Did you ever have a paint by numbers kit? Well, I went through a stage when I was a young thing and loved these little kits filled with spaces and numbers just waiting for my most dainty fingers to pick up the paint brush and then to open up one of those little plastic lids on the paint pots with a kaleidoscope of rainbow colors and start painting in the spaces! I can still smell the oil paints! While cleaning out closets a few months ago I found one of my paint by numbers artwork. I was about 11 or 12 when I painted this...
Her hair looks a bit messy so maybe she's just finished dancing in a ballet.
Now does she have that look because she's danced her tiny toes off or maybe she's been messing with her hair because she wasn't allowed to dance?
or
are those big ole eyes glaring and sending out those 'if looks could kill' stares?
or
are these little lips locked shut so tightly because she could bite through bullets she's so mad?
Now does this means she's just feeling uncomforable
or
she's guarding her tiny feelings because she's been naughty?
and
has the biggest ole eyes
and
the most important thing -
she's Pink! :)
Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)
I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Ballerina Girl
Ballerina Girl
You are so lovely
With you standing there
I'm so aware
Of how much I care for you
You are more than now
You are for always
I can see in you
My dreams come true
Don't you ever go away
You make me feel like
There's nothing I can't do
And when I hold you
I only want to say
I love you
Ballerina Girl
The joy you bring me
Every day and night
Holding you tight
How I've waited for your love
Sometimes I've wondered
If you'd ever come my way
Now that I've finally found you
This is where my heart will stay
I'm never gonna break your heart
Never will we drift apart
'Cause all I wanna do
Is share my whole life with you
'Cause you make me feel like
There's nothing I can't do
I guess I finally realized
There's nothing else like loving you

That is really good Sheila!
ReplyDeleteEven by numbers, I couldn't do that!
And how fun that you still have it.
And your right, we should help Laurie out and take some of the stuff off her hands! hehe.
Hope you have a great labor day weekend too!
Cidy
You did a very nice job...I bet you were meticulous as a kid! The painting is SO cute!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!! :-)

Oh she is so cute and you did such a fabulous job. I tried one of those once and it was TERRIBLE. I didn't miss my calling when I didn't become an artist. Have a super weekend. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI remember those "big eyed" figures...I also have a paint by number somewhere...I'll have to look for it!!! Great post Shelia...have a wonderful weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelia, I love your number painting. It looks great and you were only 12 years old. A budding artist. Smile. I think she didn't get her way and she is very mad. However, she is very cute and PINK!!!
ReplyDeleteA fun post and you are my first pink visit. I still have to do my post. I have the pics ready, so it won't take long.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
Love, Jeanne
I used to love doing those when I was little! I this one that you did with her soulful eyes!
ReplyDeleteLuLu♥
This is precious! Those paint by numbers are what got me started painting my own pictures. Just draw and then fill in the blanks with paint! Atleast that' how I paint anyway. I love this one! It is so full of expression isn't it! I think she is pouting! She got benched for outshining all the other ballerina's so they had to sit her out. Naturally, this beauty would be quite upset! :)))
ReplyDeleteI think she's pouting!
ReplyDeleteAngela
Oh, I think she is pouting about something - probably didn't get her way!! I was a pouter as a child, so recognize those lips. Enjoy the Labor Day weekend. Sally
ReplyDeleteOh Shelia, She is JUST the CUTEST little girl EVER!!! I TOO LOVED those paint by numbers AND ALWAYS had one in the works, I too LOVED the smell of those paints, But my pictures were always horses... Oh those were wonderful memories you just "SPARKED for me"... I LOVE your little girl. I think she looks like she is pouting, Maybe someone was NOT taking her to get ice cream?
ReplyDeleteHugs to you, Donna
Hi Shelia,
ReplyDeleteI used to love to draw cartoon girls with really big eyes and long lashes and your painting reminds me of that.
She is a cutie and does make the imagination wonder.
hugs
Sissie
Sheila-I tried one or two of these when I was much younger---mine never looked like this!!! You were good. I definitely think she has the pouty defiant look....and a little cleavage too :) Have a happy labor day weekend!
ReplyDeleteG'eve Shelia ~ Yours is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteEvery year in middle school those nuns made us do a oil painting like this for Christmas gifts to a parent ... I hated doing them.
Happy PS & beautiful safe holiday weekend.
TTFN ~ Marydon
I remember all those large eyed prints of the 70's...I thought they always looked sad. Fun pink post!
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute, love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!
That little painting is so precious. You should frame her and hang her in a sweet place..I love her and bet you had so much fun doing it.
ReplyDeleteNow, when I read "Well, they do it in the den anyway" on your other post, I found myself asking...what DID they do...and who is THEY.heh heh heh....
She's a cutie, probably just a bit sad at being stored away, but now that she's out she'll perk right up! Happy weekend:@)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sheila Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday and what a beautiful share. I love that you still have her. You did a great job for being only 11 or 12.
Now I have to tell you I know what the problem is with this ballerina. She did not get picked for the lead role, and the girl that did, she was NOT deserving of it. Thus the little pouty face. I am sure of it. I have seen this face before.
Thank you for sharing sweet friend. I have so enjoyed my visit today. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry
Oh, I love it! I think she's just shy, she's too cute to be defiant. I never did a paint by number when I was a child, so I've made up for it this year. I've completed two pink-themed ones lately. I've put pictures of them on a couple of my Pink Saturday posts. I've got my favorite of the two pieces hanging in my little sitting room. I haven't decided where to hang the smaller one yet.

