My Newness of Kitchen!

Hello, Dear Ones! I have more to share with your today about my kitchen. First I want to take you all the way back to 1997 when we bought our 1970s home. The kitchen was painted all a light cream and it was boring...I took a picture of a picture so it's not very clear.

I stenciled a little border up at the top of the room. I used to love to stencil.

If you visit me often you know I posted a few weeks back about painting my little kitchen from red to soft yellow. You can read about it HERE if you'd like or you can look at my sidebar and click on Kitchen.

I've been enjoying the change very much. But there's been some more changes! Woo Hooness! I'm so excited because now I have new countertops, backsplash and under counter lights! :)

Ta dah!! Do you love it? Oh, I love it to pieces! Did I tell you I'm excited? :)

It takes some nasty to make some pretty! Do you see the bottom left hand photo? The cabinets used to be that yucky green color. Now I never got to experience the avocadoness of this color - hallelujah!! :)

Newly laid boards for the countertops and purple sheet-rock! The color purple! :)

Yay! I'm loving this so much. Do you like it? Have I asked you before? :) The granite is called Giallo Ornamental and the backsplash is beadboard! Here the beadboard is installed before it was painted. It comes in white and looked pretty good I thought.

Woo Hooness! I've said that too, haven't I? I love this stuff!

I'm going to share one of my dirty little secrets with you because I love and trust you! :) See that big ole hole? Well, in 1997 there was a huge old ugly nonworking Jenne Air grill here. Also had a Jenne Air cooktop with only two burners working. So we did get a new cooktop and had the installers take out the grill leaving me this nice square hole. So I went out and found a big Boos Block cutting board to cover up the hole and it's been there ever since! :)

But now ~ no more hole! I love it! I'll keep my Boos Block for when I want to chop chop chop! :)

Here's a close up of the countertops.

Here's a look at the beadboard all painted out in pretty soft yellow like my walls. Mr. Precious did not want beadboard. He wanted tile like most folks have. I didn't so I begged and pleaded and cried and guess what? I got my way! :) Works every time!! :) I'm so good!

Okay, here's the kitchen window now. Do you love it? I do!!

I got a new Moen faucet with many charms. I'm in love with my new faucet too! Can you love a new faucet with many charms? Well, you bet your tiny dripping hands you can! :) You know I'm a silly! ;)

Isn't my new faucet so very sleek and pretty? I've just been captured by her charms.

Smile honey, here's your closeup!

Her lovely little head pops almost off and her neck stretches out and with the poke of a button you can spray the water or you can just let it flow. Faucet love, yes siree Bob! :)

New window sill all prettied up and level unlike my Formica before!!

Got a new undermount sink and thought I had better keep my little red sink mats to protect it from scratches as long as I could! :) I still love red!

Nice deep corners to play on! :) If you know me, you know I love stuff! Lots of stuff! And I like to poke it around all over the place! :)

I previously shared with you that I painted my little peninsula this soft sweet green. There is really a lot of room under these cabinets so I keep my pots and pans in there.

Mr. Precious came up with the idea of poking the microwave under here and I'm loving it! With the microwave under here I have more room to poke stuff on my countertops! :)
Yes, I know, you're seeing tea towels placed between my frying pans. I do that so they don't get scratched! I'm so creative you know! :)

Thought I would show you that I have these very nice drawers under my cabinets and it's so much easier for me to get to things instead of getting down on my tiny olden knees and searching for things. I'd have a hard time getting up anyway! :)

Decorations! I just love to play! :)

See where the breadbox is? Well, that is where my red box of a microwave was. The breadbox was in the corner and now it's freed up so much more space and I can play in the corners now! :) I'm still loving this stuff!

I hope you've enjoyed seeing a little transformation in my tiny little kitchen! I'm in love with her, are you surprised? I may just bring my pillow down here tonight and climb up (with help, of course) and sleep on my countertops! Nah!

I'm joining our Dear Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday,

Be a bunch of sweeties,

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

  1. Oh Sheila Sweetie...
What a beautiful share today. I LOVE your new kitchen. It is absolutely fabulous. The countertops are so pretty.

