Redoing the Front Flower Bed

First of all, my thoughts and prayers are with all of the friends and family who have been hurt by hurricane Harvey! It just breaks my heart to see all of the devastation that has occurred. We've been moved from Galveston for three years now and it almost seems like I'm dreaming seeing all of this tragedy.

Hello, Dear Ones! I'm almost embarrassed to show you these next few snaps because you just may decide to laugh! I know so many of you are wonderful gardeners and have the greenest of thumbs. Well, we decided to spiff up the front flower beds.
Yep, bare as a baby's bottom. We've lived here now for three years and have just let this big ole bed lay bare. Wonder what the neighbors think?
Yep, just a nekked (that's transplanted Texan to New York for naked) flower bed except for the weeds! See the dirt spots? Well, we had a little visitor last fall - a MOLE and he did his job of wreaking our yard! We had it treated and he's gone now but you can still see his damage. The grass is surely but slowing filling back in. That little booger!!
Ta dah! Isn't this much better? I dug up some day lilies from the back yard that didn't get any sunshine and divided them up and planted them here. This bed gets dappled sun throughout the day.

I grabbed a trio of shepherd hooks and hung some pretty coleus plants from them. Always nice to hear a little wind chime singing when the wind blows.
Here we are a little closer. I bought some hostas and meant to go back and buy some more to border the front but just never did. Then some pinks and some white daisies and hope they survive the winter and come back up next year.
I bought three little boxwoods and put them at the back. Everything has grown since I took these snaps. The boxwoods need to be trimmed and the day lilies and standing up nice and tall now. You're not seeing weeds...no, no Nanette! :) I just love my little copper water sprinkler. She's so cute, I just leave her in there all of the time.
Here's a look from the driveway when everything was nekked. Well, except for the weeds.
It's such a nice view now. There is always something to do isn't there? I keep telling myself - one step at a time. Oh, do you see that tripod looking things over in the right hand corner by the tree? It's a sprinkler. Mr. Precious got so smart and bought a timed water sprinkler thingy he hooked up to the outside water faucet and has sprinklers hidden around the front yard to water it automatically. Now I wasn't really keen on looking at a tripod on  my front lawn but I've gotten used to it and it's kinda hidden by the tree. But it all works and we don't have to pull around a water sprinkler all day long just to water the front yard.
I lost a few hostas from last winter but this painted Japanese fern has taken over and I forgot what the feathery blooming plant is. Is that an astilbe? Shoot! I don't know. My thumb ain't green, y'all! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia :)

Rose Garden

I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime
When you take you gotta give so live and let live and let go oh oh oh oh
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden

I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover
So you better think it over
Well, if sweet talking you could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
But what would it matter
So smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden

I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just as soon let you go
But there's one thing I want you to know
You'd better look before you leap still waters run deep
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
And you know what I'm talking about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime.....

I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime.....

I Got A Dollhouse!!

Hello, Dear Ones. Well, after I've come back from my long blog break - I've been posting like crazy and today I was so excited to put up another post because...

I GOT A DOLLHOUSE~~
If you're new to visiting me you can go to my sidebar on the right and click on "Miniatures" and see what I've been doing. Not having a dollhouse I've still manage to have a great time making, buying and playing with my minis.
Mr. Precious told me to go and buy a dollhouse from Hobby Lobby but I just didn't think I wanted to put together an entire dollhouse - piece by piece by piece. I found out you can order a dollhouse already put together and then you just paint the outside and go to town on the inside. I still just didn't want to do that. So, I looked at Craigs List quite a bit and saw dollhouse folks were selling. Lots of little plastic ones and nice wooden ones too. Those nice ones mostly came with a nice price too.

Well, as time goes one I spied this one on Craigs List!!

