Let's Have A Little Lunch!

Hello, Dear Ones! We have so many wonderful little historic places here on the island and I thought I would take you to one of my favorites for lunch today!

This is the Star Drug Store in the olden downtown section of Galveston.

Very olden...the land where this building sits was bought in 1886 and two buildings were built here. The Levy Building and the Star Drug Store. Just so you'll know, one of Galveston's most renowned architects was hired to design the building ~ Nicholas Clayton. We have so many old historic homes which he also designed.

Before we go inside, let's peak into the display windows. Here you'll see many olden bottles from the days of yore that were to keep you well and feeling young!

Oh, my goodness! :)

Now this is what I love to see ~ an olden milkshake mixer! If I'd lived in 1886, I would have been all over this puppy! I love milkshakes! :)

The olden cash register to ring up your purchases. Now, let's go inside...

Isn't this wonderful? In 1917, the Star was fully operational and had a horseshoe shaped tiled soda fountain counter that was added to the pharmacy.

In the 1920s, the Star changed hands and continued to operate until 1982. The integrity of the drug store was kept and it also altered history ~ the Star became the first desegregated lunch counter in Galveston!

There's lots of olden memorabilia here. Look up to the second story landing! Notice all of the stars embedded in the counter and all around the building.

Now I must tell you, the food here is excellent! Mr. Precious and I have sat at this lunch counter and eaten beef stew many times. Then in 1998 there was a terrible fire here and the Star was closed due to the damage. :(

The Star was sold again and the restoration began. It took the present owners five years to complete the renovations to the building. There are even two loft apartments upstairs. Isn't this safe a beautiful thing?

Sorry for the blurry picture. I believe I was a little overwhelmed when I took this photo. You see, I'm not quite five feet tall and there was 6 feet of water that filled this store during Hurricane Ike! This is the marker at the back of the Star.

Well, that's the tour, Dear Ones. Please pull up a chair or would you rather sit at the counter? Let's order...I'll have the Curried Chicken Salad, what'll you have?

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston,
I still hear your sea winds blowin'

I still see her dark eyes glowin'
She was 21 when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston,
I still hear your sea waves crashing

While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun and dream of Galveston

I still see her standing by the water
Standing there lookin' out to sea
And is she waiting there for me?
On the beach where we used to run

Galveston, oh Galveston,
I am so afraid of dying

Before I dry the tears she's crying
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun
At Galveston, at Galveston

Helloooo, Dear Ones! I've missed you so much. Did you figure out I was away? Yep, we took a little trip to Alaska...

Had a marvelous time and I'll share a little of that with you a little later on.

But before we sailed...

Grandma time!

We got to be with our little darling grand baby girl - Carter! She was so happy to see her Grandma - just look at that little face! I love this stuff!

We just ate her up with a spoon for a couple of days, then we sailed away. But guess what?

This little angel and our daughter are coming to Texas tomorrow to stay a week with us! We're so very excited! So bear with me because you know I'll be spending my time with my two gals.

Now I want to thank all of you who have come to see me and for your comments. I am going to read every one! I'll be popping in and out through this week and will start back to regular blogging next week. I love you and feel like I've been away from you for ever. You really have become my family!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

When I Fall In Love

When I fall in love
It will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love

In a restless world
Like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many
Moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun

When I give my heart
I give it completely
Or I'll never give my heart

And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you

This and That

Hello, Dear Ones. Today I thought I would just have a little random post. Hope that's okay with you all! :)

My sweet friend Sally at Salmugundi asked to see this plate I have handing on the wall. I have two on either side of my highboy in the dining room. I got these plates about three years ago at either Ross or Marshalls. I do love these plates being all toile and all! On the back they say - Toile! That was a smart thing to do, wasn't it? :) So this is for you, Sally!

Here's another little cuteness of plate hanging on the wall in the dining room. I have four of these two hanging on either side of my china cabinet. My Dear Daughter gave me these years ago. I love those little swirlies on the corners.

