I Need Your Heyelp!!

Hello, Dear Ones! I'm in the living room today. Come on in.
You've probably seen this snap before as I think I've shown it to you before and I really don't still have pine cones in that bowl on the coffee table now!
I'm pretty happy, at the moment, with this side of the living room and my windows have coverings, got a rug. I did hang another plate over the Finn here and will show you later. But...
this is where I need your HEYELP! You know that's southern for 'help'! Well, anyway, as you see, this wall looks a little nekked, southern again. I need something on either side of that picture, maybe some sconces? I don't know. I just know it doesn't look finished. I need to poke down a pillow or so of blue.
Here you can see I moved the highboy in here by the sofa. What should I hang on those walls?
I love you all and you always give me such good advice so I'll be waiting. Be brutal even, I can take it! ;)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Hello Walls

Hello walls (hello hello) how things go for you today
Don't you miss her since she upped and walked away
And I'll bet you dread to spend another lonely night with me
But lonely walls I'll keep you company
Hello window (hello hello) well I see that you're still here
Aren't you lonely since our darling disappeared
Well look here is that a teardrop in the corner of your pane
Now don't you try to tell me that it's rain
She went away and left us all alone the way she planned
Yes we'll have to learn to get along without her if we can
Hello ceiling (hello hello) I'm gonna stare at you a while
You know I can't sleep so won't you bear with me awhile
We must all stick together or else I'll lose my mind
I've got a feeling she'll be gone a long long time (hello hello)

  1. morning Sweetums.. hope all is well with You and Yours.

I'm not gonna be much help with this as I feel you have your walls done well as they are. To me, the eyes need some space to Rest so I would leave it as is... Still, I hope folks will stop by and offer suggestions as to items that would please you in the area you mentioned..

    hugs

  2. Hi, sweetness, I'm leaning toward pictures because sconces and lamps there together, would that look like a lot of lights, so to speak? Or perhaps little shelves with little cuties on them? Anyway, I know you'll do what's gorgeous!

  3. What a pretty living room! You could have a whole collage of pictures, different sizes, in that space behind the sofa. I think I'd like that. Have a wonderful summertime week, Shelia.

  4. I'm always a fan of decorative plates on walls, or you could go with the old college trick we thought was so cool of hanging big wicker fans! Hahahaha! What were we thinking? Did you ever do that? So that leads me to think, how about a poster of a cat that says, "Hang in there!" Heeheehee!

Okay, I'm no help at all. It's such a pretty room, I'd be happy just sitting in there all day with a good book!

  5. My 2 cents :) ....Maybe 2 blue plates hung vertically on both sides of pictures (total 4 plates)... which would fill in area over sofa.... and also repeats the color/theme of plates you have on another wall... creating consistent flow of theme and colors visually when your eyes scan the room? I think room looks great... but I can relate to the "something doesn't look right in this room". I have the same problem on my rooms from time to time!

  6. Do you have more of those pretty blue and white plates? They would make all the rust tones pop. Just an idea :)

  7. What a beautiful room! I really like the sconces you have pictured! And that is all.

  8. Looks beautiul Sheila ! I like the idea of more plates :)

  9. I agree with the blue plates too!

  10. I hate giving my opinion when people lean in one direction and I don't agree but I think making plates another focal point in the same room is overdoing it. I think it looks pretty decent now. I read something once about not putting lamps and wall sconces next to each other however since this is a large area I might bend the guidelines. :-) I also like the thought of something flanking the picture and this kind of idea came to mind http://www.ballarddesigns.com/garden-district-mirrors/336689?SourceCode=BDSBT1#close

  11. I would do more plates. Repetition in design is soothing and keeps the interior calm.

  12. How about something like this? This one is too big but it shows what I mean.

I think it would look nice with one on each side of the picture, hung vertically so they point away from the picture.

The general idea is something scrolly and triangular, wood or metal, whatever color you like.

