A Few More Little Updates

Hello, Dear Ones! I hope you all had a nice 4th of July! We did and attended a small little parade and visited with new friends. It's hot. I'm sure you all are hot too. My prayers go out to all who may live close to that old Hurricane/Tropical storm Barry. I still remember when Ike hit Galveston. Anyway...
I wanted to show you where we are with setting up in our new home. Here is the dining room for now. I think this may be the smallest dining room I've had in many years. But...it's very bright and light and you have to love that. You can see I haven't hung any draperies yet. I can't decide if I want to use my old ones or use toppers. What do you think?
If you know me, you know I love to hang plates on my walls. I put up my Spode plates around the china cabinet which sits on this wonky wall. You can see the pitch of the ceiling and the wall cuts off from where it really should be. But that's just how this house was built. So I was unable to hang them symmetrically and that bothers me. I'll get over it.
Then I painted my olden buffet! I love how she turned out! Just a nice creamy cream on her body and then I painted the top. I sanded and stained the top first but the wood just wasn't very pretty so a little more sanding and then I slapped some pretty browny color on the top.
Here's a closer look and more the correct color. I think painting her made her curly details show up much more.

Our Jesus painting got a new spot light! I'm wondering what I should hang on either side of this painting. Since it's Jesus, I certainly don't want to hang something inappropriate up. Maybe I should just leave the sides? Comments please! :)
On the knob of my little curio I hung this little replica of The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. How we love that sweet place.
Here's looking back at the entry with the front door on the left by the little plant stand.
This is the view as you walk in the front door. The wood floor on the right goes into the dining room, the wood floor in the top left hand corner is the living room with the kitchen behind the half wall. The laundry room is to the left of the cuckoo clock. So many columns! Of course I want to poke something on each one so I'm trying to restrain my tiny self!
You've seen the living room. Not much has changed here. We still haven't had the wall filled in over my drop leaf table on the right side of the fireplace yet. In time. Hopefully. I get impatient. I know we can't do everything at once but hey...I'm a woman! :) The basket beside the winged back has Willow's toys in it.

This is a great transformation I want to show you! When we bought our home there was no grass at all in the small backyard - just mulch. The yard goes back on the right of the house and behind the garage on the right but it is small and that's what we wanted.
Now look! It's beautiful with green green grass! We also had the live oak trimmed as limbs were scraping the roof and had caused some damage. We had to get that fixed too. We're so happy with how this looks. We brought in dirt, need some more to fill in the little flower bed around the tree. We have planted a few things but it's still pretty naked but hopefully next spring we will get some prettiness going in there. Love my little cardinal bird house hanging from the tree limb.
I certainly didn't want to disappoint you by thinking I wasn't cross stitching. Well, no matter what else I'm doing I always find time to cross stitch. I just love stitching.
Here is the top of Little Richard for now! I'll leave up my patriot pieces till July is over. I just love this look.
Oh, I'm so excited! I was submitted my ancestor and was accepted into the United Daughters of the Confederacy! Yay me! I'm not getting political and really don't want any negative comments here, I'm just proud of my ancestry. That said, you'll see my lovely hat! Well, the UDC ladies wear lots of hats and I wanted to wear one too. I bought a little cheap straw hat from Walmart and chopped it up (I cut the brim because my neck is so short and then zigzagged the edge). You can't see it but I put a navy blue band around it and then poked on flowers and some tulle! I think it turned out so cute!
Never a day goes by that I don't miss my babies. Here they were on dress up day at the end of their school year. Campie has lost his two front teeth and doesn't give a big ole smile like he used to. Then my little Carter. She has the most beautiful thick hair. She is wearing glasses now although she doesn't have them on in this snap. How I love my babies.
Then for your viewing pleasure...a bathroom beauty snap which I haven't done in forever! Mr. Precious and I went to Galveston a few weeks back and visited a museum and this was the fancy bathroom and of course I had to snap!  :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia :)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

You Are So Beautiful

You are so beautiful
To me
You are so beautiful
To me
Can't you see

You're everything I hoped for
You're everything I need
You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me

You are so beautiful
To me
Can't you see
You're everything I hoped for
Every, everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

  2. Your post has totally brightened my day! You are magical in that way. I would leave wall flanking the DR art empty as the painting itself is pure awesomeness. Your home is gorgeous and I thank you for sharing with us!

  3. Shelia, I am so happy to have you back blogging. I look forward to you posts. Your house is looking great. I love the "old" buffet's new look. I just did a small table with the creamy white body and brown top. I love seeing your style. Why fill in the little nook in your living room? It looks good with your table and your collection on the table. One last thing, I am happy you are a UDC. It is wonderful to be proud of our ancestor'a and the outstanding men and women they were. It is our heritage, and we love and honor them. BTW you look beautiful all dressed up for their social. It is great to visit for a short moment with you. Have a wonderful day. Oh, btw, your little darlings are adorable. They are growing up fast. Karie

  8. I love the way your new home is coming together. I would say - don't put anything around the 'Jesus' painting. It's wonderful and looks good as it is. Your sweet grandbabies are growing up so fast. What cuties they are. Congratulations on being accepted into UDC. Love the hat and your creativity to make it perfect for you.

  13. You are certainly putting your special touches in your new home. DR & LR look great! You were very wise to opt for a small backyard. We did the opposite....10 years later we are wondering why on earth did we want a large backyard!
You look terrific in your hat and that beautiful dress. This is a color you wear very well.
So nice to be able to visit here today. Have a good one and try to keep cool
    Take care

  15. Love your new house. Everything looks so lovely. I would put drapes in your dining room, but that is just my taste. And I would leave the sides of the Jesus picture blank. Your hat is so pretty! I can't believe you did that yourself, it looks like you bought it like that. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am so glad you are back to blogging. You brighten up my day.
