A Clean Kitchen

Hello, Dear Ones! Spring is almost here, not quite, but close. It's time to do some Spring cleaning in the house. Mr. Precious has been such a help to me and taken such good care of me through my recovery. But...
As I start to feel better the little messes are really beginning to bug me. Things lined up around the countertops that don't belong, keys and mail laying on the island, pots and pans, clean but not put up. The fridge filled with 'get well' pictures from little Carter. I save them. Wood floors that need really cleaning.
Well, Mr. Precious and I decided this week to go to town with our Spring cleaning. He cleaned and Bona-ed all of the wood floors for me. I spent most of the time in my kitchen. I took everything off the countertops, and scrubbed them and shined up the subway tile backspash.
Then it was time to decorate! The funnest part! :) I still had a few Christmas thingys out! Can you believe it? So I held on real tight to the bannister and up and down the stairs to the basement I went. Putting up things and bringing things back up. I have a little basket I use to carry things up and down and this really helps me. I even used this before I got busted up! I'm so talented like that you know! ;)
When I walked into my little kitchen this morning I just smiled and was so pleased with how it looked and just had to share it with you. My kitchen is kinda small, not fancy, need more cabinets but I like it. I need to find out how to fix the panels on the cabinet doors that have separated during the winter. But I love my little kitchen. It's really put together in a way that works well for me. I didn't like the black fridge the folks let nor the black faced dishwasher, but they are really nice appliances and I've grown to love them.  Black and white, classic right? :)

I've been taking you around the kitchen and here's a busy little work area for me. I always keep Ruby the mixer sitting on a place mat so I can just pull her out when I need her. She's just to heavy for me to pick up and pull forward. Hey, I'm short and the reach with strength just ain't happening. I am so delicate after all! :)
I'm still jazzed over my mixer decals I got from Kathy who blogs at Kathy's Cottage. The little Pioneer Woman creamer looks so cute standing by Ruby. You do name your appliances, don't you?
Here's my view when I turn around from the sink area. I do a lot of prepping here on the island by the cooktop. Now I do have a plan. The island on the back side of the island is really made to have bar stools. I don't want bar stools I want a narrow bookshelf that I would paint to match the island and then I'd put all of my cookbooks there. I think this would be so convenient for me. As of now all of my cookbooks are behind the doors of my little hutch over there. I'd really like to free that area up for DISHES! The door to the right goes into the den and the other door in there is to the laundry room. It's needs some more work before I show it to you. Someday.
Still standing in front of the sink with the fridge to the left are my double ovens. The first time I had them was in our Galveston house and I kinda got spoiled to them so I was happy to get them here in our new/old house. The microwave area is kinda handy too and a cute place to decorate for the seasons. The cabinets above are used as a pantry for canned goods and jars. There is a pantry to the right but it's so deep it was hard for me to reach everything so putting the canned things in these cabinets made it so much easier for me to retrieve them.
Here we are standing by my little kitchen hutch looking back at my clean kitchen. I don't want you to think I'm nasty, but after my surgery I just didn't care how things looked because I was a mess. Now that I'm better and can do things, well I can't do the splits, knell down on my knees or jump up and down, I making up for lost time!
And here we are back at the eating area of my kitchen, which you see a lot, and I'm happy, blessed and fulfilled. Though I'm not going to tell you how sore and stiff my tiny legs are from going up and down the stairs. No, no Nannette, I'm not going to tell you that! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~ Love this song and if you haven't seen the old movie, look for it. It's a complete hoot! You know how I love hoots!

Car Wash

ooooh...
You might not ever get rich
But let me tell you it's better than digging a ditch
There ain't no telling who you might meet
A moviestar or maybe even an Indian chief

Working at the car wash
Working at the car wash, yeah
Come on and sing it with me, car wash
Sing it with the feeling now, car wash yeah

Come some of the work get's kind of hard
This ain't no place to be if you planned on being a star
Let me tell you it's always cool
And the boss don't mind sometimes if you act a fool

At the car wash, woooh
Talking about the car wash, yeah
Come on y'all and sing it for me
Car wash, woh, car wash yeah

