What Cha Doing?

Hello, Dear Ones.

Like I said, what cha doing?

I've been as busy as a bee with life.
Just like so many of you.

I'm glowing with glitter again...

making Glitter House.
Oh, how I love making these little cardboard houses.
I'll show you when I'm finished.

I'm resting a tad and a sweetly scented candle is always calming.
Notice the scent ~ Lemon Pound Cake ~ works for me! :)

Well, my resting time has to stop ~ gotta fix Mr. Precious some dinner.
Oh...

Oh, I did make some peanut butter fudge.
Just sayin'.

The Candyman

Bill: Who can take a sunrise
Sprinkle it in dew
Cover it in chocolate
and a miracle or two?

The candyman

The candyman can
The candyman can cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

Who can take a rainbow

Wrap it is a sigh
Soak it in the sun
and make a strawberry lemon pie?

Children: The candyman?

Bill: The candyman

The candyman can
The candyman can cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

Willy Wonka makes

Everything he bakes
Satisfying and delicious
Talk about your childhood wishes
You can even eat the dishes

Who can take tomorrow

Dip it in a deam
Seperate the sorrow
And collect up all the cream?

The candyman

Children:Willy Wonka can

Bill: The candyman can cause he mixes it with love

And makes the world taste good
And the world tastes good cause the candyman thinks it should

One Thing Leads To Another

Hello, Dear Ones!
You all know the old saying "One Thing Leads To Another"?
Well, that's what seems to be going on in my den.

After painting the backs of my builtins green, I know you're tired of hearing about them, I thought it was time to rearrange the items in my TV cabinets.

Look at those wires!
I hate that and have meant to try and do something about them but as you can see - I haven't!
Now some of you have the most gorgeous TV cabinets and I drool every time I see them.
Well, these puppies are olden, olden, olden, like 1979 olden.
There are actually three cabinets in the set but when we got the BIG screen TV, the third cabinet had to go to another room.
So...I just poked in a sofa table, poked the TV on it and called it done!

Okay, enough sentiment!
I did cover some core board with fabric to place in the backs of the cabinets a few years ago and I think that helped to lighten them up a bit.
See, I was being green way back then! :)

This is the top shelf of the cabinet to the left of the TV.
I found that pretty platter at Ross the other day and just new I needed to have it.
Poked down a few books and a plant and this shelf was done!

On to the second shelf...more books and little balls (I know they're called orbs, but I call them balls)!
I printed out a snap I took a few years ago in Maine and framed it.
You can't make it out very well, but it's a picture of a tree with lovely fallen colors all around.

Now on the the other cabinet which has three open shelves.

Again, I framed another one of my fallen snaps that you can't see because of glare, books and greens...

and one little Rooster!
Love these little guys.

More books, a vase, some greens, little birdy votives and another dish I found at Ross.
Probably got too much green going on here.
It'll change, I'm sure!

I'll bet you're so glad I'm down to the last shelf?
This is the working shelf that holds the cable box.
More books.
You're probably wondering why I have a line up of books at the back of the shelf.
There's an opening there for the cords to go through and it's not pretty.
So...a line up of books did the trick! :)
Works for me!

Everything I Own

You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you
And I would give anything I own
And give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
You taught me how to love
What it's of, what it's of
You never said too much but still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go
And I would give anything I own
Would give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Is there someone you know?
You're loving them so
But taking them all for granted
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don't hear the words you long to say
And I would give anything I own
Will give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to touch you once again

Dishes! Dishes! Dishes!

Hello, Dear Ones!
Guess what I found?
Yep, more dishes.

First of all, seems here recently I've been showing you things I've bought.
I don't want you to think I'm all materialistic and stuff...I'm really not.
Mr. Precious is retired and I really try to be conservation with my spending.
So the things I buy when I'm out thrifting are really bargains or I would just pass them by.
Just wanted you to know I'm not all about stuff.
Just some stuff that can be found at great prices, um, cheap! :)

Okay, on with my bargain dishes.
I found a service for eight, Apple Valley by Pfaltzgraft, minus two coffee cups and one saucer.

The darling oval platter.
Look at the sweet little garden and cottage.
Little rabbits are peeping around the veggies.

