Well, I did it!

Hello, Dear Ones! I admit it, I am a copy cat and if I see you all doing something - I want to do it too
I'm going to show you my mailbox flowers to give you a little pretty before I give you my rant.

For some time now I've been seeing on your blogs "Follow me on Instagram". Hmm...otay (that's okay in grandson language). So I popped over to visit Stacey who blogs at Poofing the Pillows and was reading her post and she said you can follow up with what's going on with me on Instagram. I popped over and was looking at her Instas and joined.

I have no idea why but I decided I needed to be an Instagrammie too because so many of you are doing it, you know, copy cat syndrome. So last night I was trying to figure out how to do all the things. I did manage to post a snap and another this morning. Now this is where I need all of you wonderful Instagrammies to tell me.

   1. Why do you do Instagram? I know most of us are on Facebook and we post snaps so why
       Instagram?
   2. Is Instagram just another time stealer? You know what I mean!  :)
   3. Do you post every day?
   4. Do you always use your phone to snap with or do you use your camera and just email the snaps
and save to your phone library?
   5. What kinds of pictures do you snap? I was clicking away following all of you whom I could and
noticed a lot of the snaps are the same as your blog. Help me!
   6.  Am I just crazy or did you have some of these same questions when you started?

Well, that's my post for being a newbie Instagrammie. Any help you want to give me I'll take it! Am I just being a silly? Don't answer that!

Hope you like my pretty cone flowers and Black Eyed Susies. This is one of the spots at our house that actually gets some sun! ;)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

19th Nervous Breakdown

You're the kind of person you meet at certain dismal dull affairs.
Center of a crowd, talking much too loud running up and down the stairs.
Well, it seems to me that you have seen too much in too few years.
And though you've tried you just can't hide your eyes are edged with tears.

You better stop, look around,
Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.

When you were a child you were treated kind
But you were never brought up right.
You were always spoiled with a thousand toys but still you cried all night.
Your mother who neglected you owes a million dollars tax.
And your father's still perfecting ways of making sealing wax.

You better stop, look around,
Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.

Oh, who's to blame, that girl's just insane.
Well nothing I do don't seem to work,
It only seems to make matters worse. Oh please.

You were still in school when you had that fool who really messed your mind.
And after that you turned your back on treating people kind.
On our first trip I tried so hard to rearrange your mind.
But after a while I realized you were disarranging mine.

You better stop, look around,
Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.

Oh, who's to blame, that girl's just insane.
Well nothing I do don't seem to work,
It only seems to make matters worse. Oh please.

When you were a child you were treated kind
But you were never brought up right.
You were always spoiled with a thousand toys but still you cried all night.
Your mother who neglected you owes a million dollars tax.
And your father's still perfecting ways of making sealing wax.

You better stop, look around,
Here it comes
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown.

  1. Your mailbox flowers look so lovely, Shelia! I admit, I'm on Instagram, but I don't post very often. Occasionally when I am in a waiting room or similar I'll poke around on Instagram, but not as often as I should. Oh well, what can I say, I'm busy! I'm not on Facebook that often, either, although I've gotten a tiny bit better. When I do post photos on Instagram, it's from my phone. It would have been a great way for you to pass the time when you were recovering!

  2. I love to copy from all of you out there too. But I do not facebook or Instagram..You right about the time involved. I love your pretty mailbox and flowers. Hope you are having good weather to enjoy being outdoors. Blessings to you. xoxo, Susie

  3. I was hoping to see some answers to your questions on here! I 'instagram' but not often as I only know how to post photos from my phone and I don't take that many good ones with it. So I'll check back in hopes that there are some more answers. I joined because...wait for it...my son in law posts lots of photos of the grands on there and you know I love my grands!
    hugs,
    Linda

  5. I went out and got a smart phone to do just that, Instagram, but haven't yet found time. Where on earth do they find the time? They must not post every day.

  6. I am not on instagram. Really don't know much about it. And really don't need any more social media in my life. I can't post photos from my phone. I don't even own a smart phone. So I guess if that's how you use it, it would be pretty worthless to me.

  7. I'm on instagram too, but I don't post all that often either. Just once in a while, so just do what is comfortable for you.

  8. Your flowers are very pretty and look like pure summertime. I don't do anything except blog...and can't keep up with that! lol I love taking photos and working on them but it's easier to share them in a blog post for me. Hugs!

  10. I have instagram, but NEVER use it. It just doesn't enter my mind. So blog it is, and facebook. Don't need another "thing"! Love your pretty flowers.

  11. I know how it goes. Someone does something different and tells others to join...they do and they tell more...and so on. I did that with Facebook, Blogger, Google+, Pinterest, PicMonkey and refuse to do anymore. To me, [now at least] anything that takes me away from things I have to do or want to do...more than an hour in the morning and an hour before bedtime...is a time stealer. I even took time off this summer from Blogging!! I've only posted a few things. And I'm happy. That's what counts, right!!?? Do what makes you feel good.
    Hugs,

  12. I can't help you with the Instagram but I do adore your mailbox plantings. Very bright, cheerful and welcoming. Wishing you a very nice week.

