New Beginnings

Hello, Dear Ones. I've been very busy as of late. My tiny dainty talented fingers have been going to town making little miniature sofas.
This was my first set and I fell in love with my little sofa but that love melted away very soon because it's just a little too large! Didn't I measure? 'Course I did but it's too large for my mini dollhouse shelf living room. But before I realized it I made the little matching winged back chair - too large! What an idiot I am! I worked on these little suckers all day and that's the thanks I get - too large! Oh, well, you live and learn. So...
I made another set using a pattern from a mini book I found at a thrift store. I didn't have any more of the red and white check because it was a tea towel, I'm so talented like that  you know! :) So I measured really well this time and used some ho hum fabric for the sofa just in case it didn't turn out.
Well, it's not perfect but that's okay because it's so little. Doesn't it look like a 1940s style sofa? The trim really doesn't match very well but I had to cover up some boo boos so there it is!

Well, I decided to make a pair of little chairs using the same pattern. I think they turned out just darling! You're really supposed to use fabric with small prints for your upholstered pieces but I wanted to be a little daring so I used a larger print and centered the large roses on the seats and backs.
I added trim too! I found this little cording at the dollar store. There are three colors in each pack and they're just perfect for mini-ing.
Added some more trim around the base of the front and now it almost looks like a recliner! I'm just so smart! Please know I'm just teasin'...
Now I'm going to show you my fireplace. I bought this at Hobby Lobby and it was just natural wood ready to be painted. Well, I painted it white and it just looked like something was missing. So, being the most talented one I am, I've told you that already :), I printed out some little red brick paper and modge podged in inside the fireplace and around the opening. I think the brick makes it look so much more realistic. Speaking of realistic...the burning fire is not!

Oh, well, I'll have to work on that fire. Then...
I made some lamps! This is really not finished as I'm going to put a gloss coat on the base. I glued together two wooded thingys, then painted with a metallic gold paint and it just didn't look right. So out with the red and black paint. I left a little of the gold showing at certain places. I took some red and white checked card stock and made my shade and added a little trim.
Then while walking around in Walmart I spied these little wooden thingys that are pulls for your chains on ceiling fans and thought "lamp bases"! So another little lamp was born.
I've gathered all of my newly made pieces to show you.
I have poked them into the living room of my dollhouse shelf so you can see how they look. Lola loves her new living room furniture and that is as close to the fire that little Tang is gonna get. She is a little afraid of singeing her most gorgeous orange fur!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

We've Only Just Begun

We've only just begun to live

White lace and promises
A kiss for luck and we're on our way
(We've only begun)
Before the risin' sun, we fly
So many roads to choose
We'll start out walkin' and learn to run
(And yes, we've just begun)
Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watching the signs along the way
Talkin' it over, just the two of us
Workin' together day to day
Together
And when the evening comes, we smile
So much of life ahead
We'll find a place where there's room to grow
(And yes, we've just begun)
Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watching the signs along the way
Talkin' it over, just the two of us
Workin' together day to day
Together
Together
And when the evening comes, we smile
So much of life ahead
We'll find a place where there's room to grow
And yes, we've just begun

Getting Girly On The Finn

Hello, Dear Ones. Well, today I decided to decorate The Finn, decorate it 'girly'!
Come on in a little closer to see.
I grabbed one of my Blue Willow tea pots and went to town. I told you earlier how I love my doilies so I poked another one down on The Finn. Oh, and tea cups and saucers and a creamer and sugar bowl. Now we're ready for tea and if we will all switch to Geico we could save 15% or more on car insurance! Oh...I've gotten off track. I think I've been watching too much television lately! ;0
Okie Dokie, I've poked down a few little figurines on The Finn's shelf ledge...a cute little flute player.
Here's a little couple I picked up when we were in Holland many years ago.
Last but not least, a little girlie playing stare down with the geese.
So, I'm very happy with my girliness going on on The Finn. Would you like a cup of tea? I'll pour and you can have cream and sugar if you'd like!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia :)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

I Am Woman

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
(Strong)
I am invincible
(Invincible)
I am woman
You can bend but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
(Strong)
I am invincible
(Invincible)
I am woman
I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can face anything
I am strong
(Strong)
I am invincible
(Invincible)
I am woman
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman

January Basket

Hello, Dear Ones! Being that's it's still January, it's a little early for tulips so I thought what kind of flower can I use in my basket for January? Hydrangeas, of course! Well, I know they're not growing on your bushes yet but I think they work any time of year especially when they are faux. I love my fauxs and my fauxs love me. :)
So I poked in hydrangeas, pine cones, little dried green things and berries and sticks! Sticks say January don't they?
So there you have it - my January basket filled with fauxs!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

You're So Vain

You walked into the party
Like you were walking on a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf, it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror
And watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain,
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you?
Don't you?
Oh, you had me several years ago
When I was still naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, you're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you?
Don't you?
Well I hear you went to Saratoga
And your horse, naturally, won
Then you flew your Learjet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not, you're with some underworld spy
Or the wife of a close friend,
Wife of a close friend, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, you're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you?
Don't you?

I'm A Little Blue

Hello, Dear Ones. Again, after my Christmasing was put away my living room just looked a little nekked (that's naked from a transplanted Texas to upstate New York talk). So...
I'm just an old fashioned gal at heart and love my doilies! So I poked one down on my coffee table.
I grabbed a couple of candlesticks, a couple of books and a couple of Blue Willow pieces. The Blue Willow bowl is vintage and the platter was given to be by my parents in the 1980s.
I just couldn't stop there so I poked in some of my blue and white balls and said, "I'm done!"
Thanks for popping in to see me today. Well, now that I'm looking at this maybe I should take one little blue and white ball out of the bowl and lay it on the doily. What do you think?

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Blue Bayou

I feel so bad I got a worried mind
I'm so lonesome all the time
Since I left my baby behind
On Blue Bayou
Saving nickles, saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou
I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fun
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou
Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be
Gonna see my baby again
Gonna be with some of my friends
Maybe I'll feel better again
On Blue Bayou
Saving nickles saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou
I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fun
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou
Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be
Oh that boy of mine
By my side
The silver moon
And the evening tide
Oh some sweet day
Gonna take away
This hurting inside
Well I'll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou

A Little Living Room Change

Hello, Dear Ones! Well, you know how it is after you take down all of your Christmasing ~ your rooms look bare. I thought I do a little switch-a-roo in my living room. Now first of all I'm going to tell you it's been pretty gloomy looking outside and my living room doesn't get much light anyway, so I've tried to do my best to lighten up my snaps.
So you see anything that looks different?
Well, my six legged table (as my little mother always called it) is still in the front window with a new vignette on it. But there's more...
I decided to move my two winged back chairs to sit on either side of the table. They were on either side of The Finn and have been sitting there ever since we've lived here. I'm liking this look. The true color of my chairs doesn't really look this reddish in person.
I'll leave you with one more little snap as it's beginning to get a little darker outside. Think I'll curl up in one of my chairs with a Diet Dr. Pepper and a good book! ;)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Anything Goes

Times have changed
And we've often rewound the clock
Since the Puritans got a shock
When they landed on Plymouth Rock.
If today
Any shock they should try to stem
'Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,
Plymouth Rock would land on them.
In olden days, a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking.
But now, God knows,
Anything goes.
Good authors too who once knew better words
Now only use four-letter words
Writing prose.
Anything goes.
If driving fast cars you like,
If low bars you like,
If old hymns you like,
If bare limbs you like,
If Mae West you like,
Or me undressed you like,
Why, nobody will oppose.
When ev'ry night the set that's smart is in-
Truding in nudist parties in
Studios.
Anything goes.
When Missus Ned McLean (God bless her)
Can get Russian reds to "yes" her,
Then I suppose
Anything goes.
When Rockefeller still can hoard en-
Ough money to let Max Gordon
Produce his shows,
Anything goes.
The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today,
And black's white today,
And day's night today,
And that gent today
You gave a cent today
Once had several chateaux.
When folks who still can ride in jitneys
Find out Vanderbilts and Whitneys
Lack baby clo'es,
Anything goes.
If Sam Goldwyn can with great conviction
Instruct Anna Sten in diction,
Then Anna shows
Anything goes.
When you hear that Lady Mendl standing up
Now turns a handspring landing up-
On her toes,
Anything goes.
Just think of those shocks you've got
And those knocks you've got
And those blues you've got
From that news you've got
And those pains you've got
(If any brains you've got)
From those little radios.
So Missus R., with all her trimmin's,
Can broadcast a bed from Simmons
'Cause Franklin knows
Anything goes.