Oh, I was just smitten! I rather lean toward a now a days house instead of the ornate Victorian ones!
I could see it was a little worn but there's paint! I got it for $75. Some of you may think that's an awfully lot to pay but I found out the man I bought it from had made it for his daughter over 20 years ago. I asked if he had made it from a kit - no. I asked if he had used some dollhouse plans - no. He said he just had the idea in his head and built it! I even felt a little guilty buying it and asked  'are you sure your daughter doesn't want it?'. He said she didn't want it nor did his granddaughter. SOLD!
Here she sits in my sunroom. I had a little turntable that you use on your dinner table to twirl around things on and poked it under the house so I could turn it around easily. I'm so talented like that ya know! :) The house has a dark green roof and shutters. It looks sparkling white but it's actually a dirty creamy color. I just lightened up my snaps for you and now the outside looks white. It sits on a pretty large base painted green to look like grass. It's a hoot that it has a red front door! I love red front doors!
Here's a few snaps: two chimneys, cute little front door stoop, a tiny garage with doors that open and shut and an upstairs balcony with railing.
I can't get over how she looks so white! Trust me, it's a dirty creamy color. Oh, the little front steps are painted gray to look like concrete.
This is where the biggest wear and tear is - the board it sits on. This dollhouse was played with, y'all! I'll just sand it up and repaint it.
I twirled it around so you can look inside. I'm loving my turn table. The inside is a blank slate just waiting for my touch. I'm not a true miniaturelist so I don't have a problem with not laying down individual tiles or laying a wooden floor plank by plank. Heck, scrapbook paper works just fine for me! Don't shoot me!!
Uh Oh! I placed some of my little furniture in and realized the rooms are not to the standard dollhouse scale with is 1/12th. Oh no! My little things are just too big to fit!
I grabbed some of Carter's little plastic furniture from her dollhouse that stays over here and the furniture fits! Play dollhouse furniture is smaller and is 1/6 inch scale ? so I think the man made the dollhouse this size! Okie dokie! I can deal with this and I'll make my own furniture to fit. I think lamps and little accessories will work just fine.

But I had some other plans for my house...
I grabbed my paint and brushes and went to town painting the house to please me! Do you like it? You're looking at just one coat so far. Well, the roof is done with two coats of a pretty smoky gray. The outside walls are blue with accents of red. I am going to paint the dirty creamy color on the trim a crisp white! I love it!
Now when you really look at the little front door you can see how teeny tiny it is. There is a plastic film for the glass on the windows. I tried to clean them but it is what it is. The windows will look better with some little lace and curtains.
Here is the little garage and I've only put on one coat of red paint on the doors so far. I think this will become a little garden shed.
Now this is a sweet little sunroom but you can't get into it very well - only through an opening in the room beside. Now I'm not a carpenter but would like to saw out this opening on the back so I could get into that room. Hopefully they make a little hand saw with a pointy end? I'll figure out something.
Here is the upstairs balcony which is above the sunroom. I have two little 'fairy garden' metal lawn chairs and they fit fine. Maybe this isn't 1/6 scale and it's 1/48 scale? I don't know!
So what do you think? Do you like the house the dirty creamy white color or the lovely new blue? :)
Okay, y'all, my stitching is going to have to go to the back burner for a while ans I play with my dollhouse.  Are y'all on board to follow along my mini journey with me?

Be a bunch of sweettes,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Home

Hold on to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave, wave is stringing us along

Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home

Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble—it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home

Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble—it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home

Come on!

Before the Hydrangeas Fade

Hello, Dear Ones. I thought I would show you some of my hydrangeas that are quickly fading.

The flowers look a little spent but trust me they were beautiful! So when they were fresh I made a little vignette on my breakfast table!
I found this lovely vase at Hobby Lobby! It was priced at about $60! Who would pay that for a vase even being so cute. Anyway, I payed $6! Sold!
I poked in my little cute olden Rooster bowl filled with some faux apples. Love my fauxs and my fauxs love me!
I'm a sucker for a pretty cow creamer and have this one in about five colors. Oh, she's a beaut!

Hope you all have a lovely day and remember...

You're all my bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

Paper Roses

I realise the way your eyes deceive me
With tender looks that I mistook for love
So take away the flowers that you gave me
And send the kind that you remind me of
Paper roses, paper roses,
Oh how real those roses seem to me
But they're only imitation
Like your imitation love for me
I thought that you would be a perfect lover
You seemed so full of sweetness at the start
But like a big red rose that's made of paper
There isn't any sweetness in your heart

In Our World of Turmoil

Hello, Dear Ones! I know you are all frightened, discouraged and maybe a little bit scared by all that is happening in our world. I know I am. But regardless, I know my God is bigger than anything that's going on in this world and I trust in Him to take care of me.

Now, being the silly whom (?) I am, I always believe we can 'escape' to a fairy tale world and make believe. So I wanted to bring a tiny smile to your most gorgeous face today.