  13. I don't Instagram as I would have to purchase another phone and I am not going to spend the money. It's all I can do to post once in awhile. However, I do read most of the posts that I receive and comment.

Your mailbox looks amazing. Have a great week Shelia.

    Hugs,
    Mary

  14. I just started Instagram (IG) about a year ago. I resisted...I thought it was just another social media thing I didn't need. But it's fun. Just post a pic and write a small comment. That's it. Like a blog minimized to nothing!!! It's nice to look at it when you are stuck in a line or your doctor's office. Ha! Do it and see if you like it!

  15. I am not on Instagram or Facebook that is mainly because I wouldn't have a clue how to set it up but also how much it would start to take over my life.

  16. I have to say I know nothing about Instagram, have never even checked it out. Getting to old to learn lol. Your flowers are very pretty.

  17. 1. It is quick and easy and a lovely place to be. I am not on facebook and cannot get to grips with it, so this works for me.

    2. Not really, it is so quick! Much quicker than pinterest.

    3. It depends, sometimes, sometimes not.

    4. A mix. Mostly just pics I take with my phone, but sometimes for things like podcast announcements I create on my computer and copy across to my phone and then post them.

    5. Mostly crochet! And the garden. Let me know who you are and I will follow you then you can follow me and see what I snap! I don't blog my IG pictures so mine are different.

    6. I didn't really question any of this when I started, but no, you are not crazy!

  18. Hi Sheila! I am on instagram! For me it started out as just another marketing decision to help with both the blog and now my embroidery, but it is kinda fun to browse through occasionally now too. I don't think it helps with the whole marketing idea for me too much though because I don't keep up with it enough. Heck, I struggle to keep up with both blogging and facebook, so why I thought it was a good idea for marketing is beyond me. I guess I'm a copy cat too! I do also think that all of it is such a time killer unless you of course are making a living at it (which I am not even trying to do) but it is fun to connect when time permits and see what others are sharing. I especially enjoy seeing family photos on instagram and retailers. I feel like too often what I see from bloggers is the same as whats on their blog or facebook as well so it's kinda meh! I tend not to comment on instagram (again too much time) but I love being able to tap the heart, much like the like button on Facebook. I loved reading others comments on here as well. Great topic!

  19. I've been "on" Instagram for about a year and I do feel it is a complete replica of FB. So I never post there, and I've wheedled down to two or three close friends I follow - but even there it's the same thing they post on FB.

One huge frustration for me is that on Instagram, on your phone right?, you can't enlarge the pictures so you can study the details, which is a huge big thing with me. So yes, very frustrating.

    Mary's Grade for Instagram: F

P.S. There is one (former) blogger who does post her drop-dead gorgeous pics on Instagram and nowhere else: The Meadowbrook Farm. Definitely worth following for the tidbits she tosses our way occasionally ;)

  20. I joined up too and post whatever feels good to me. I don't use it as a platform for a repeat of my blog posts but a lot of bloggers do. I just thought it would be fun to try. Some people use it like an update as to what they are doing that day.

  21. Sheila, I love this post! I have had the same questions! For me...it would probably be another time consuming thing for me. I am curious to read everyone's answers with you. Love it when people are REAL...us Nana's need to know these things. Ha! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  22. I can't help, cuz I haven't joined Instagram. I hope you get your questions answered and have a bunch of fun. Love you mailbox-it's so happy!

  24. I love Instagram because I'm a visual kind of person and the photos with little text appeal to me. I try to use different photos from my blog, but sometimes I use Instagram to promote my posts so the photos are the same then. Instagram doesn't steal time, it is a great time filler while waiting in line, waiting for meetings to start, waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting . . . You'll love it!

  25. Shelia,
    I can't Instagram. . .I still use a "flip~phone", dear friend!
Love your "Prairie" flowers around the mailbox!
I, too, many times become inspired by others posts and photos!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  26. I posted a much different rant from yours a while back because I have found it so frustrating. I would agree with the commenters who say it is a good way to kill time if you are waiting, waiting, waiting! However, I have a lot of trouble with it. For the longest time it would not recognize my password, the devices don't seem to be synced in spite of my best efforts, and I find it difficult to retrieve photos from the cloud most times. I like to follow people on there whose blogs I do not read, because you are right, there is a lot of duplication. You cannot do anything but look, if you are on the computer -- not post -- which took me begging on my blog for people to please tell me how it worked!

I cannot find one of those linking gizmos for Google/Blogger (there is one for Wordpress), so it does not help me bring traffic to my blog. I actually follow a lot of designers, etc., some of whom do not have blogs or if they do, it is not a blog like you and I are accustomed to.