New Curtains

Hello, Dear Ones. First of all, I want to thank Susan from Ash Tree Cottage for featuring my little minis on her Ash Tree Cottage Dollhouse blog. That fact kept a smile on my most gorgeous face for quite a few days! So since we're in the 'mini mode' I thought I'd share some more mini-ness with you.

I decided it was time to make some curtains for the bedroom window in the now 'get away mini house' to soften it up a little bit.
I took some white fabric and ironed down a hem all around. Then with my most talented dainty fingers I hand stitched a running stitch at four places, vertically, evenly spaced, across my piece. Then I pulled up the threads and tied a knot up at the top so now I had a little balloon valance. I used a little wooden stick and cut it to size and hot glued my valance down to it. Then I took some tiny lace and glued it to the top of the valance to make it a little bit pretty!
 Kinda cute, don't you think?
Me and my plates! I had made some Mary Englebreit plates and thought they would be perfect for the bedroom, so I poked them up on the wall. Really they're poked up with a little bit of glue!
Hope you like my tiny little balloon valance.

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

Good Vibrations

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Oom bop, bop, good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations(Oom bop, bop, excitations)
Good good good good vibrations (Oom bop, bop)
She's giving me excitations(Oom bop, bop, excitations)
Good good good good vibrations (Oom bop, bop)
She's giving me excitations (Oom bop, bop, excitations)
Close my eyes
She's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Oom bop, bop, good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations (Oom bop, bop, excitations)
Good good good good vibrations (Oom bop, bop)
She's giving me excitations (Oom bop, bop, excitations)
Good good good good vibrations (Oom bop, bop)
She's giving me excitations (Oom bop, bop, excitations)
(Ah)
(Ah my my what elation)
I don't know where but she sends me there
(Ah my, my, what a sensation)
(Ah my, my, what elations)
(Ah my, my, what)
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations
A happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations
A happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations
A happenin'
Ah
Good good good good vibrations (Oom bop, bop, I'm pickin' up good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations (Oom bop, bop, excitations)
Good good good good vibrations (Oom bop, bop)
She's na, na
Na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na
Do, do, do, do, do,
Do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do,
Do, do, do

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

I'm So Excited (overlook some of the words as I'm singing the chorus!)

Tonight's the night we're gonna make it happen
Tonight we'll put all other things aside
Give in this time and show me some affection
We're goin' for those pleasures in the night
I want to love you, feel you
Wrap myself around you
I want to squeeze you, please you
I just can't get enough
And if you move real slow, I'll let it go
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know I want you
We shouldn't even think about tomorrow Sweet memories will last a long, long time
We'll have a good time, baby, don't you worry
And if we're still playin' around, boy, that's just fine
Let's get excited, we just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know I want you, I want you
Oh boy, I want to love you, feel you
Wrap myself around you
I want to squeeze you, please you
I just can't get enough
And if you move real slow, I'll let it go
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know I want you
I'm so excited (look what you do to me), and I just can't hide it (you got me burning up)
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it (yeah)
I'm so excited (how did you get to me?), and I can't deny, no, no, no (I've got to give it up)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)I know, I know, that I want you
I'm so excited (look what you do to me), oh boy (you got me burning up)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh) Hey, hey I think I like it (yeah)
I'm so excited (how did you get to me?), you got me (I've got to give it up)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh) Oh, ooh I like it boy
I'm so excited (look what you do to me), oh, you got me burning up (burning up)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, ow)

Great News!

Dear Ones, I have some great news to share with you today! You all know about Tang and her foam board mini house. Well, she was getting so very lonely and placed an ad in the Cat Mews Daily. You can read her ad above. The ad paid off and she wanted a mommy and just got adopted before Christmas.
Meet Lola! She was looking for the perfect kitty and when she read Tang's ad and saw her snap, she fell in love with her. Lola had just bought a big ole new house and needed a companion to share it with.
They have had the best time decorating for Christmas.
The new living room. Tang brought along some of her furniture from the mini foam board house. There is so much to do - hang pictures, make curtains. Lola got a good deal on free wallpaper printed right off the computer. She had the paper hangers come and do their job!
Lola loves music and plays the piano like I do. She sang and played for Tang! Needless to say, Tang was in new mommy new home heaven.
They both were enjoying each others company so much. Lola rested after all the Christmasing and Tang played with her toys before the new fireplace that needs to be painted. They didn't have a fire because they don't have any wood. But it's toasty inside.
Then there is Lola's kitchen! Oh, she has a wonderful eat in kitchen. Tang just never left her side.
Lola is a wonderful cook and she was always baking and making special things for Tang to eat. Tang has her own stool so she can watch!
So the kitchen stayed messy since there was so much cooking going on. There still is much to do in here.
Lola bought all new appliances and she needs some upper cabinets which will hopefully be handmade just to fit her kitchen soon. She also bought a brand new red mixer, like mine!
Here is the eating section of the kitchen. She got a new hutch and she will be painting it soon. She's been so busy loving Tang, she hasn't taken down all of the Christmas decorations.
Lola and Tang's new house has three bedrooms. This one...
Bedroom number two...even a special bed for Tang. Lola hasn't had the time to make a cushion yet though.
Bedroom number three...this is a child's room/nursery and Tang spends a lot of time in here playing.

