Redoing the Living Room in The Little House

Hello, Dear Ones!
Well, here we are in the living room at The Little House. This first snap is before the mustardy color was painted over and our renter was moving out.
Aww...so much better, don't you think? I love this new Biscuit color from Sherwin Williams. It's just creamy enough to look great against the white trim. After we had it painted (I'm awesome and all, but I just didn't have the strength to paint all of this!) we needed to tackle the sliding glass doors. I just hate those linear blinds! They are so ugly. I know! I know! They do the job but they sure ain't purdy!!! So I took them down.
So we had 'Mikey' our handyman put up these 2" blinds and I love them! But I just don't think a window is complete without some fabric. So I went to Wally World and found these tan colored drapes. They were really inexpensive - about $20 a pair - but they weren't wide enough for this 6' wide glass doors. So, being my most talented self :) I bought two pairs, took out the stiching on one side of each the panels, then matched em up and sewed two panels together and then I had wider drapes! Yay me! They had rod pockets to slide right onto a curtain rod but I just ignored those pockets and bought rings. As you can see I couldn't hang them any higher and the rings allowed the drapes to be just a tad longer. They're not lined and I thought about lining them but talked myself out of it. I think they look fine, do you?

I asked Mikey to build me a little shelf across this area!
I forgot to snap a 'head on' shot so I cropped this for you to see! I can poke all kinds of stuff up there but my stuff can't be too tall. I had all of my dogs from the dog house packed except this little couple.
Here's a peep looking over the railing of our teeny little patio. It was raining and the wind was blowing. The grounds are really lush and pretty. I'll show them to you later on.
Okay, we've moved in now! We have lots of furniture and had enough to furnish The Little House. These Lazy Boys have been lived in for about 10 years and were showing some wear. So when we do move to New York, we'll buy some more comfy chairs.
Here's looking back to the front door.
I took the antique bird prints that were going up the stair wall in our 'sold' house and hung them over the sofa. This leather sofa is really old, almost 40 years! It was in Mr. Precious' office for 10 years when we lived in Waco and he bought it from a guy who had had it almost 10 years and we've had it for 18 years while here in Galveston. It's the color of peanut butter too.
I did find some new pillows. I love the cute bird pillow but wish the pattern had been placed long ways. I know the throw is the wrong color but it's all I have at the moment.
Here's the fireplace wall, minus a mantel. I hung a shelf up there years ago for a pretend mantel but took it down before I painted the walls that mustardy color. I thought my pelicans would look great hanging out above the fireplace! There is a teeny little cardinal resting on the hearth. :) Do you see a theme developing?
We poked a lot of furniture in here! I brought Charlotte over to hold our smaller TV. What? You don't name some of your furniture pieces? :) We had a HUGE TV and got rid of it. There's a couple more bird pictures too.
Here we're looking into the dining room.
You may have noticed that you didn't see my piano! Yes, I'm crying here. There is just no room for it and it has gone to climatized storage. They have assured me they have had other pianos there and all will be well. So I'm keyless and I guess I'll get over it. This will be the first time since I was 11 years old I haven't had a piano with me. Feel sorry for me!
Okie dokie, Pokey! We're finished with the living room at The Little House for now. Stay tuned for more...same Bat time, same Bat channel! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

You Really Got A Hold On Me

I don't like you, but I love you
Seems that I'm always thinkin' of you
You treat me badly, I love you madly
You've really got a hold on me
(You really got a hold on me)
You really got a hold on me
(You really got a hold on me)

Baby, I don't want you, but I need you
Don't wanna kiss you, but I need to
You do me wrong now, my love is strong now
You've really got a hold on me
(You really got a hold on me)
You really got a hold on me
(You really got a hold on me)

Baby, I love you and all I want you to do
Is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hole me
Tighter, tighter

I wanna leave you, don't wanna stay here
Don't wanna spend another day here
I wanna split now, I can't quit now
You've really got a hold on me
(You really got a hold on me)
You really got a hold on me
(You really got a hold on me)

Baby, I love you and all I want you to do
Is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hole me
(Please, squeeze)

You really got a hold on me
(You really got a hold on me)
I said you really got a hold on me
(I said you really got a hold on me)
You know, you really got a hold on me
(You know, you really got a hold on me)
You know, you really got a hold on me
(You know, you really got a hold on me)

I said you really got a hold on me
(I said you really got a hold on me)
You know, you really got a hold on me
(You know, you really got a hold on me

  1. I love what you've done to your Little place...it looks wonderful. Yes, I caught onto your theme - you're going to the birds!! LOL!! That Biscuit color is very pretty, too. I really need to find a painter and get the rest of the house done. I'm tired of looking at unpainted walls. I keep telling myself that I'll do it...but, I don't/can't. Glad you're enjoying your new place, can't wait to see more!!