  14. More plates to balance the ones on the other side of the room.

  15. I am sure that your skill at interior decorating is far greater than mine, so you will figure it out to be just as you want it to be! xx

  16. Yes i would hang more! More is more! Lol

  17. Hi friend, It's a lovely room. If you don't have more plates, how about if you hung two very thin, long vertical mirrors on either side of the picture above the sofa. That way you would get glimpses of the blue plates from the opposite wall. The mirrors I've seen are only about 3 inches wide but long vertically.

  18. The room looks very comfy and inviting. However, if it was mine, you know I would get much bolder. I would look for a much larger painting (original art) to hang over the sofa, and maybe use your current piece somewhere else. I would try to find one with a lot of blue and and some rust tones in it, although I think that art should speak to you and cause a feeling within you. Do you like landscapes? Figural art? Facial art? Think about what you like and what would make you happy, not just "stuff" to fill space. Hope this helps.

  19. Sheila, you have a pretty living room. I have been typing away and then read Ellen's comment and I agree. Buy something that is similar to your bowl holding those pretty flowers across the room. Buy something that isn't safe, that when you see it, you just love it and it feels like Christmas morning when you go in there and see it. It should be full of color, including a little blue and a version of red, you don't have to match your colors, just let them blend. It's much more interesting that way.

  20. I think some family photographs make it more homely. Jackie in UK.

  21. I always think you have such pretty rooms. Love the wall arrangement of plates and I think maybe more of the same color on either side of the picture would be pretty. Whatever you do I know it will be lovely.
    Happy Day........

  22. Hi Shelia, oh your home is gorgeous but I know what you mean when making additions. Sometime we need another set of eye. I might add some little shelf's or urns with tall flowers inside to change with the seasons. Try not to spread out to much unless you are wanting a gallery look. Placing a larger framed painting over the sofa pulls the area together and takes away the too much accents kind of look. You want the eye to settle on a focal point. I know what ever you do your home will be lovely. You will know when it's right. I like Mildred's idea with long mirrors too similar to my tall urn idea. More plates might over do it.

Have fun and enjoy the process. Hugs and Blessings my friend, CM

  23. Your living room is really pretty and welcoming, Shelia! I would go with a larger piece of art with more color above your sofa. I think it would balance your colors more. I like one simple piece rather than a lot of small things. I'm sure anything you do will look lovely because you've already put together a beautiful room!
    love and blessings~

  24. Lovely, Shelia. I know what you mean, maybe a bigger piece of art with your accent color, or even an unbalanced composition with one sconce and a shelf to one side of the art. Whatever you do will be amazing like you always do!

    Patti

  25. I think I'd add a few mirrors on either side of the picture. Either two matching, one on each side OR several on each side in different sizes/shapes. I wouldn't add anything else to the sides of that -- the blank space helps draw attention to your new grouping in the center.

  26. I vote for plates, too. BTW, I love your draperies!

  27. Here is what I did on a long blank wall and it is amazing that you have VERY similiar sconces in the picture!!! BTW, how do you DO that on the computer???? I have never figured that out!!! Here is the link: http://designsbypinky.blogspot.com/2015/06/my-office-and-new-desk.html Hope this helps

  28. Love your living room Sheila. I would do a collage of pictures behind the sofa with a wall cling of some kind. That said something about family...Bible verse or something. The only other thing that came to mind was a huge mirror would be really pretty---horizontal. Love the blue and white plates on the wall too! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  29. Shelia,
Oh, dear friend, your home is gorgeous!!!
I know you're seeking advice. . .I'm not so good at that.
I put a pediment above the photos in my living room above the sofa. I LOVE IT!!!
I adore the photos in my Traditional magazines where they stack the photos atop one another with similar or matching frames. . .maybe three or four in a vertical row for narrow spaces.
In one of my recent posts, I used a Southern Cottage Magazine inspiration for the lower level Family room re~arrange. . .now I'm trying to duplicate some of the art work arrangements seen in their photos!!!
Whatever you do will look lovely, dear one!!!
    Not much help, I'm afraid!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  30. Sconces are nice. Or a small arrangement of additional art/photos -- maybe horizontal 8x10s bracketing the larger art? It's a beautiful room, Shelia!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gosh, I think the room looks great as is!! But if its not quite right for you, then experiment........I like the current picture with a narrow mirror on each side. OR...a different larger picture with nothing on either side. Love the idea of a pediment above the picture. Nix the sconces, too much with the matching lamps.....not in favor of more plates, too busy. Don't start putting a lot of little stuff up there just to fill the space.....

