The House Is Ours!

Hello, Dear Ones! Well, I thought I could finally show you the house we've bought in New York! I wanted to wait until the closing date was set and it will be August 20th! Of course the house is not really ours until we sign the papers but I couldn't wait to show you.
Again, I believe it must be a practice of some realtors to 'enhance' the colors of their snaps. The grounds weren't quite this green. But you can see the property has lots of pretty trees. It's a tad overgrown and we plan on opening it up a bit for more sunshine. I never saw the house on a bright sunny day as it rained the times we toured it.
It's a little overgrown here by the front door and needs a good cleaning and chopping those old leggy rhodies down. But won't this be a fun porch to decorate! I couldn't do much on the porch of our previous house because the stuff would get stolen! :)
Look at those hostas! I love hostas and these are just so pretty and they really were that green. There's a mess on the sidewalk as the heavens had opened up and poured down the rain. You can see it's a pretty neighborhood with little hills. This house is on a little rise. Don't know if I'll be able to ride my bike on these little hills!
I'm showing you these next snaps so you can see what lies ahead of us.
How ya like them there blue walls, Mabel? :)
You can't see, but on the right side of this snap are double wall ovens and a little area in between the cabinets that has 'decorate me' all over it! :) I love the window and the window sill. Imagine all the cabinets and trim painted a bright white with soft buttery colored walls. There's no popcorn on the ceilings either! Yay! The big old black fridge is staying and the dishwasher is black as well as the ovens. I don't really like black appliances but the fridge is new and sooooooo nice and big and has the freezer on the bottom (I love that). I thought about painting the island black. What do you think? Is that too much black? Of course I love red but the countertops are Corian and as you can see the island top is BLUE! It might make it look like the 4th of July! The Corian is scratched up a bit but I've read you can resand it and bring it back to life. Hopefully, in time we can change the island top to granite or something. I'm going to need your help as y'all are just the smartest ones! :)
Mabel, there's a little bit of that blue paint left from when you painted the kitchen, so let's slap it on the walls in this here bedroom! It's so purdy! (I know, I know!) This bedroom will be Mr. Precious' office and it looks over the back yard. It's like a forest out there!
Trust me, there's lots of 'not too pretty' wallpaper from the 80s that will just have to go. So there it is.
The house has good bones and nice sized rooms and a full basement which I'm loving! You know, where I can put all of my dishes. The previous owners were really nice and left us some metal shelves in the basement and even some more in boxes that were never put together! Oh, and beautiful hardwood floors! I love that! The lot is a half acre  ~ so much bigger than what we had before.
The house was for sale for a while and here is a snap when it first went on the market with a little snow on the ground. You can see the house better here. Those little wooden thingys are called 'tree houses' to place over your plantings to protect them from the snow. The previous owners are leaving  them for us. I have so much to learn about this area.
Well, this is our house and I'm excited to get in there and put our touch on it. It's smaller than our previous home, This one is around 2600 square feet. It's a split entry with a small foyer. But the living room is so nice and big and runs the width of the house on the right side of the front door. The dining room is bigger than what we had before and has pretty wainscoting (it's the window on the left side of the front door). You saw the kitchen and it's is a lot bigger than my little tiny former one. It has four bedrooms but we'll actually just use two as bedrooms because I'll take the little bedroom overlooking the front of the house (the little middle window upstairs over the front door) for my sewing room and Mr. Precious will take the back bedroom for his office. But, we have a basement and I could set up a bedroom down there if I think I need too.

I won't be blogging for a bit so stay with me. As I said earlier, we'll leave with Kiki pulling a Uhaul trailer and I'll be following in my Jeep probably August 12th. I can't believe it! We've been packing, again, and have a few more things to pack up. We're keeping our little condo with enough stuff in it to be liveable if we want to come back if the snow gets too much for us.  I'm excited and a little bit scared too at the same time. What a whirlwind of a year we've had! But it's all been good and God has really shown us we are doing the right thing. Sometimes we don't see His hand moving in our situations but this time we really have!
Those babies are waiting for us and I can't wait.

I just want to thank you all right now who pop in to visit with me. I appreciate you all so much. You're such a part of my life and I would have never thought I would have still been blogging since 2008 and still going! You're the wind beneath my tiny wings and I love each one of you.

