Bedroom at the Little House

Hello, Dear Ones.
Well, today I'd like to show you the bedroom in The Little House.
For the life of me, I can not get a good snap where there is a bright window. Do any of you have any suggestions? Is there a certain time of day to get a good snap? AGH!!! So you'll have to just look at some 'not so good' snaps today. You'll still love me, right?
As I've said, we have two bedrooms here but we use the little front one for an office and then this is THE bedroom. We didn't know how we'd like going from our queen sized bed to a full, but it's just fine. This mattress is so nice and comfy and when Chloe Dawn lies down, she's out like a light!
See how yucky this snap is!! I hate to show you such bad snaps but I just couldn't get it right with this bright window!! I guess I need 'snap' lessons! Anyway, you can see the bedroom and again see how small it it. We've used our old Duncan Phyfe bedroom suit in here and it fits perfectly.

Here's the chest of drawers and I've poked up some of my ivies up there and sat them on a tray to make sure no water gets on the wood.
You know I always like a little cutesy so I've poked the funny little girl figurine up here. This little girl watering her piggy was given to me by Mr. Precious many years ago and he said he thought she looked like me! :) I love that. Well, I hope it didn't mean she was pretty fluffy like me! Naw! :)
Many  years ago, I had painted these bedroom walls with the leftover green paint from the living and dining rooms from our old 'sold' house. The paint was Olive # 2 or 3, I don't remember which number, from Lowe's. I still like this soothing color and decided to leave these walls green.
These walls were an opportunity to hang my Galveston Spring Historic Home Tour prints. We go on the tour each spring and it's just one of my most favorite treats of the year so I always buy a print. I have many more that have not been framed yet.
Okie dokie...not too pretty but here are the two closet doors that open to the huge walk-in closet. I've used the little wire clothes hanger on one of the doors to hang clothes that I want to air dry. It works.
This has become my dressing table. I have my combs and brushes in the top left hand drawer, curling iron in the middle left drawer. Can you believe the bottom left drawer is empty? :) The middle drawer holds my makeup and face things. The right side drawers hold my hair dillys - clips, pony tail holders and such. I need to find a pretty tray for right now I'm just using a little plastic one.
I have so many many quits but just brought a couple to hang on the quilt rack.
Here's a close up of some of the little prints. The same artist painted these for about 15 years or more  and then another artist took over. Each year they paint a front view of all of the houses on the tour. I just love these.
See the balloon shade on the window? Well, I made that for the Grandma bedroom in the 'sold' house about about 14 years or so ago. It's lined but is stationary. When we bought this little condo many years ago, I brought these window coverings over here and they stayed. Even our guy renter never said anything about them and I don't think he took them down either! :) Found that little pillow that matched. The bed linens are old too and I bought the little plaid/check patterned fabric to go with them. I don't change my bedspreads/comforters out like a lot of y'all do. Seems I get something that I like, I just keep it!
Here's a little close up of my dainty little fingers handiwork and a peep out of the window.

Well, I'm almost through showing you the little house and then do you think I can think of something to post? We'll see...if not I sure can talk a lot! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

In Dreams (love me some Roy, sniff sniff)

A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
"Go to sleep. Everything is all right."

I close my eyes, Then I drift away
Into the magic night. I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do.
Then I fall asleep to dream My dreams of you.

In dreams I walk with you. In dreams I talk to you.
In dreams you're mine. All of the time we're together
In dreams, In dreams.

But just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone.
I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry.
I remember that you said goodbye.

It's too bad that all these things, Can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams In beautiful dreams.

  2. What a darling space and I love your prints, those are fabulous. For the window issue meter the bed and use that for your settings on your camera or bounce light off the window for the rest of the room. Backlight is one of the hardest things to learn.

  7. Looks so cozy and cute. But then you always make the rooms look comforting. I believe that is how a home should be. You have worked hard to make this little home comfortable and inviting even though you are on the road most of the time. You are such a sweetie. Can't wait to see what is next. Hugs, Karie

  9. Oh Sheila, your new bedroom looks so warm and cozy. I think your pics are great...it is hard to photograph a wall with a bright light coming through the window. I was having the same issue this weekend when I was trying to snap a few pics of a new window treatment. I found that by using my flash (which I normally do NOT use), partially covered by my finger, the colors all showed up bright and clear but not overly exposed and artificial looking. I had waxed paper taped over my flash for a while but it had come off...so...the finger trick worked well! I love your sweet balloon shade and you did a fantastic job on it all of those years ago!

  10. Shelia,
Oh, dear friend, I am totally smitten with your chest of drawers and the desk!!!
I have no clue about your photo dilemna, but I think your bedroom is just charming!
"You'll still love me, right?". . .indeed, I do and I will!!!
Like you, when I find a bedspread I like I keep it!
My problem is that I've had my current one so~o~o long. . .it's getting thread barren.
I'm looking. . .but nothing yet worth changing towards!!!
Love the paint, our Master Bedroom is a Smoky Green, also. . .so~o~o soothing!!!
The Little House is taking shape, quite nicely!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  11. I think your pictures came out just fine Shelia! I know someone said on their blog, that when they had the magazine photographers there taking pictures, they said to close the shades. It sounds too simple and if you are taking a wide shot, I don't always think it is the most attractive look, but there you go. That's why I'm not a professional photographer! : ) Love your balloon valance! I have always loved this window treatment. I had a couple in our old house, too. They are in the attic now.

  12. I have no suggestions re taking photos, other than to keep trying at different times of day to see if that makes a difference perhaps. Anyhow, your bedroom looks lovely a really calming place to come back to after your travels and relax at the end of the day. You have fitted lots of furniture in and yet it doesn't look at all cramped or too "busy". You have made it so lovely that you will be sad to leave when the time comes! xx

  15. It is looking VERY good, Shelia! I, too, keep things I like and use them forever. LOL--shhhh----
I think the only thing I might have a problem with is going from a king bed and down to a double...could handle a queen but...good for you- I forget you are a "little thing". lol

Looks like you are doing great with your move so far. Do you miss the sold house? xo Diana

  16. I give you a star for being able to sleep in a double bed! You've set up the room quite nicely and the furniture seems to be sized just right for it. The window dressing you sewed was quite fancy and still looks wonderful. Good classic design never goes out of style! The pictures look great- all the little personalizing makes it a home!

  18. I love plaid and your curtains and spread are wonderful. Why in the world would you change such a cute set?? I don't change mine a lot either. I might add or subtract little things..change the pillow from time to time...but seldom even do that.
As far as picture taking...well..my post tonight shows everything that is white looking yellowish. I took the pictures tonight..in the garage,..with only a dim bulb showing a bit of light. Didn't use the flash either.
It's okay, sweetie, we all understand. I've been told that the morning hours are the truest time..with that fresh light. I don't know. I just snap away and never thing about it.
I thought you did good! Honest!! I really, really did!!

  27. Hi Shelia,

You've created another pretty room!! Your Galveston prints are really pretty; we bought two Charleston prints when we were there a few weeks ago. I'm still trying to decide where to hang them. :) Your balloon curtains are just lovely. My MIL made some for our previous house, and they were so pretty. This bedroom looks, cheerful, colorful, and cozy -- great job! Have a wonderful weekend.