    Hugs,
    Jan ♥

  7. Oh Shelia, it is perfect for what you need now. You may find when you move to New York that you will not need as much space as you had in your home that you just sold. You have really fixed it up so cute. It really looks very comfortable.

  8. I think you should rename this The Honeymoon Cottage! It is just too cute. I was going to suggest you buy a keyboard you could put away in a closet, but someone already did. Maybe you could take up the guitar or flute? You may get so used to the ease of living in a smaller place that you will not want a huge house when you move to NY. Just get an extra room for the piano!

  13. You made lots of improvements and I like your bird theme. Will the piano go with you to New York?

  14. You are sure making your small space your very own, it is looking great.

My advice - and being a fellow piano player - that you should go buy yourself at least a keyboard. It's not the same but it is better than nothing. Seriously.

Try secondhand and pawn shops- really cheap. Also Craigslist and classified ads, peeps downsize and move or find they cannot play and sell them for half what the retail prices were.

    Hugs.

  16. Wow, you made the little house very cozy in a short amount of time!!! Love the new wall color, the drapes are nice without the lining because there are blinds for privacy, love the new shelf and all your decor!!! Is that the dining set from the former kitchen?? Honeymoon Cottage, now that is cute!!!

  29. Forgot to say -- your transformation is fabulous. Love the window treatment (I hate vertical blinds, too -- (looks like a 1980s dentist's office) -- and the colors, furniture, decor -- you nailed it. Very nice!

  30. Shelia,
The Little House is shaping up quite nicely, dear friend!!!
Love the "theme" that is evolving within its walls!!!
Adore the changes to the patio doors
and the shelf above the kitchen opening is a charming touch!!!
Your arranged area is very similar to the duplex we leased
upon our arrival to this side of the Prairie 13 years ago!!!
And, I truly could have been very happy to stay there. . .
but then I wouldn't have the luxury of space that I now enjoy!!!
    Keep those photos coming!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  32. What other sofa besides a leather one would last that long? And still look that good? I think you are looking right cozy and comfortable in The Little House;}

  33. Hi Shelia, You have created an amazing space and it looks gorgeous. Great wall color!! Love the shelf over the bar and all your accents are perfect. The birdie decor is lovely. Your sofa is gorgeous!! Leather sure stands the test of time and wears so nicely and never goes out of style. I have enjoyed ours for many years too. Love what you did to the window. Shelia you are so talented and turned your little house into a cozy and amazing home!!
    Have a nice weekend.
    XOXO

  34. That couch certainly doesn't look that old. It's in great shape. Small spaces are something to get use to. But once you do, you might decide you don't want as big a space as your house was.

  35. Hi Shelia, I have been keeping grandkids and out of town too. I am amazed at all you have done so quickly and blogged about it too. You have a great eye for decorating and a big heart for letting go of "things". I need to take a page out of your book. I am not ready to downsize yet but I need to purge "big time" and let some things go.
Your leather sofa looks fabulous and the pillows you choose are great.
Love your shelf above the pass through. Great idea.

  37. Your new, little house is so cozy! I knew you would make it something special. I'm so happy you can put it all together and make it yours and then hit the road. Wondering where your travels will take you to first. Can't wait to see more of your 'new' home!

  38. I love it all, Sweetie! I really do! You have done or are doing one heck of a job "downsizing." Howsomeever, I have to say this. If I had to sit on the floor..I would find room for my piano. That is the one thing, no two, that I cannot live without. No dishwasher, no more garbage disposal or trash compacter, but I must have my sewing machine and piano. Okay..and my Kindle Fire..but that's tiny. YOUR PIANO?? Yes..yes I do feel sorry for our girl!! No Sweetie should be without her piano!
It all looks just lovely. Cozy..warm and inviiting.
    Love,
    Mona

  40. Oh gosh Shelia, no ivories to tinkle -sniff- I appreciate this heartbreak as I gave mine up years and years ago but you dear girl will have your beloved piano back again - when the time is right! You and Mr Precious have other things to conquer at the moment!
The makeover in the condo is fabulous - but then again I didn't expect anything less! :)

  41. Oh Shelia, you are amazing. I am following every little thing you do. You have done a great job with the condo. I just couldn't believe you selling your gorgeous home. . but then I do understand. Change is good especially if it means you will eventually be closer to your grandbabies. I would do the same. And you will have such a great time traveling with you hubs in the little Kiki. Keep posting and showing all the great things you are doing. Hugs, Karie

  43. It is all coming together. I hate those shade control blinds, too. They clack with wind and/or movement and I never liked the way they looked (for myself). You are getting lots done and I know it will be an adjustment but, hopefully, it will be an easy one for you. Did you say that you are going to end up in NY? Where in NY-the city or upstate (if I am not being too personal)? I think that is where your "kiddos" are?

Blessings- it is fun seeing your "little house" come together- xo Diana
