One Day at a Time

Hello, Dear Ones! I'm finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel with all of this moving and trying to set up our new home! I'm gonna tell you - moving twice, well if you count moving from New York, three times in six months is just too much!! I'm almost worn out but get a little something done each day. So...with all my complaining out of the way, I'll show you a few snaps. Actually, a lot of snaps.

Here is the living room for now. I swapped out the bedroom rug which is mostly blue with the living room rug for here. And...it looks good with my valances I made! So much to do still!! I was loosing sleep at night because there were no plugs in the floor to plug in my lamps!! But Mr. Precious came up with the idea of extension cords poked under the rug! Voila! It worked and now I have lamp light! You can see the old TV opening on the right side of the fireplace. Well we scooted my drop leaf table in there to hold my dogs. One day we plan on getting the opening made to look like the builtins on the left side. One day at a time I keep telling  myself. Oh, the big floral arrangement is trying to cover up the opening that goes into the den. This is a little bit of a crazy house.

I'm just having a hard time decorating, y'all! These shelves are on the left side of the fireplace and are too high! Mr. Precious had to bring in the 10' ladder. I thought my milk glass would look good in here so I lugged in every piece I own, and honey that's a lot, and started poking it on these shelves and it looked like a display case in an antique store and not a pretty one at that! So I just poked a few things in here. Maybe I'll get my decorating groove back!
It is dark and rainy outside so I fiddled with this snap so you could see it better. Here you can see how the living room is open to the kitchen.
Here you can see how the living room is located to the front door and dining room on the left of the front door. You also can see a little fuzzy bum bum searching for her ball under the sofa.
Notice anything odd in this snap?
Yep, that's my doll house. The only one I kept. Y'all I had four!! But Mr. Precious convinced me I just couldn't bring them all. I may have sobbed a bit but got over it and he was right - I don't have any room for them all here and I'm dealing with it - so that's why she is sitting on the ledge - no where else to put her. Have I mentioned how I miss my basement?? This house is a little over 2500 square feet - not a little house but smaller than the last two houses we've had. We tossed and gave away everything we could think of before we left New York and after we got here - we've become best friends with the Goodwill Donation Center! :)
Here's a little spot at the end of my piano. Love those little hymn pages that are hand painted with the names of the hymns. Got those from Etsy many years ago. I need a new lamp shade too. Will I ever get this right?
Okie dokie, on with the kitchen. This is how the kitchen looked when we bought the house. Remember, it was much darker in person.
Here is my new 'white' Bosch dishwasher. I just love it. Don't you love that beautiful backsplash? I almost threw up each time I came in here!! So...
Yay! I got my new backsplash! I could have gone with fancy tile and I looked but I decided on using just a simple white rectangle subway tile and I really like the clean and simple look it gives. I'm loving my white cabinets too! I just love an all white kitchen but getting white appliances aren't so easy. I can't tell you how long it too to get all these. But they're here now! Yay again! You see there are no knobs yet. I tried before the cabinets were painted to drill holes myself - uh uh. I barely made a dent with my drill. So, we'll get someone over to drill holes eventually so I can put knobs on. Who would build a kitchen with no knobs on the doors? A guy maybe? :)
You may need to put on your sunshades since there is so much light in here! My new fridge and microwave.

We had the island painted a beautiful blue and I don't have my colors near me but it's painted a pretty blue from Sherwin Williams
The cream tiles were yanked off and fresh white ones where put up on the island too! I'm sure that the raised area is an eating bar but we don't need that and I don't like bar stools. Maybe because I'm vertically challenged? So I'll just poke up some cute stuff there. Excuse the little stool you can see in the right hand corner - like I said - vertically challenged. :)
I poked Charlotte at the end of the island to hold some things. Don't you name your furniture pieces? ;)  She'll sit here until I find something else. I've got table cloths in the two drawers and doggie poop bags in the little orange LeCrueset! I'm so talented like that you know!
In this snap you can see my new fridge! Yay! It's white too. You can see the kitchen is really not very big but it's working out just fine for me. Oh, speaking of knobs I'm thinking of putting on a different kind on the blue island. I really don't like those pendants hanging down over the island. Again I keep telling myself - one day at a time!
I got up on my stool so I could take this snap for you! The above the cabinet space is odd too! I couldn't poke much on the left hand side because the ceiling slants! Shoot! Can't change that so I put in some short tureens on the right and a couple of pieces of milk glass on the left side. I'm not finished yet and need to put some trays or platters or something behind the tureens above the fridge. Do folks still use greens up there? I kinda like that idea.

