Indoor Picnic

Oh, Dear Ones! I've lost my followers!! I've heard from some of you that you've lost yours too!
Well, as bad as I hate that ~ I'm glad it wasn't my blog!!

Hello, Dear Ones! I'd like to share with you today an indoor picnic our women's ministry recently had at our church.

First I'll tell you a little story and you know how I love to tell you little stories. Our women's ministry at my little church has been on hold for a few years since Hurricane Ike hit our little island. We lost many members and we have been busy just getting the church up and running again. This ministry has laid heavily on my tiny heart that we should get it up and going again. So I gathered our little bunch of women together, we met, elected officers, decided the ministries and projects we would take on and guess what? I was elected the leader! Can you believe it? Me in all of my silliness! Well, I don't like to preach on my blog but I am totally sold out to Jesus Christ and believe we women can make a difference in our churches and in our communities. We're doing the ministry and outreach during the week and once a month we have a fellowship luncheon. So...

I get to decorate!! WooHooness! So I decided we would have an indoor picnic. I took some of my vintage tablecloths and faux flowers and fruits and went to town. Above is the centerpiece I put together for our food table. I took all of the snaps before the gals got there, so we're minus the food, as everyone pitches in and brings the goodies.

A few closeups of the centerpiece. That ole picnic basket has been in my home for over 20 years and I believe it was last year, I got inspired by Our Dear BJ at Sweet Nothings by a turquoise picnic basket she had. Well, that's all I needed. I got out my spray paint and went to town. I love it this color!

Since we're a small group, I set up three round tables and flung on my vintage tablecloths and of course each table had to have a centerpiece of its own. Found three of those little baskets at the dollar store, tossed in a simple tea towel to hang over the side, poked in a piece of faux fruit and some plastic utensils rolled up in a napkin tied with a ribbon. I threw in some wooden spoons too.

Inside of each basket I put a little jar filled with my fauxs!
Oh, I took some green paper, ran it through the shredder and took it out!
I had some faux green grass to poke down into each jar.
I'm so clever like this! Can you believe it! :)

Can you see the little jars?

Here's a little close up! I used little relish jars and washed them carefully to keep the label on them. I just loved this look and thought it would work great with the indoor picnic! I washed a little too good on my smallest jar and washed off the label. Oops! :)

Here's a closeup of the four tablecloths I used. I was feeling a little like Our Dear Candy at The Little Round Table - if you haven't been to her blog, you must go! She has the most vintage tablecloths of anyone in the world and the Fiesta Ware dishes to go with them. I know I only stand in her shadow, but hey...maybe some of her tablescaping shadowness will rub off on me! :)
I sat the tables with brightly colored plastic plates I found at Walmart and we'll use these again.

Gotta love ole Walmart!
I found this darling turquoise tub for under $5
and it just happens to match
my spray painted turquoise picnic basket.

Popped in some ice, cokes and diet cokes and what a pretty sight.
Is your tiny mouth beginning to water?
Gotta love The Real Thing - and I do - but my favorite is Cherry Diet Dr. Pepper!
Not as many folks like Dr. Pepper like I do.
Something must be wrong with them! :)
I will be in prayer for their taste tiny buds! :)

While I was cruising the aisles of Walmart looking for indoor picnic supplies,
my most gorgeous peepers spied these little canning jars!
Glasses!
Just perfect for our drinks!

Aren't they the cutest little things?
I poked in some straws and they were all set to be filled with sodas
or
Peach tea!
Now I love me some peach tea and drink it every day!
Or course along with my drinking of my cherry diet doctor pepper
I keep the bathroom pretty busy! :) Did I just say that?

Sorry this snap is a bit blurry.
I think I was just getting so excited and was wiggling!
I also found at Walmart this precious polka dotted drink dispenser.
You can't see the dots too well, but they are purple and turquoise.
The lid and spout (I don't know what you call this little thingy)
are turquiose just like my little tub and picnic basket!
I love this!!

Now I always like to have a few door prizes for the ladies
and we drew for two pretty journals and a box of note cards.

But just for fun, and because I'm such a silly,
I poked in the little baskets on each table, a jar of mustard and mayonaise.
You know the gals were more excited about winning the condiments
as they were the beautifully wrapped treasures.
What can I say! :)

We all had a wonderful time and I can be serious at times,
but I believe making our luncheons fun and festive is a great way to
keep the girls coming back and hopefully bring a friend or two.
And hey, since I am such a silly, they never know what to expect.
They know me and seem to love me anyway! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Shout To The Lord

My Jesus, my Saviour
Lord there is none like You
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love

My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord
All the Earth, let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name

I sing for joy at the work
Of Your hands
Forever I'll love You
Forever I'll stand
Nothing compares
To the promise I have
In You
~ sung by Darlene Zschech

  3. Shelia, I LOVE this! An indoor picnic sometimes is more fun than outdoors, especially with the weather we are having here. (Not complaining, and sending prayers to the folks in Joplin, MO). Your centerpieces are adorable and I would have wanted to win one of them, too! xo,

  6. Hi Shelia, Congrats on getting the women's ministry active again. I love the lyrics to the song at the end of your post. I believe these women will be blessed by your love of the Lord and your creative and fun luncheons and community support projects. Thanks for sharing all the darling projects with us.
My sis sub teaches and is so sad that they keep God out of the public schools these days. She recently told of a little girl, who sang a joyful song of praise to the Lord upon going out on the playground. The school CANNOT keep God out of her heart!

  40. This picnic of yours was a perfect blend of casual and fun, Shelia. I've used Mason jars as drinking glasses before- I first saw them used in a little bitty restaurant many moons ago and thought they were so quaint. I promptly bought a box at the grocery store and still have them- 30+ years later! Re: Dr. Pepper- I grew up in New Mexico and we always drank either Coke or DP. Of course, you'd go into a place and say you wanted a Coke and they
would ask, "what kind?" LOL I haven't tried the flavored DP yet. I am a purist! *grin*

I appreciate them and you more than you know. Prayers for healing are very much coveted. Thanking you in advance...