Veggie bowl and the little gardener is rolling away his carrots while the little rabbits are waiting for him to drop a couple for their dinner! ;)

Eight little cereal bowls, eight dinner plates and eight dessert/salad plates covered in apples.

I adore this sweet pattern.
Look at the borders around the pieces.

Picking apples on the little cups and the saucers are all ruffly.

I did a little research on this pattern and it came out in either 1996 or 97 but was retired after only one year. I guess folks didn't like it too well and it didn't sell.
Don't know why they retire dishes.
I don't care. No, no Nannette, not one bit!
Now do you want to know my bargain price for this set?
$12
Clap clap for me and turn a couple of cartwheels!!
Woo hooness and everything.
I couldn't stand it so I went to Replacements.com and priced the pieces I brought home with me, added it up and guess what?
To buy these would cost me over $300!!!
Did I do good or what?
Yay, me!!
just sayin'

Octopus's Garden

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus's garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus's garden with me

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Restin' our head on the sea bed
In an octopus's garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
Because we know we can't be found

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
Lies beneath the ocean waves
Oh, what joy, for every girl and boy
Knowing we're happy and we're safe
Happy and we're safe

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden with you
In an octopus's garden with you
In an octopus's garden with you

Everything Old Is New Again

Hello, Dear Ones!

In honor of my olden Royal Sealy Heritage Blue Onion canisters I just had to set up my little breakfast hutch with them.

This is really a minimal display for me.
I'm a more is more kinda gal! :)

I'm still so much in love with these canisters.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to actually use them.
We'll see! :)

I poked some blue and white napkins in the little napkin holder and popped down some salt and peppers.

Don't you just love the cookie jar?
Alas, Mr. Precious has eaten every cookie in the house so it's absolutely empty.

Here's the second shelf.

I just had to show you again this handsome Rooster given to me by my sweet friend Jeanne from Backyard Neighbor.

Sitting center stage on the top shelf is the little tea pot!

More little Roosters.
These little Rooster salt and peppers came from
Susan at Between Naps on the Porch when she had a little Etsy shop.

For now my new/olden canister set will be here sitting in my little hutch.
Well, they'll be here for a day or two anyway! :)

Everything Old is New Again

Everything Old Is New Again
When trumpets were mellow
And every gal only had one fellow
No need to remember when
'Cause everything old is new again

Dancin' at church, Long Island jazzy parties

Waiter bring us some more Baccardi
We'll order now what they ordered then
'Cause everything old is new agian

Get out your white suit, your tap shoes and tails

Let's go backwards when forward fails
And movie stars you thought were alone then
Now are framed beside your bed

Don't throw the pa-ast away

You might need it some rainy day
Dreams can come true again
When everything old is new again

Get out your white suit, your tap shoes and tails

Put it on backwards when forward fails
Better leave Greta Garbo alone
Be a movie star on your own

And do-on't throw the past away

You might need it some other rainy day
Dreams can come true again
When everything old is new again
When everything old i-is new-ew a-again

I might fa-all in love wi-ith you again

August Mantel

Hello, Dear Ones.
Well, one thing leads to another, doesn't it?
I hesitated a bit even posting about my mantel as so many of you are already getting your Fall on.
But I decided I would because it won't stay this way long! :)
I'm still here in the den.
After painting the backs of my builtins green, I started to change things around and that meant my mantel needed a change too!

Not quite summer and not quite fall...yet!
I must tell you, I've been milking that white pitcher with hydrangeas in it since spring.
So here she sits again.

I popped down a sweet platter I love.

This little bird landed here and I just didn't have the heart to tell her get down.

A few faux hydrangeas poked down.
Makes me smile.

I tossed up this artichokey thingy to balance this side.

Now this is where I really show my talentedness! :)
I found those little butterfly lights months ago in a thrift shop for $2.00.
I had used them in a flower arrangement right here on my mantel.

I had to use them just once more before fall hit the scene.
So I grabbed my wreath with the shabby roses I made a few years ago and twirled my butterfly lights around it, plugged it in and now I'm  happy!

I poked up some books and added my star fish who is always on my mantel in one place or the other.

So there's my mantel for August.
I feel a little chill in the air reminding me that pumpkins will be popping up soon.
Until then I'll continue to milk all the pieces to my mantel I can.