Then I have this cute 'forks' picture...

and this cute 'spoons' picture. I found these at Kirklands. Very appropriate for a dining room, don't you think? Let's eat! Well, I don't have anything cooked for you at the moment. :)

Then this olden vintage picture which is so hard to get a snap! I found this at a garage sale a few years back for $20. I love it. It speaks to me. Wonder if these flowers are faux! :)

Then to top off my randomness, I'll show you a little tassel that has found it's tiny way to the china cabinet for now.

Well, hope you're all doing well and I just love it when you pop in to see me.

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

I'm Easy

It's not my way to love you just when no one's looking
It's not my way to take your hand if I'm not sure
It's not my way to let you see what's going on inside of me
When it's a love you won't be needing, you're not free

Please stop pulling at my sleeve if you're just playing
If you won't take the things you make me want to give
I never cared too much for games and this one's driving me insane
You're not half as free to wander as you claim
But I'm easy
Yeah I'm easy
Give the word and I'll play your game
So that's how it ought to be
Because I'm easy

Don't lead me on if there's nowhere for you to take me
If loving you would have to be a sometime thing
I can't put bars on my insides
My love is something I can't hide
It still hurts when I recall the times I've cried
I'm easy
Yeah I'm easy
Take my hand and pull me down
I won't put up any fight
Because I'm easy

Don't do me favors, let me watch you from a distance
'Cause when you're near, I find it hard to keep my head
And when your eyes throw light at mine
It's enough to change my mind
Make me leave my cautious words and ways behind
That's why I'm easy
Yeah, I'm easy
Say you want me, I'll come running
Without taking time to think
Because I'm easy
Yeah, I'm easy
Take my hand and pull me down
I won't put up any fight
Because I'm easy
Yeah, I'm easy
Give the word, I'll play your game
So that's how it ought to be
Because I'm easy

Cloche Partying with Marty!

Hello, Dear Ones and welcome to another Cloche Party with Our Dear Marty at A Stroll Thru Life. Thank you Marty for hosting this fun party! Now on with the cloches...

This is one of my favorite cloche set ups! Now Our Dear Marty did a beautiful cloche display a while back and this inspired me!! I did show this during our last cloche party, but since I love it, I'm showing it to you again! :)

One more tiny peep! :)

I must confess, this glassy vasey filled with shells has been on my coffee table in the living room since that party too!!

This one too! :) Oh, my so bad! But I just love these little birds and just haven't changed them.

Same ole, same ole. I hope Marty won't throw me out of the Cloche Party!

But just look at these cute little birds. I just couldn't stand to put them away. Could you?

Okay, now I'm legal ~ this is a new display! I love this wire cloche and it's sitting here in the kitchen and the vanilla scented candle is filling the room with wonderfulness of smell! ummm! Notice my tiny little Roosters ~ it's the kitchen and I just can't help myself! :)

Look at the top of the cloche! This little bird is so cute perched up there.

I tied a green checked ribbon around my candle and then sat the candle among roses (faux, of course) and some moss from my sweet friend, Gloria! Thank you, Gloria, I use this all of the time!

A little breakfastness of cloche, Roosters and eggs!!

Now I'll bring you into my dining room and show you my olden buffet filled with clochesness and Lenox! :)

Here I have a little Lenox honey pot (the tiny little bee on top is missing his wings so I got this for a steal) sitting on top of a little Lenox bowl.

Then I have the vase that goes with these dishes all cloched up!! It's sometimes hard to get a good photo of cloches, right?

A couple of cups sweet cloched up! :) I love that term, don't you? Cloched up! :)

Now come on into the den and I have a little beachiness of a cloche display! Three little cupcake cloches...

filled with shells and a vintage postcard of summerness and shells...

then more shells, a shell postcard all sitting on a little laciness. Had to poke in a tiny doily.

The tiniest of cloches with one shell sitting on the most tiny doily topped off with a little tag!

A little tag ~ a little wire bucket filled with shells! Perfect!