(Work and work) Well those cars never seem to stop coming
(Work and work) Keep those waxin' machines humming
(Work and work) My fingers to the bone
(Work and work) Keep up, I can't wait till it's time to go home

Hey, get your car washed today
Be in our band, you don't have to pay
Come on and give us a play
Car wash
Talking about the car wash yeah
Car wash yeah
Come on y'all and sing it with me
Car wash
Sing it with feeling
Car wash yeah

Wowowoh
Those cars never seem to stop coming
Keeps those rags and machines coming
Let me tell you it's always cool,
And the boss don't mind sometimes if you, act the fool

  15. It really does look pretty...the flooring is so perfect for your black and white. And I love your mixer decals. My Kitchen Aid is black and has a rough finish so I don't think one would work. But how cute it looks! Take care...be careful! Hugs, Diane

  22. Your "little" kitchen is about ten times the size of mine! And it looks so darned pretty! (I know what you mean about finding unexpected Christmas -- I found some the other day, too!). It's time for me to do the big kitchen clean out -- a task I hate doing and love when it is done! You've motivated me!

  23. I think your kitchen is just the right size. I love Ruby so much. Also lovin the hutch. Glad you were able to get some spring cleaning done. Still working on that here. Happy April!

  24. I know how frustrated you are to be able to get around and "fluff" your nest! My mother broke her foot last month and I've been trying to get over to help her some, but she insists on following me around to show me what to do! It's hard for a woman to let go and let things sit without her own personal touch on things! — Take it easy!

  25. Sheila, your kitchen is lovely. Love the Ruby with those flowers. I have a red mixer too. The hutch looks so pretty all decked out. It takes time to heal, so not everything gets done. I would invite you to share your lovely post on Dishing It * Digging It on Sunday afternoon. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Happy weekend.

  29. I was just noticing your cute cake stand, the scalloped edges of of your cabinets and of course that most precious mixer.
There just isn't anything quite so satisfying as a clean kitchen and a pretty one like yours too!

  32. Your kitchen is really charming, Shelia! I can truly understand how you feel about bringing order to the special places after you've been out-of-commission for awhile.....it's tiring, but the joy of the cleaned and tidied spaces is blissful. About naming appliances....does "Mixer, Toaster, & Ninja" count.....heehee!

    Warm hugs,
    Carol

  33. Hi Shelia, I too have been doing some Spring cleaning and my kitchen is the first place to start. My kitchen is smaller that yours but it is fine for just the two of us. It actually is a big area with a combination dining area. A big country kitchen area with a small part being the actual kitchen. I too have an island with stools and it is great for food prep and eating.
Your kitchen is perfect and certainly shiny clean. I love the white cabinets with black appliances. Very trendy. Your mixer is so cute and good that it is handy. I know how heavy it is. Thanks for the chuckle, I do not name my appliances. Your new/old home is lovely with your touch adding charm in every corner. Most of all I am happy that you are up and doing things once again. Just don't go overboard.

I saw Carter's birthday photo on Pink Saturday for Beverly's pick. Carter looks so adorable blowing out her candles. It is a blessing to see her happy and well. I pray she stays well Shelia. Happy belated birthday to such a darling little girl.

Don't get too frisky my sweet friend. Have a wonderful week with Spring starting to pop out more each day.

    Love, Jeanne

  34. Shelia, I just love your kitchen! Especially your curtains. They are so pretty! I have a rough textured tile in my kitchen, and used a stiff brush the other day to DEEP clean all the tiny grooves. Oh my, what a job!! I used toilet bowl cleaner gel to clean with and it's amazing! I told hubby I think the tiles are the cleanest they've been in the 15 years since the house was built. I've tried everything on these tiles, and can you believe toilet bowl cleaner does the trick!! Hope you continue to improve. Have a fabulous spring week!

  35. Hi Shelia,

I really love your bright and cheery kitchen!! I'm still loving those curtains your talented self made -- they're sooo pretty. :) Your kitchen is very well laid out, and it's a nice one. I especially like the closet-style pantry; we had one in our first townhouse, and I would love to have one now. I love my kitchen, but I sure wish it had lots of bright sunlight like yours. It's a blessing to be able to do a good spring clean after all those inactive months, isn't it? So glad you're doing better!

    Have a great week, Shelia.

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor
