No Peeping Toms!

Hello, Dear Ones! I know I told you I would show you the crocheted things I've been making but I just haven't taken any snaps of them yet so I'll show you something else that I've been up to.

Okie dokie! That's right, I don't want no pepping toms around here! This bay window in the kitchen was rather nekked (that's transplanted Texan for naked) with just little ruffled valances. Now that it's winter, all the leaves from the trees are gone and...there could be peeping toms!
We're not too close to our neighbors behind us but at night if their lights are on I can see them walking around and if I can see them without even trying ~ gasp! they can see me too!
I went to town fixin' the situation. My daughter gave me some sheers she had and I chopped them up to fit the bottom half of the bay. The light still comes in beautifully and as you can tell from these first few snaps, it's hard to get a good picture with the light.
Now that I had the sheers up the next thing to do was decorate the window sill. I love this little place to play.
If you visit me often you'll recognize my decor items here.
These two urns with the topiaries used to sit on my mantel in Texas at different times. Thought I'd poke them down here.
Then my favorite yard bird. He's so handsome and can you see the smile on his little face?
Okay now for the test because it's dark outside now. These are sheers and I know if someone were standing right outside the kitchen window they could see inside but from across the woods I think we're okay. I don't believe we'll have any peeping toms.
Whew! I get scared when I think of peeping toms!
Here you can see the little design on the sheers. I believe my daughter got these from Walmart. I just measured and cut them up to fit these windows. Don't look too closely as they're not sewn perfectly but I don't care. Zero dollars to fix my dilemma of peeping toms!
Okay, I do believe any peeping toms will move on down to the next house don't you? We sure don't want no peeping toms around here!
Shelia :)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Every Move You Make

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you

O can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

Since you've gone I been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby please

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

  1. Your 'new' sheers look pretty and I'm sure they'll do the trick. They have a pretty pattern to them. Your window looks very nice. Have a wonderful week ahead. Hugs. Pam

  2. They look really pretty and make the window a lovely area to display your things and you can always take them down in the summer when the leaves come back can't you! I love how you change things around all the time, it is nice isn't it. I just realised that the cockerel pitchers - we call them jugs - on top of the hutch in your breakfast area are the same as two that I have! One in the same colourway as yours and one that is more blues. I knew that we had lots in common!! xx

  4. Ah, your kitchen is lovely! And I like the addition of the curtains. I need to do that. Although I don't need them for the privacy (we live in the middle of nowhere with a long driveway), it would perk up the kitchen for these winter months.

  5. I love your kitchen Shelia! It's so pretty and welcoming. I wondered about your windows being nekked and all. I have a problem without something covering my windows...and when we vacation, I really don't like nekked windows in the rental house we stay in...and alot of them have very nekked windows. I love what you did with your windows to keep the peepers away!

  11. I am another one that has to have some type of curtain, be it a sheer or a drape...don't want any peeping Tom or Susans looking in on me! What a beautiful, cheery kitchen, Sheila! Love all the rooster touches you have added.
    Have a wonderful week.

  13. your sheers are perfect and they really look good. Love your fav roos. I have one very similar to yours only it is a cookie jar and I love it. I was disappointed at Christmas as I did not get any roosters. But I am really getting over run by them. But much to my surprise, my very BFF got me 6 rooster plates with bibed overall's on and a lovely rooster weather vein.. We didn't get together right after Christmas as her husband had the flu and I didn't want to catch it.
Your new home is really coming together nicely - everything looks so good.
    Have a terrific week.

  14. My nets came down at Christmas for a wash and oh dear, they disintegrated. I got used to not having them and thought maybe I wouldn't bother but now the birds are crashing into the window so I think I'll have to put more up. Eldest daughter has some of mine she's going to get round to sewing for me...one day :) Maybe I'll have to give her a hurry up.

  15. No we don't want peeping Tom's. Sure don't want the neighbor to see when we a walking around nekked.

  16. I have the same probem with the windows in the breakfast room. I have the natchstick blinds at the top but NEED something on the bottom. WeRE close to our neighbors behind us and they can see right into the kitchen and breakfast room. I am thinking I will get shutters. That is what they have and then they can be opened during the day and closed at night. I just have to GET THEM ORDERED!!!:) I love your sheers, that is a great solution!!!!!

  18. Looks great, Shelia. I don't have any window covering on any of my windows except the bedroom. Don't know why -- just seemed easier without, I guess! Those look very nice!

  19. Shelia, it sure looks nice. Love your cheery colors and nice to see our old friend the Rooster! They may WANT to peep but they won't be able to!

  20. I love your shirred window treatments, Shelia! I've used this style of curtains on the bottom half of our double hung windows for years and as far as I know, we haven't been spied on!! I did replace them with plantation shutters on the main floor, but I've still got the sheers upstairs in the master bedroom. Our youngest daughter lives in the country where it's DARK at night, and I always get the feeling somebody's watching us through her bare windows!!

  23. Looks great. I have nekkid windows in my kitchen and dining room. :) Mostly because I can't decide what I want on them and because we live in the country far enough away from the neighbors that no one can see anything :)

  29. A very pretty solution, Sheila! I love the pattern on the sheers. We had no one behind us on Long Island, but I still had roman shades on the kitchen windows. You never knew - someone could be in the yard checking things out on the inside!

  30. I love your sheers and the pattern is wonderful! I think they add a lot of style to your room and it's the perfect solution to 'peeping neighbors'!

  31. Very pretty, Shelia!

One of my neighbors leave their blinds open at night and I can tell what they're watching on TV. I can't relate to that at all! I'm all about privacy.

  42. Hi Shelia, Beautiful look to your pretty bay window and you got the privacy you needed without covering too much of the view. Love those sheers and the sweet little pattern in them. You did a great job and fixed the problem. Your whole kitchen is so darling and I love all your pretty accents. Love what you did on the window ledge. So French country and gorgeous. Wish I could stop by for tea and sit at your table!!

  45. I love your kitchen and especially the bay window. I had a bay window in our first home-a mobile home. But it was my favorite little love nest that we had. I still remember the sheers and I remember all my little knick-knacks that sat on it. So very pretty!

  49. I am trying to figure out how to cover without covering our very old PA farmhouse kitchen windows that are different from yours but your smart lovely solution caught my eye I like it. I'll have to go digging in the bins with material and curtains and find my scissors! Visiting from Amaze Me Monday! Linda @ bushelandapickle.com

  51. Oh I love the pretty design in your sheer cafe curtains, Shelia! They turned out great and they look perfect with the blue and yellow valances. :) I'm really funny about having bare windows in the house. My husband used to travel a lot on business when we first moved here, and I wanted something I could close at night (like blinds) at all the windows. It seems silly, but I don't like the thought that someone could be looking in; they could see us but we couldn't see them.

I love your nice big window; I'm sure it lets in lots of wonderful sunlight. Thanks for sharing Shelia and have a great week!
