Venice!!

Hello, Dear Ones! I have come down with an upper respiratory infection and have been as sick as a dog! Been on meds and have had bad side effects! I've just been a mess. But I did want to share with you the final few days of our trip - Venice!

We flew from Houston to Venice and that is where we boarded our cruise ship. Mr. Precious and I decided before we left that after our cruise was over we would spend a few days in Venice since we had never been here before.

Oh, what a lovely olden place. Looks like a city floating on the water. Well, I guess it is! :)

Canals run all through the city. Here you can see everyone's little boats parked just waiting for them to take a ride.

Now we're Hilton folks. We love them and have stayed in them all over the world. Mr. Precious found this Hilton for us...right on the Grand Canal! As you can see, it's not your regular variety! :)

How fortunate for us ~ they had their own water taxi for us ~ free of charge to take us across the Grand Canal to other areas. This in itself was fun for me. Don't take too much to make this gal happy!

Little sites around the city! See that boat in the bottom left hand corner? Well...

this was the boat that took us to Murano to see the glass factory! I was like a little kid and kept poking my tiny head out the back window and snapping our journey! The water was so beautiful!

When we got to the glass factory, of course I had Reba and was just snapping away. The guide came up to me and said I wasn't allowed to snap pictures because everything was copyrighted. Oops! :) Those are gorgeous chandies, aren't they? Now don't go out and copycat these! :)

Here is where all the magnificent glass pieces are made. This family has been making Murano glass for years and years. This young man was demonstrating his technique on making a tiny glass horse. See the snap with the fire? Well, when the horse was finished he laid a little slip of paper on it and it went up in blazes it was so hot! Glad I didn't try to touch it! :)

This charming Italian lady used her charm and finesse trying to sell us some glass pieces. It worked and we fell for it! :)

These three beautiful pieces are on their tiny way to Galveston! Mr. Precious bought these for me. They are so delicate and beautiful! I will treasure them forever! I feel a tablescape coming on! :)

Here is a mosaic of St. Mark's Basilica, one of the most famous churches in Venice. They were doing some upkeep on it and there were canvas and cranes everywhere. There weren't many areas inside where I was allowed to snap. But I did what I could. Do you see me snapping for you in the bathroom of the basilica? Oh, what I do for you, Dear Ones! :)

Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade! Hide your face, so the world will never fine you...oh, I just can't help myself! I get carried away sometimes. :) Aren't they cute?

Shopping! One of the things we ladies do best! :) No, I didn't buy that mask but I know I would have looked just so gorgeous in it! Well, you wouldn't be seeing my most gorgeous face would you, so maybe I wouldn't look so gorgeous...hmmm...looks a bit heavy to hold anyway! You know I'm teasing. :)

I got such a kick out of walking around seeing all of the laundry hanging out of the windows. It made me very thankful for my dryer!

The gondolas! Don't you just think of these when you think of Venice? They were gorgeous too! So fancy. I didn't realize they were all fancied up like this! Now I know it's awful, but we did not ride in one! I guess the retirement mode has set in. Although I am certainly not of retirement age yet, just wanted you to know that. Mr. Precious robbed the cradle when he married me! :) There I go getting side tracked again. Well for about a 30 minute ride it cost over $100 and we just didn't do it. I would rather have spent the money on a little gift to hold in my most dainty fingers! :) I did! Just sayin'...

Hope you've enjoyed seeing our Venice trip. We walked and walked and then had to walk back ~ my tiny knees almost fell off! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

  5. Ahhhhhh, Venice!! Did you get to St. Marks early enough to witness the feeding of the pidgeons??? When I was there, they spread the bird seed out in a pattern and when the clock strikes the hour, then the birds swoop down to feed and then you can see the pattern....they spelled out Coke a Cola, very neat!!!

  9. Oh you've filled my eyes with more gorgeous scenery! It looks like a very romantic magical city. I don't blame you for not wanting to spend so much on a 30 min boat ride. That probably doesn't even include the tip! Your glass objects are very pretty. I bet you can't wait to receive them. Hope you start feeling better soon. You probably got run down from your trip. That has happened to me before.

  18. Shelia...what a trip!!! I would have come back penniless because I would have wanted everything in the Murano glass factory. That's where there first made those fab Venetian Glass mirrors, right? And you got to see it in person!!! Awesome! I'm so glad you sneaked (snuck?) a pic or two before they caught ya. They don't want you giving away their trade secrets. ;) Welcome back!

  29. Hi Sheila, What a wonderful trip! I was blogstocking the other day when I saw your other pics...they were wonderful. I was looking forward to seeing Venice! I have actually been there before. It was on a 9th grade art trip, so it's been a while! I do remember it well though...all those good looking italian guys! Opps! I was supposed to be looking at the scenery! lol...I guess I should bave paid more attention, but I do remember the gondolas and neat old buildings. It was a fun trip! Actually, I did meat a boy there named Dominico, we wrote back and forth for a few years...I still have his letters in italian and wonder what in the world they say! lol...I did try to translate them, but I think I finally gave up and just quit writing! Ha! Your trip brought back some memories...I don't think I could have paid $100 to ride in a gondola either.

Thanks for your nice compliment on my spooky wreath! I will definitely do a tutorial on adding the mesh ribbon to trees. If you looked back through my Christmas posts, there might be one, not sure. Have a great Saturday! Kristen