Willow wanted to say hello and she wanted to make sure you saw her! She is very fuzzy right now and needs to go to the beauty parlor. I love this little cutie.
As you can see I don't have a lot of counter space here. Mr. Precious loves his coffee and has two pots over there in the corner by the fridge - a coffee maker and a Keurig. The window goes all the way down and meets the counter top. I'm still not sure how I want to dress the windows yet. Again, one day at a time.
We changed out the sink faucet. The porcelain sink is pretty so we didn't change it but it's shallow and I'm forever splashing myself and everything else.
I just have to have a few little pretties around me. These yardbirds make me smile while I'm doing dishes.
Love my hens on nests and found a new - the one with the red comb! Ain't she sweet?
If you've followed along with me for very long, you know I love Milk Glass. Found this the other day and the little mandarins look so cute all poked in.

Hope you've enjoyed this long post. If I haven't visited you, please forgive me! I'm trying so hard to get back to normal. It's taking me longer than I thought it would. Again I keep telling myself - one day at a time.

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

One Day At A Time (you knew it was coming didn't you?)

I'm only human, I'm just a woman.
Help me believe in what I could be
And all that I am.
Show me the stairway, I have to climb.
Lord for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.
One day at a time sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.
Do you remember, when you walked among men?
Well Jesus you know if you're looking below
It's worse now, than then.
Cheating and stealing, violence and crime
So for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.
One day at a time sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.

    1. Aw, thank you, Kathleen. Yes, I'm using my kitchen hutch it's on the other end of the kitchen but it's a mess there - boxes of everything, hammers and whatever I've poked on the table! :) When I get it decent I'll show it. Hope you're doing well.

  3. You have done very well with the decorating. Looks very nice. Moving is a work out and after so many moves under my belt I grew weary. Wonderful to have a roof over our heads. Getting refreshed and enjoying home life. I think you have made your new place lovely.

  6. Looks like you are coming along nicely with all the changes. The kitchen looks bright and modernized. Yep oak is a tough wood to drill! You need a specialized drill bit to do the task. I love all the open spaces your home offers. Your glass shelf display looks great. Have fun as you continue on unpacking and figuring out where things go. I imagine you are enjoying spring there already- we’re in melt down mode up here!

  15. Shelia,
Your new home is coming together beautifully. . .one day at a time!
The hardest thing for me when we moved to our new home
was finding the "right" space for everything.
I understand your frustration. Hang in there.
When time allow, you might consider a new Cuisinart Coffee Station
for "Mr. Precious". I LOVE ours, so does "Mr. Ed"!
Takes less space and is so~o~o easy to operate. . .and programmable!
Now, you take some time to rest and enjoy your lovely new home.
    Pat

I'd love to see the inside of the dollhouse again someday -- I know you made many wonderful things for it as I recall and would love a good look again! But it looks like you are doing a great job so far. Thank you for your visit to me. Your kitchen's new backsplash is lovely..Happy Sunday..Judy

  19. 3 times in 6 months?? I'd want to strangle myself. We moved ONCE last year and I HATED it.

The kitchen is a huge improvement over what it was.

Are you staying put for awhile now? LOL

  21. You deserve a holiday to rest up from all your moving! I agree with Miss Pat...a coffee station would be just the ticket for your kitchen. Your home is just lovely, as I knew it would be (because you're talented like that you know! -;). Give Miss Willow a hug for me. The boys would share their Trader Joe's Chicken Treats with her.