Lola fixed up the little Dollar Store bed by making it bigger, added a headboard (which needs to be painted), dust ruffle and new linens.
There is a baby in here! The baby is nekked and never comes out of this room. Tang isn't really bothered by the baby since the baby never says anything! Well, being doll land, you just never know what is going to happen.
For such a big house there is only one bathroom but it's okay. That scale is always out because Lola is so concerned about her weight all of the time. More things to do in here too. Windows and curtains to be installed.
Then there is a very nice dining room! Lola went out and bought all new furniture and Tang loves jumping up and down on all of the pieces. They put a more formal tree in here. You can see what all is needed - window coverings and pictures.
This is the sunroom which is a work in progress. The long padded bench is complete as Lola made it and upholstered it herself. There needs to be a lovely window with a pretty view installed and then some kind of window treatments. Wicker furniture would be nice but it's out of Lola's price range.
Lola also bought a new washer and dryer for her laundry room. Now the laundry room is out in the elements at the moment. The workman have to come back and put up walls. Everything just can't be done at once. You see Lola is all ready to wash and clean in her cute home made apron.
Lola and Tang are so excited because their new home has a huge basement. You may recognize some of the homemade furniture from the little foam board mini house. Well Lola decided they'd keep the little foam board house for a getaway retreat. So they'll take back what furniture they need when the time comes.
No more teasin'. Back to reality. I really don't have a new dollhouse but I went to Target and bought two of their $17.99  put together shelves that fit perfectly in the corner of my sewing room. As you can see I messed up on the one on the right and got the bottom shelf upside down. I took it off twice and put it back together and then just said, "to heck with it!" and left it just as it is. The other shelf went together like a breeze. So the bottom shelves will be the basement for storing things. I'll probably make a little curtain to cover up the mess. I printed out wallpaper from the computer. Because of the patterns on some I did have to adjust the images around a bit on the wallpapers to make it all match, but I'm so talented like that. One more thing. I made two more foam board rooms that sit on top - the dining room and nursery. I'll do the same for the laundry room and then I'll make a front porch.
A little note about Lola. I found a bag of tiny little dolls at a thrift shop and she was in there. There was just something about her I loved. She was nekked as a jay bird and had this big ole head of messy hair. But that face! That sweet face! I found her way before I decided to start mini - ing. Anyway, I braided her thick hair and added a ribbon. I made her a skirt, blouse and a special little apron. Now she is most presentable! This is so much fun and I did treat myself to quite a few minis for Christmas! Merry Christmas to me! I'll be making curtains, adding accessories, plan on making some top kitchen cabinets. You know - stuff!
Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Endless Love

 My love,
There's only you in my life
The only thing that's bright

My first love,
You're every breath that I take
You're every step I make

And I
(I-I-I-I-I)
I want to share
All my love with you
No one else will do...

And your eyes
Your eyes, your eyes
They tell me how much you care
Ooh yes, you will always be
My endless love

Two hearts,
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives have just begun

Forever
(ohhhhhh)
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms

And love
Oh, love
I'll be a fool
For you,
I'm sure
You know I don't mind
Oh, you know I don't mind

'cause you,
You mean the world to me
Oh
I know
I know
I've found in you
My endless love

Oooh-woow
Boom, boom
Boom, boom, boom, boom, booom
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom

Oooh, and love
Oh, love
I'll be that fool
For you,
I'm sure
You know I don't mind
Oh you know
I don't mind

And, yes
You'll be the only one
'cause no one can deny
This love I have inside
And I'll give it all to you
My love
My love, my love
My endless love