Now your Moen faucet, I have had mine for a year now, and two times the piece that you pull down, the piece on the end has worn out from use I guess? Well anyway, don't go out and buy another one, notify the company and they will replace it for free.
It starts to leak really bad when it wears out, you'll know believe me. They really stand behind their products though. I love having that pull down, some of my heavier pots I don't have to balance to fill with water, I just pull the hose down and fill er up. Love it.

I love your valance too, and the lights under your cabinets is on my next list of things to do. It is amazing what that extra little bit of light makes.

Thank you for sharing sweetie. I have so enjoyed my visit today, and you and DH made a beautiful kitchen even more beautiful.

Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  3. It is beautiful! Love all the changes you made. I had the hardest time picking the granite last year when I did mine. And I picked the same one you have . I did subway tiles for the backsplash , I cook a lot so I would be ruining anything painted. That is what I had previous to the subway tile.
I splurged for the racks for the sick that the company makes, and I am glad I did. I like that it makes the sink a little less deep, better for my back.
You did a great job! Enjoy it!
Can't wait to see all the cooking you do in your new spotless kitchen!

  4. Congratulations on your beautiful new kitchen (it is new you know)...Those countertops are wonderful and so shiny!!! My advice...don't cook or wash dishes!!! All that cookin and washin will just mess up the pretty "newness"!!! I'm sure Mr. Precious will completely understand !!!
Now I'm off to my old formica countertops to cook supper and sob a little!!!

  6. Oh Shelia, isn't granite the most wonderful stuff in the whole world. I only have the island in granite, but I do adore it. Your new counters are just exquisite. Love the color. Your kitchen is perfect and you do have room for some great displays. Great for you. Enjoy. Hugs, Marty

  9. I love everything you did in the kitchen. It is gorgeous. I so want a new faucet like that...I am hoping to make enough from a garage sale to get one! And I have the same sink mats only in black. don't you love them!!

  10. I am so glad that I got to see your kitchen finale!!! It looks fabulous. I have seen those faucets advertized and I see that you really like it....we couldn't use one of those unless we installed a water filter elsewhere. Right now ours is on our faucet....not the best looking thing , but we use it constantly especially because I hate the taste of chlorine.

Your counters are so pretty--it does transform your kitchen!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sheila, great minds think alike or have the same taste. I have that same granite in my kitchen. Love it. We got ours around five years ago. You will enjoy that. You can set hot pans right on it and it won't hurt a thing. Love your kitchen.

  21. Looks awesome! Nice transformation. I like how you have the counter top as the backsplash instead of beadboard across. I made the mistake of not doing that and my wainscoating looks a little worse for the wear because of water, oh well, gives me a new project at some point. enjoyed your makeover.

  22. Yes, I do love it!! So pretty! Of course I love the yellow! Great countertops, and the beadboard! So glad you did beadboard instead of tile!

I remember when I had my counters done and under cabinet lighting put in...I actually wanted to cook for once! LOL I know you must be smiling from ear to ear each time you go into you new kitchen. It turned out beautifully! Don't you just adore the under cabinet lighting! That's pretty much all I use now...it's so soft to work by that I never use my overhead. How does Mr. Precious like it? 40. Oh Shelia, I'm loving your updated kitchen! I know you must be over-the-moon excited.

The bead board backsplash looks wonderful. I'm not a tile person either and I'm leaning very heavily on using the bead board-looking wallpaper for the backsplash in my new kitchen redo that's about to take place. I haven't picked out my faucet yet so I may have to check out that LOVELY faucet you have there. I'm also having some pull out drawers put in so I don't have to get down on my (not so tiny) olden knees to hunt for stuff. hehe

    Enjoy your new beautiful kitchen!

  41. Its all so beautiful Shelia, Love every bit of it. I do think the red microwave would make a pretty red statment on those lovely counter tops though. It would be a very nice look with all the other red gone. I adore a big splash of red.

(And I DO love your faucet too, by the way.) Wow, you have so many things that I love, I wish I had enough room here to comment on each item! Beautiful, Sheila, congrats on your new kitchen.

  81. also I noticed your paper towel holder, I found an under cabinet mounted one that I just love, and it's so much easier to use than a countertop type. Ballard Designs website, different finishes and endcaps, mine is the black iron finish with fleur di lis end caps. A bit fussy to put a new roll in but oh so pretty with a sunflower print paper.
