep my decorating books on this side but I had so many it just looked messy to me.
So I thinned them out and reduced my stuff.
This still may look like lots of stuff to some of you, but heck! I love my stuff.

I decided to go a little 'birdy' on the left side.
I'm so flighty like that you know. :)
A little birdy on the right side
And...a little birdy in the middle with a nice sprinkling of grandbaby! :)
As you can see I added my birdy plates, birdy figurines and tiny little birdy vases.
I found two of these white ones at a thrift shop and had to have them.
They looked rather olden and I love them.
Now I wanted you to peep in a little closer.
Of course I have little snaps of Carter,
although I need to update these...she has hair now! ;)

I took my little birdcage and filled it with hydrangeas
and poked a little ceramic birdy inside.

I left the cage door open just in case it wants to get out.
Now I'm happy! Now I'm satisfied!
Well, not entirely.
I think I want to paint the backs of my builtins a pretty green. What do you think?
As you can see, I snapped these photos before the 4th of July.
Now I'm going to sit in my little chair and look at paint samples!

Be a bunch of sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~
Xanadu
A place where nobody dared to go,
the love that we came to know
They call it Xanadu
And now, open your eyes and see,
what we have made is real
We are in Xanadu
A million lights are dancing and there you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally
Xanadu, Xanadu, (now we are here) in Xanadu
Xanadu, Xanadu, (now we are here) in Xanadu
Xanadu, your neon lights will shine for you, Xanadu
The love, the echoes of long ago,
you needed the world to know
They are in Xanadu
The dream that came through a million years
That lived on through all the tears, it came to Xanadu
A million lights are dancing and there you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally
Now that I'm here, now that you're near in Xanadu
Now that I'm here, now that you're near in Xanadu, Xanadu
~ sung by Olivia Newton-Johnthe love that we came to know

You are the best little poker around - love the changes you made, and still wishing I had the nerve to paint my builtins. The tray on the right is the most gorgeous thing, what a perfect center of attention for that side ... baby girl being the center of attention on the other side, of course, what a doll. Hope you had a great 4th. Hugs ~ Mary
ReplyDeleteSo cute Shelia...the shelves on the right are just like you said, "Flighty like" you!! I think what you've done looks magnificent as always. I know what you mean about wanting to paint the back of your shelves green - that would be a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteI have an entertainment set (built-in) in the Great Room that I thought I wanted to paint or change the back from the oak to something, anything else. I just finished a project and hope to post about it soon. I took foam core board, cut it to fit into the back of each shelf and covered it with pretty flowered fabric - taping it on the back of the board to stay put. Then I carefully stuffed the pieces into the back of the cabinet spaces - and I LOVE it!!!

Love all of your cute shelves...Little Carter is ssssoooo cute!!! Paint and wall paper seems to be popular in the back of shelves...go for it!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelia! The way you arranged your books is so unique and creative. It really has a touch of beauty!
ReplyDeleteShelia,
ReplyDeleteLove your built in cabinets that flank either side of your fireplace!!! Painting the insides sounds amazing! I've seen them done in wall paper also! I'm sure you're going to make us all drool in delight with your decision!!! Carter has changed so rapidly!!! Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us!
Fondly,
Pat
Love all your pretties! Your shelves look so nice - you have that 'decorator' touch!
ReplyDelete~Adrienne~
I love all of your pretties, and I love all of your birdies (tweet, tweet), and of course I love your Carter. But, mostly I love you.♥
ReplyDeleteAnd, I think your green idea will look great.
You "fiddle" so well Shelia! Your shelves look so pretty filled with all your pretties! I say go for it and paint the backs!!
ReplyDeleteGotta have those Grandbaby sprinkles!! After the grandkids have been here, then left my house in a mess -- we call those grandkid 'droppings' as we pick up the Legos, remotes on the floor, etc. etc. Have a good weekend - we are supposed to get cooler weather. How about you? Sally
ReplyDeleteI love your built ins. We have them in our living room, and I find it hard to balance what I put up. I love your little lamps, plates, and pictures. It looks beautiful.

I love the way you display things on your shelves. They look great!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky are u to have all that storgage! I love your fireplace, the brick, the size of the hearth and the big mantle...just what I want someday, and the built ins too!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely job, Shelia! You've given me some great ideas for my shelves. Thanks for sharing! xo ~Liz
ReplyDeleteYou have a great knack for arranging pieces on bookshelves! Back in the 70's I had a similar bird vase that had a macrame hanging piece. I remember having it in my first apartment and it had Philodendron growing in water. It hung in front of my sliding glass doors (with "Avocado Green" shag carpet underneath!:))What fun memories!
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by from the pinterest party to pin this and wanted to say hi!

ReplyDeleteHi Sheila,
ReplyDeleteWhere would we be without our stuff?! I LOVE going to a home filled with treasures for me to look at and admire. I think your home is gorgeous, and what you did on the shelves, masterful!
Hugs,
Patti
A pinner nor a twitter am I but I do love your builtins. I have lots of stuff and go by the "more is more" principle myself. Cannot do minimal no matter how I try. I love all things birds and you have such sweet birds here. xoxo, olive
ReplyDeleteYOur living room is so pretty. I pinned your pretty styled bookshelves.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little birdie myself. It looks very nice, Shelia!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Oh Shelia, you are without doubt a delightful decorator - a totally enchanting room and oh-so-tasteful. Really lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Sheila...I am so glad you joined in the pinning party. Your living room is so pretty! You are the best accessorizer!
ReplyDeleteLooks good, Shelia. I'm doing some rearranging myself. Fun to move things about. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteLovely! I actually have the same birdy plates. :) I love how you have used them. Those are such fabulous built-ins. I say paint them! If you don't like them you can just paint them back. I think it would be pretty though. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend!
~Liz
LOVE how you re did your built ins! Everything is arranged perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI am so envious of these built ins.... They look great with your magnificent fireplace!
Hugs,
Debbie
Sheila, you have such a wonderful collection of birds; such a lovely display!
ReplyDeleteShelia, your collections are wonderful! Your books look like the perfect amount. Can't leave w/o mentioning how nice your mantel looks..love it!
ReplyDeleteHelen
Everything looks soooo pretty, Shelia! I have to tell you that I made pillows out of that same floral/fruit print that you have. I must've made them maybe 12 years or more ago and I still LOVE them. I even made a patchwork quilt out of a samller version of that print that I have scrunched up on my dining room table. I don't think I'll ever get tired of that print. xo
ReplyDeleteIt's a lot of work to redo all of those shelves but so rewarding!