Hi Sheila,
ReplyDeleteYou did an excellent job and how fun you still have the painting. I believe I still have a cat picture with the big eyes but I didn't paint it. Fun post!
Valerie
Sheila, you brought back sweet memories. I use to love paint by numbers when I was a little girl. I remember painting one of Christ that I use to hang up in my room.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday and have a wonderful holiday weekend sweetie!
Hugs, Ann
I don't usually like those much...but this is so so cute! Good find! :D
ReplyDeleteShe is very interesting. I used to just love painting those... thanks for the reminder, so cool.
ReplyDeleteHi Sheila
ReplyDeleteYour painting is lovely. I can't believe it was a painting by numbers and you were so young when you did it.
Thanks for sharing today - she's so cute.

I used to love to paint by numbers as a kid!!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post....a trip down memory lane for me!!
Debbie
Dear Shelia, maybe she wanted to wear blue instead of pink. Maybe someone made her wore a dress to be all girly when all she wanted to do was wear jeans and t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteTee hee! Cute post :o) Well done.
Blessings
I began my love of oil paintin' with these paint by number kits. I progressed to watercolors, acrylics, charcoal and pastels. I love your little quiverin' lipped big brown eyed gal. She's simply perfect for 'Pink Saturday'!
ReplyDeleteGod bless ya and have an amazing Labor Day weekend sweetie!!!
Hello Sheila! Happy Saturday,
ReplyDeleteWith crossed arms I'd say she's not so happy!
But, she's beautiful! I remember those!~
Hope you're having a wonderful day,

ReplyDeleteThese paint by numbers are really becoming collectible-your's I've never seen-how wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI remember doing lots of these paint by number pictures.. Wish I had some of my old ones. I see you can still buy them at Hobby Lobby
ReplyDeleteHello Shelia, Happy Pink Saturday. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a sweet comment. Love your pretty oil painting. I remember doing them and also remember the scent of the oils. Scents always bring back memories for me. I don't have a one that I did, this is a real treasure. I've read that they are turning up in antique malls now and becoming a collectable.

ReplyDeleteHi Shelia
ReplyDeleteHappy PINK Saturday a tad belated.
Hmmmmmm how sweet that you have that special painting still. It must bring memories to you of the time you painted it.
I wonder why she has that look....maybe she was a big defiant...love those big eyes.

Hi Shelia! I love your paint-by-numbers...and how fun that you still have it! I did some...maybe one...of a kitten, of course! Hmmm...wonder where it is! Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDelete..and she can paint by numbers....and quit well I say.
ReplyDeleteMiss Shelia, you have sooooo many precious things from your past. I bet your mom kept a lot of those didn't she? My mom didn't keep a thing of mine. Maybe I wasn't that talented, but I do remember painting by numbers, I think it was a horse, and I don't even care for horses.. oh well C'est la vie!!
Happy pretty girl ballerina pink Sat, now Sun.
Love You

Aw, she's so cute! I loved paint by numbers, too, but I sure don't have any of my "masterpieces". I do have one of my Grandma's though--she was great at them.
ReplyDeleteJust noticed you have a Scotty! So do we--our little love of a Wheaton, named Ceili. Aren't they just the greatest?
Hello Sheila, You are quite the artist. She sure brings back memories of those fun little "paint-by-number" kits we all enjoyed. Thanks for sharing the memory! ~Susie
