Merry Christmas and a Big Present For Me!!

Hello, Dear Ones! Are you all ready for Christmas??We are ready and have a big present waiting for us.

As you probably know we are leasing a house until we find one to buy. We signed our lease for a year but uh oh...we found a house. We will close on December 28th. We want to have it painted and some other things done before we move in so having the lease house is a good thing.

I'm excited! This will be the first one story house we've lived in in over 35 years! With my bum knee, I think I will enjoy it. The house has 2,550 square feet. It's not huge but not small either. It's only three bedrooms - the master, the 2nd bedroom will be for Mr. Precious' office and the last bedroom for my sewing/craft room. It does have a little den where we will use a sleeper sofa if someone comes to spend the night or if they are very special we'll just give them our bed! :)

I'll shut up and let you see it. These snaps are from the MLS listing.

This is the living room. We are going to get a handy man over to enclose that hole by the fireplace where TVs used to go. There is also an opening right above the hole that looks into the den. I want to wall that up and have shelves put in to match the other side. No one lives here and we were told they used it as a vacation home so it's really pretty clean.
The bow window at the back of the living room is where my piano with go. We want to take that fan down. Wouldn't a little chandelier look cute up there? The floors are so pretty and the ceilings are high.
The dining room is a nice size  Someday I would like to change out the chandy.
Here is the little den behind the living room. The fireplace is a see through on both sides. That is a funky high window up there so I'll have to decide how to dress it. I don't know why they didn't put blinds on the middle window. I guess they couldn't. Hmmm...
Here's the kitchen. I know it's dated with those orange oak cabinets and backsplash. The granite is nice though. I want to change the pendant globes as they are really an amber color and make the lighting look dingy. We will have the cabinets painted white as you know I love white kitchens. Not sure what to do about the backsplash if we'll replace it or paint it. Have you seen backsplashes that were painted?
But...look at that wall of cabinets! I love this! I'm sure some photo editing went on with these pictures as the paint is really a light coffee color. Yuk! Gonna change that.
See the columns above those cabinets? This area separates the kitchen from the living room. I guess you would call this an open floor plan, which I don't care for, but since the pony wall is pretty high it hides the kitchen from the living room. I like that. I would like to have shelves put in between the columns so I can poke stuff on them.
Here's the little breakfast room that leads to the back deck and garage. There are lots of windows with nice light in here - so many windows that there really isn't a wall for my little kitchen hutch. I've decided to put up a white shirred curtain on the window at the right and just put my hutch in front of it. There may be a little window showing at the top but I think it will be fine. Gotta have a place for my stuff! :)
This is the master. Their furniture is huge and those side tables come up to my waist/ It's a very nice big room. I had rather have wood floors in here too but for now the carpet is nice. See the nice vaulted ceiling? There are all kinds of angled ceilings in these rooms.

Here's the master bath. We plan on maybe getting some new vanities. The shower is to the right.
This will be Mr. Precious' office. His window faces the front of the house.
This will be my sewing/craft room and the window also faces the front of the house. It's not quite as big as what I had in New York but I think I can make it cute.
The guest bath needs a little bit of spiffing. I love to spiff, don't you?
Laundry needs a little spiffing too.
Do you like it? Can you see me living here?

All in all, it's a pretty little house and we are excited! Who knew a year ago we would be back here in Texas buying a house. I was thinking back on my adventures since I've been blogging (10 years) and this will make five houses (including our little condo in Galveston) we've lived in! Are we nomads or what!?! :)
I found these cute little battery operated lanterns and poked them on the porch. Oh, those are not slugs you see but leaves! Thought you should know that. :)

Dear Ones, I want to wish you all a blessed Christmas with your family and friends.

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia :)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on, our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on, our troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
So hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on, our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay

From now on, our troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
So hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

  16. I love your new house Shelia! You will love a one level house. I sure do. This is also #5 for us although many more moves where we would not buy but rent a place. I'm sure you will do something fabulous with this one as you've done on your other homes. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
    Take care

  17. WOW Shelia...I was just going to say, thanks for popping in tonight! Things are fine here! I've been busy trying new things to find my niche in the working world again and girl, I think I've finally found it! I've been setting up my workspace at home...and will be sharing more about what I'm doing in future posts. Yes, I did see you moved back to Texas. It wasn't a surprise to me. I knew you wouldn't make it in the snowy and cold east! I'm glad you've moved into your new rental home...and are enjoying the warmth of Texas again! You take care too...and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and yours!

But, after saying that, I am amazed that you're going to be on the move again, moving to your new "forever?" home! I'm so glad, with your knee that you've decided on a one-story house. It's gorgeous. Good ideas for what you want to have done. Yes, I've seen [and even had] painted backsplash. In a condo, I painted [special primer] over small 1" dark brown ceramic tiles, which made the already tiny kitchen seem so closed in. I painted it eggshell and since stenciling was big and where we lived we had lots of birds, squirrels, butterflies and even deer, I did a stencil did a garden scene with critters. Everybody that saw the difference in person, thought it was the absolute BEST. Two neighbors actually hired me to "hide" their ugly brown tiles with my work! One neighbor still lives there and we keep in touch and she says she still loves her tile and my work and it looks great and it's been 18 years since I painted. So, just get the right tools and paint away!!

    Hugs,
    Jan ♥

  18. Love your new house; and I know you will enjoy it all on one level. We moved to a one-level house 21 years ago and I have never regretted it. You will get it all spiffed up soon, and it will look like Sheila; especially with that wonderful space for your piano. Happy New Year!

  19. Wow! Congratulations! It looks in great shape. (Yes, I'd do the shelves thing in the living room but apart from that, it's just adding your own style! Three cheers and now I KNOW your Christmas was very merry!

  24. Yes, I can see you living here and in no time at all you will have this new place looking like you want. It's a lovely place already, but with your touch it will morph into Shelia's HOME for Hubby and you :). I will enjoy seeing what you do to it!!! Living on one level is where we will be hopefully in the next move. Not sure where or when this will take place. Blessings, d

  29. I'm a little late to the party but that is a really GREAT house and I know you will love it. We are in the same situation-rental (1 year come Sept) and want a one story (maybe with a walk out basement). I can't wait to see you get this one all 'prettified' with your dainty little hands! xo d=Diana

  30. Thanks for dropping by recently. Thought I'd come see if you've been posting again. Love the house. I can see how you will improve it and make it your own. Wondering if you've named it yet? Give it a name and it will help you move in the right direction! Looking forward to following along with your makeover.

  31. Hi, Shelia -
I'm so happy for you! I saw your new home while browsing on my phone before Christmas and it wouldn't let me leave a comment. Now I found your post again from my computer so I can tell you that I'm looking forward to seeing how you make your new home yours! I'm sure you are 'knee-deep' in preparations to move. Looking forward to seeing more soon.

  32. Girlfriend, I had no idea you were blogging again! I just had to catch up on all your goings-on - you moved! You have so much more energy than I do, I think old age is taking a toll of me ;) Your new house is gorgeous, one story is perfect. And you will be warm there in southern Texas. So it's all great. Now that I know you're posting, I'll follow along on your house redecorating, can't wait.