Make sure you pop over to see Our Dear Marty and your tiny most gorgeous peepers will be filled with clocheness of wonder! I love this stuff!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

Beach Baby

Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh
Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh

Do you remember back in old l.a.
When everybody drove a chevrolet
What ever happenned to the boy next door
The sun tanned crew cut all american male
Remember dancing at the high school hop
With everybody drinking soda pop
I didn’t recognize the girl next door
With beat up sneakers and a pony tail

Beach baby beach baby give me your hand
Give me something than I can remember
Just like before we can walk by the shore in the moonlight
Beach baby beach baby there on the sand
Come to lie till the end of september
Surfing is fun we’ll be out in the sun everyday
Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh
Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh

We couldn’t wait for graduation day
We took the car and drove to san jose
That’s were you told me that you were my friend
I guess you don’t remember anything

Beach baby beach baby give me your hand
Give me something than I can remember
Just like before we can walk by the shore in the moonlight
Beach baby beach baby there on the sand
Come to lie till the end of september
Surfing is fun we’ll be out in the sun everyday
Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh
Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh

I never thought that it would end - when I was everybody’s friend
Long hot days - cool sea haze
Juke bow plays - but now it’s fading away

Beach baby beach baby give me your hand
Give me something than I can remember
Just like before we can walk by the shore in the moonlight
Beach baby beach baby there on the sand
Come to lie till the end of september
Surfing is fun we’ll be out in the sun everyday
Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh
Beach baby, beach baby, beach baby, beach baby oh oh oh

Beachy Cabinet

Hello Dear Ones! Hope you've all had a lovely week. Well, it's too hot to play outside so I've had to entertain myself indoors with the AC pumped down! I'm managing, thank you! :)

Since I was picnicking in my last post, I got to thinking...my favorite little play toy (my tiny little hutch in my breakfast room) needed a redo! I just love this stuff!

This is how my play toy has looked for a month or so - filled with Blue Willow dishes. Not a bad look but being filled with so much blue, I was beginning to feel blue. Can't have that! So what's a Most Gorgeous Talented Creative One like me to do? Play! Please know I'm kidding, I just get carried away sometimes. :)

So I put away all of my Blue Willow, dusted the shelves and poked in all kinds of beachiness of things! Oh, I felt cooler immediately! Feel the breeze? :)

Blue Willowness on the left ~ Beachiness on the right. Which do you like the best?

Okay, let's explore all the beachy items...

Now if you know me, you know I love my fish jugs. Actually they're called Gurgling Cod Jugs, but fish jugs works just fine for me! See these white ones on the top shelf! Well, these little puppies were not white in the beginning. These were the ugliest fish jugs you could ever hope to see or not to see. So I painted them white, yes I did! If you'd like to see them before they became so pretty just click HERE!

Second shelf ~ blue fish jugs. Aren't they darling?

Don't it make my brown jugs bluuuuuuuuuuue... that's a song, isn't it? :)

Mixed among my fish jugs are some little beachiness of plates with sea horses and little retro looking plates. I threw in some beach balls. Porcelain beach balls ~ so don't try to bounce them on the floor or we'll all be sorry! :)

Bottom shelf ~ more fish jugs! I love this stuff. You may recognize one of these as I used one to sit on top of my picnic basket in my previous post! Love these too.

Oh, I forgot to tell you, my little fish jugs sing too! Here them!! I've poked down a couple of shell votive candle holders, after all this is the beach! :)

I poked a porcelain beach ball upon an little pedestal, added a starfish and some sea weed, well actually it's some moss from my sweet friend, Gloria. She sent me some as it grows all over her trees in northern California! But for today it's pretending to be sea weed. ;)

Tiny little beachiness of plates sitting on a very olden blue and white napkin. Just pretend you're seeing the blue sea and the white caps of the waves that are pounding the shore!

Well, Dear Ones, there you have it! My favorite play toy filled with the coolness of the sea! I'm so rested and calm now so I do believe I'll just pour me a cool glass of Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper and pop my most dainty tiny feet up! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Surfer Girl

Little surfer little one
Made my heart come all undone
Do you love me, do you surfer girl
Surfer girl my little surfer girl

I have watched you on the shore
Standing by the oceans roar
Do you love me do you surfer girl
Surfer girl surfer girl

We could ride the surf together
While our love would grow
In my woody I would take you everywhere I go
So I say from me to you
I will make your dreams come true
Do you love me do you surfer girl
Surfer girl my little surfer girl
Well
Girl surfer girl my little surfer girl
Well
Girl surfer girl my little surfer girl
Well