The main reason I decided to join was so I could see the photos my son posts, because he now lives in China. I no longer do Facebook or Twitter because of the "high school" aspect and the incredible amount of disgusting spam it generated.

So that's my take on it!
    Ellen

  27. Hi Shelia, LOVE your charming mailbox!! The cone flowers are beautiful! I'm not on Instagram but given a lot of thought to joining. However, I ask myself how much more can I do on a regular bases and stay true to me and my love of designing and managing my etsy shop, blog, pinterest, facebook, shabby lane shops, embracing cottage style and oh yes, home, family and myself while trying to keep my faith at the top. That's probably why I'm still not there. It's all I can do to keep up most days. I do know bloggers who left blogging to downsize with Instagram sort of speak. So less of one and more of another but in short form.
We just have to do what works best and makes us happy. If I do decide to join, I will most likely post design photos, travels and my hand painted items. But, that's what I already do on the blog and more. It really can all be a time drain!!

I'm sorry I can't answer your questions. But I know you will have fun!! Enjoy the process sweet friend.
    Blessings to you xoxo

  28. Sheila, it look lovely. The cone flowers are so pretty, like framing your mailbox. I am on Instagram. I post once in awhile. It's another avenue to showcase your photos. I use my phone, so it's quick and easy.

  29. What lovely flowers around your mailbox! As for Instagram? I think it is a cross between Facebook and blogging. And, I do feel it is just one more thing to "check". But, if you have the time, I'd say go for it and enjoy all of the lovely pics. Hugs ~ Donna =)

    1. Donna, I'm not really sure where to comment back to you. When I click on your name, it doesn't go any where. Do you have a blog and if you do, what is it called? Anyway, hope you'll come back to see this. Thanks for commenting about Instagram. I really need a time sucker like I need a hole in my most tiny head! ;)

    2. Oh, goodness, Sheila. Sorry about that...I think I've just fixed it. I was set to "Public" but forgot to tick another little box. I really shouldn't be allowed to operate this machine. LOL!!! Hope you'll stop by. And, thank you for letting me know I was being so private. =? Hugs to you and Tang, too ~ Donna =)

  31. Lordie,Shelia- I think you and I are sisters from another mother. I 'joined' too but never use the darn thing. I wonder...do I blog...do I FB...do I Instagram...or should I just become a nun and take a no-media vow....

I will have to read some of the answers as to why now. lol xo Diana

  34. It is another platform. I think because Facebook has changed so much. I head over and follow you. I'm katiesuemans. I try to post a picture daily. Usually, it has stuff similar to what I blog about but not always. Sometimes it is a sneak peak of what is coming on my blog.
Hope that helps but I think you have probably gotten a lot of help because there are so many comments. :)

  35. I love Instagram because it so easy to use, takes only minutes, and its all about visual. I'd give up facebook in a heartbeat.I try to post daily but its sometimes more sometimes less. Mostly I take photos from my phone but also send photos from a post to my phone and then post. I LOVE instagram. Many photos on instagram I never show on my blog and vice versa. Can't find anything easier than instagram. PS can you tell I really like it!

  36. PS...when I post to instagram it can be set to link to your facebook and twitter automatically. So I kill 3 birds with one stone....I love it, did I mention that?

  39. Hi Sheila! I'm going to give my 2 cents worth and that's about all it's worth I blogged and loved it, but it seemed to turn into a business and I just didn't like it anymore. I still read some blogs, the ones that are just regular people sharing their lives, but I've given up most. Instagram lets me take a quick snap and share and I like that. ( I never got "into" FB ) and it takes a lot less time than blogging I do miss the old days of blogging when I feel like I made some connections but it is what it is. Love your blog even though I don't comment much.

    1. Oh, thank you for commenting, Sue! I know, blogging is certainly not like it used to be. I miss the olden days too. I had wondered what happened to you. So far with Instagram I'm posting a simple snap each day but it's fun and you're right, so quick.
      Be a sweetie,

  40. I will have to read the comments here but to answer your questions, I started because my best friend said I shoukd, she had started etc. So I joined too, she set me up:) I only post pics I take with my phone because I have NO IDEA how to take them with my camera and get them on Instagram. I need to figure that out cause ALOT of my followers don't read my blog:(:(, so I would like them to see some blog pics. I do not post every day, and when I do post I usually also share that pic on FB. XO

  41. I love your mailbox and flowers. I wish I could do something pretty around my mailbox but the post is set in concrete as part of the sidewalk and curb. Nothing fancy there! I'm on Instagram and - honestly - sometimes I wonder why. I do like some of the photo edit capability when I'm using my phone. I also have some friends who are only on Instagram these days. I take pictures of my phone when it's most convenient. I download them to my computer frequently. I prefer to use my 'good' camera. When that happens I can post to Instagram and Facebook from my laptop and it works. I try not to post many of the Instagram and FB photos on my blog if I can avoid it.