Once upon a time there was a lovely little farm outside of the village called Peaceful. Oh, what a perfectly kept farm it was too. You rarely saw Daddy because he traveled with his job so Mommy had to keep everything running by herself, her children and occasionally a hired hand.
There was always much to do. Little Sister was so helpful and loved to carry the freshly washed clothes to the clothes line so Mommy could hang them out to dry in the cool crisp breezes. There were chickens to feed, eggs to collect and hay to toss to Claribel the cow. Oh, and how could we forget to draw the cold water from the well every morning at 6:30 am??
Now Mommy had to really keep her eye on Brother because he would hide from doing his chores and run off to fly his kite whenever he could. He was a good boy but 'playing' always came first in his mind.
Every day was a busy day but in the evening after supper all of the family would gather round the fireplace and Mommy would read from her Bible and then all of the children would tell what they were thankful for that day. They always prayed for Daddy who was far from home. On this one particular night Mommy realized she hadn't seen Teenaged Sister since dinner. Hmm...wonder where she could be?
Well, that gal had sneaked off to stroll down to the village called Peaceful with her beau, Handsome Johnny. She had stars in her eyes and so did Handsome Johnny. Lord, have mercy! She had better hurry home soon or Mommy, Brother and Little Sister will be out looking for her and she'll get grounded for a month! A month without Handsome Johnny!
In the end Teenaged Sister came home early because she now had her eyes on Tall Browneyed Paul! Each day rolled along. The sun would shine and there was always a cool breeze. Lemonade was always ready to be poured into thrifted glasses filled with ice. Daddy would return home and he would be greeted with hugs and kisses from his family.

The End
Isn't this just about the cutest little plate you've ever seen? I know nothing about the make of it but saw two of these little plates at my local thrift shop and brought them home. This little plate really does tell a story, don't you think? Thanks for putting up with my silliness.

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia :)

Our House

I'll light the fire, you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.
Staring at the fire for hours and hours while I listen to you
Play your love songs all night long for me, only for me.

Come to me now and rest your head for just five minutes, everything is good.
Such a cozy room,
The windows are illuminated by the evening sunshine through them,
Fiery gems for you, only for you.

Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard,
Life used to be so hard,
Now everything is easy 'cause of you and our—

La, la, la

Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard,
Life used to be so hard,
Now everything is easy 'cause of you and our—

I'll light the fire, while you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.

Anyone Remember Me?

Hello, Dear Ones! Is anyone out there? Do you remember me? I sure do hope so. I've taken a very loooooooooooong break from Blogland but I did want to get back as this really is my life. Sometimes we just have to step aside for a bit. So I thought I would let you all know what I've been up to.
Isn't this the sweetest snap? My daughter and her family rented a house in Maine for a couple of weeks and they had a wonderful time. That's my granddog, Finley, in the front with Carter and Camp collecting shells. We have had such a great summer with our babies.

Then...
We had a long over due garage sale! I kept meaning  to get everything ready but kept procrastinating. So Mr. Precious has a way of lighting a fire under me. He started setting up tables in the garage and bringing things up so I had to get on board and sort and price things. In a couple of days our basement was clean! We did pretty well on our sale but still ended up taking quite a bit to Goodwill.

My daughter had brought over lots of things from the babies - clothes, toys and such. I was setting her things up and look what I found!!
A preemie Cabbage Patch Baby I bought her in the 80s!! She had some other ones and kept them for Carter and was getting rid of this one. Well, uh uh. I pulled this little baby out of the pile and decided I would keep her! Memories, y'all! So I'll have to give her a bath and make her some new clothes and she can take up residence in my sewing room. Now I feel so much better.

If you follow me on FB or Instagram you may have seen this. Stitchings! Y'all I can't stop. I just keep making one piece after the other. I have tried to talk myself into stopping until I get some of these framed! Well, I stitched another one after my talk to myself! I'm a mess! :)
Mr. Precious and I decided we would tour our state capital building in Albany. It's so beautiful inside. Did you know our governor doesn't even live in Albany? He lives in the city. Albany has some gorgeous olden buildings but it's a rather run down city. Too bad.
Here I am doing my thing - drive by shooting! We have been doing some little short trips this summer and I'll be posting them soon on my travel blog.

Hope you've enjoyed catching up with me. I've missed you and will be coming to see you soon.

You're all my bunch of sweeties,
Shelia :)

Homeward Bound

I'm sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket to my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands my suitcase and guitar in hand.
And every stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.

Every day's an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines.
And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories
And every stranger's face I see reminds me that I long to be,
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.

Tonight I'll sing my songs again,
I'll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony I need someone to comfort me.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Silently for me.