Okie dokie, time to take my vitamin and get to packing! :) See you a little bit down the road!

You are all a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Home

[Chorus:]
Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you
Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you

La la la la
Take me home
Mama, I'm coming home

  5. How lovely Shelia! So much character and potential. I love black appliances...way more than stainless steel which are so hard to keep clean! I've always heard that designers say there needs to be a little black in every room, so you're covered in the kitchen! Will be waiting for you when to return when things settle down a bit...so happy for you!
    Many blessings,
    Cindy

The best part of the house for me, has to be the window sill.

  15. Shelia, I'm excited for you that y'all will be near your grands and their parents!! Your home and grounds look wonderful. Can't wait to see what changes you make. It does get very cold in Upstate NY...my son and his family lived there. People there were wonderful to us and imagine this, they thought I talked funny. To which I said, "I don't have an accent, y'all do." And they fell out laughing. They were such fun! There are wonderful people everywhere! Best Wishes to you and Mr. Precious

  16. It is a lovely home and yard. The neighborhood looks very pretty. The hardwood floors are so nice and will be easy to maintain. You will enjoy putting your touch on the areas that need an update - that is the fun part and you can take your time doing it. I am so very happy for you! How great to be near the grandchildren. One day, they will be playing in your new yard and with toys in the basement!!!! Praying for safe travel and for all to go smoothly. God bless you sweet friend. Mildred

  17. Shelia,
LOVE the house and Welcome to the upper Northeast States!!! Get ready for cold temps. and lots of snow!! But I would not have it any other way!!
You could do blue, red and Yellow in the Kitchen and lots of florals and your roosters would look great with those colors!! Black metal or iron accents and the island painted black would also work... a Country Cottage thing.....

    Hugs,
    Deb

  18. Tree houses? Hmm. We have a different idea of those here in the south. How clever of them to keep the heavy snow away from flowers. I would have thought, "Hey, look at all these good wood scraps someone left for me to tear up and make into craft projects!"

    Begin the adventure with gusto!

  19. Me again!! I will be praying for your safe trip... Wait until you see the Fall changing of the leaves!!!! You will LOVE it!!!!

  24. It's a beautiful house and the inside will be as lovely as the out once you put your expert hand to it. Yes, I do love bright turquoise/aqua as much as the next person and maybe more, but yikes! I think I know where you may start!

But with your wonderful sense of style, you will have it looking like you in no time, and I, for one, will be eager to see the results -- in progress or not! Congratulations!

  29. Shelia, this new home is going to be wonderful once you get hold of it. I love the pretty setting! Good luck with the move and be safe. What fun to be so close to your grands!

  30. It does have great bones. A little bright on the blue, but paint can fix that. In my opinion, if you painted the island black, that would be a bit much. I'd try to lighten things up a bit with those black appliances. Nothing wrong with black. I'd just as soon have black as that cold stainless steel. It's a beautiful house and lot. I can't wait till you move in!

  31. Oh the future of this house is so awesome I am grinning from ear to ear.

Now see, if you do light walls and paint your cabs white the island can be black easily and I think would look great. But then I love black in every room. : - )

I would seriously re-think the blue Corian though. I know it may not be in the budget but well, it's blue, Mabel. LOL.

SO EXCITED for you. Huge hugs.

  32. Excited for you, but oh my you got alot of fixin' to do! You will make it totally yours.

You have some work ahead of you (maybe someone can be hired to do things like remove wallpaper and paint?) I bet your mind is spinning on what you're going to do! I wish you safe travels on the move- that's a big undertaking but I have to believe worth it in the end! You're going to get spoiled now seeing your grand kids so much more often! Hugs, Liz

  60. Congratulations Shelia! It's a lovely home and it will certainly become even more so with your finishing touches. Mind if I ask...what part of NY? I lived the for the first 60 years of my life in NY, then in April we retired and moved to Massachusetts. We were in Westchester, but your house looks like it could be a bit more north? We'll be renting an RV in a few weeks for the first time to see how we like it. If we do, we'll be buying one so I'll have lots of questions for you! ;).

All the best in your new home!!

I had white Corian countertops for years...and they can be resanded...or you can use a scrub pad and bleach. Test first. But I did this all of the time with my corian. I had it for 25+ years and it looked good when we moved out. Enjoy the journey! Sheila@MyKentuckyLiving