Whatever you do, make it something you love!!! Happy summer dear friend!! xoxoxo

  32. Oh my, every time I look at your pretty room, I get all comfortable inside! I have read some great suggestions here...I do agree that maybe a larger piece of art replacing the existing one above the couch. Here's another suggestion...how about a mirror collage (all shapes, sizes of mirrors in frames) over the couch that would take up a larger space on the wall and also reflecting bits of those blue plates hanging on the opposite wall? I have no doubt whatever you choose, it will look absolutely wonderful, Sheila!

  33. I see several others agree with me Shelia, a larger picture over the sofa. The one you have is pretty, but it sort of gets lost in the expanse of the wall.

  34. Ok, girlfriend...I LOVE to give out advice ...LOL
If this gorgeous room was mine...I would put a fairly heavy looking shelf or even two, one over the other...heavy, curvy, sexy brackets, maybe pretty corbels, and that would balance your sofa out and also give you more places to put some of your pretty things..A few books, a pot or two or faux ivy or such....
O, I can just almost see it now....t'would be so pretty.
You do such a great job of decorating, I know it will all be wonderful.

  35. you will figure it out, I know you will! I think it is beautiful....I love big sconces....long....and I love plates....but nothing looks good too! I am a big heylp, aren't I?

  36. I'm a sconce girl myself, I think you have the right idea...doesn't matter about the lamps being close by. I saw these and thought of you. Not that you would want them, just had to show you. CUTE http://www.wards.com/Home-Store/Wall-Decor/index.cat

  37. I love Country Western. Didn't Faron Young start out as Terry Preston..in San Diego on the Smokey Rogers show. They both appears right in my home town ..at the Bostonia Ballroom. Wow..I forgot where I sat my coffee down but can remember all that. :)
Your room..oh sweet friend..you won't like my advice. I'm in a rut. I'm using wallpaper in my living room and making an accent wall. It's amazing stuff ...I need a change too. After looking at my own and never being happy, I think yours looks great..so ..I'm NO help at all. When all else fails...paper.. I mean you can always take it down...I mean HAVE it taken down. :) I'm going back and look again..but I'm sure I still just think "WALLPAPER!"
    Hugs!

  39. OK, I am late reading answering this, sorry - Oh man life has been CRAZY busy for me lately....but here is my thoughts:

You have a lot going on,Shelia. You have pattern and wall art and such......I love the idea of those two sconces, but don't put anything else up on the other side of them. A person's eye needs to have a resting place when looking about a room. You have just the perfect amount. If you fill with much more it will give you a look of being too busy. Let your eyes rest, enjoy your textures and patterns and pretty collections and art work. Youhave heard "less is more" right? Well it is a cliche because it is soooo true.

IF you feel as thought it needs a little something, how about one wall with color instead? It will "fill" that need to fill that space up but still be a less is more concept. Or how about a chair rail going down the length of that wall? You could paint the bottom a richer color and keep the top the same color. but don't add more wall art. I wouldn't anyway.

And I'd still put your gorgeous piano in the corner and turned around. : - )

Sorry I have been so absent, life has been more than hectic and the thing that gives is the fun stuff like blogging. : - (

Love you lady! Please don't forget me! I will be back asap!

  40. Hi Sheila - lovely as is, but if you were adding, I'm with the blue & white plate group and I also liked the idea of the two slim vertical mirrors. Whatever you decide will be beautiful - you have a way of making your home perfect. Fun choice in songs today, too - I remember my dad listening to it in the car when I was a kid! Jane
