and our Dear Cielo at The House in the Roses for Show Off Your Cottage Monday.
Hi Dear Ones! I'm still messing with doors! Yes, I am! Mr. Precious and I have been working in the kitchen and repainting our cabinets. I'll have to show you all of it a bit later because we're still working on it. But I can show you this area today - the little desk area in the breakfast room.
I'm joining Cindy today at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday
and Coreyann at Housewife Bliss Fabulous Nest Friday
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I'll leave you with a little Note Song~ this song has nothing to do with my post, it just popped into my most tiny mind and I wanted you to sing it...
Tennessee Waltz
I was dancin' with my darlin' to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced her to my loved one
And while they were dancin'
My friend stole my sweetheart from me.
I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my little darlin' the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz.
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz

What a great area to work or talk on the phone or just sit and putter around. You did a great job on the curtains and hid your stuff to boot. Love the polka dots!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job! I like the little curtain to hide the light, I think it's cute-enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOMG Sheila,
ReplyDeleteYou are just the funnest lady!
In all their neckness! Love that, i want to learn to talk Texan.
Anyhoo, I love your newly painted white cupboards and desk. Looks so loverly! (that's lovely in Wisconsin) hehe.
And I love the curtain idea too!
Can't wait to see the big reveal!
Happy 4th,
Cindy
I just absolutely LOVE your new *look*!!! The yellow is just the shade I have been toying with...
ReplyDeleteI adore the chicken wire, the fabric behind it and the cute as can be valance!
You have a gift for making things pretty and homey and wonderful!
Happy 4th sweet, sweet lady!
Love,
Sue
That is the cutest little nook...it would be fun to spend some time there, seems very peaceful. I had to laugh about your husband, mine is like that too. Have a great 4th Shelia :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheerful work space. I'd love to spend time here! Love that sweet green tea service! ~ Sarah
ReplyDelete~Happy 4th of July! ~
White cabinets are my very favorite of all time!!
ReplyDeleteNow, I was going to suggest glass doors but if you don't like folks lookin' in..you wouldn't like glass, either. The fabric looks really cute. I love your little nookie..I mean nook !!! Good grief!!:))))) ;)) :))) :-) ;>)
Darling, darling, DARLING, sugar!!!! I. Love. It. It's that simple.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Connie
:-)
Perfect!! I know how you feel - I can't replace that wonderful red fabric in my kitchen either, but your yellow dots are the perfect compliment. Enjoy the weekend. Sally
ReplyDeleteOh I love your cabinet curtains -- your little desk looks a sweet as can be!
ReplyDeleteSheila, I love your desk area. It looks good with the little curtain. I figured it was because the light was too bright. I like the fabric you added to the doors. Same way I added it to my red hutch to hide the mess behind the doors. I stapled my fabric too. My desk area really needs to be cleaned up. That is my next project on the house. Have a wonderful weekend and fourth.
ReplyDeleteShelia, that looks fantastic. It's so bright, clean, and cherry. I love the chicken wire but I understand that not all things are for show. We have to be able to hide some things.
ReplyDeleteYou know last year we painted our kitchen (got rid of wallpaper). Today I looked at the curtains that I made for the room and promptly remembered that I really don't like them. Must hunt for new fabric...and someone to sew.
I think it's beautiful! I love that chicken wire. I agree that the fabric looks better behind it. I think because it softens it up. You are so clever. Sheila, you have such gorgeous, happy taste! Have a great 4th.
ReplyDeletewhat a great make over with the cabinet. now the cabinet look so Frenchy.. who knows that the fabric is just simple dotted ones.. from far it looks so much like lacey kindda fabric. and the corner looks so comfy.
ReplyDeleteDearest Shelia, Tis darling what you have done...luv this!!!
ReplyDeleteGod bless and may you have a sparkling 4th of July.
d
what a great idea!!! It looks lovely and I love that desk area!! so pretty!!
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea!!! It looks lovely and I love that desk area!! so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteYour desk area is adorable and I love both the fabrics! Love all the cute accessories too!
ReplyDeleteYou have been a hard working gal....all this painting and now the cabinets...I would love to have my kitchen cabinets painted but I'm afraid to start it....might not be able to finish...o... wouldn't that be a mess.... I liked the chicken wire and I like the curtains to. Trish
ReplyDeletehow adorable!
ReplyDeleteI think you found the perfect answer with those curtains...I love them!!!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Shelia, I'm so glad Hurricane Alex didn't cause you any harm--I was concerned for a while there.
ReplyDeleteYour desk area looks so inviting--I'm a tad envious because I would love a desk in my kitchen...
I think the fabric behind your cupboard doors looks fabulous and does the job just perfectly. I bet you love glancing over there now.
Have a great July Fourth weekend.
Your little corner is lovely! LOVE all the changes you've made. The color of the valance is so rich, and goes well with all of your roosters.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by today.
Debbie@houseatthelake
Good morning Shelia, YES, I do like what you did to your little corner of the room. It all looks spiffy and lovely. You KNOW I love your things.
ReplyDeleteDon't work too hard my dear friend. AND!!! I don't think you should climb either. Neither should I but I do when I half to. Lets agree to be VERY careful. Smile.
Have a happy day.
Love, Jeanne
How beautiful! It looks like pictures right out of a magazine. It's funny, while reading your post I was thinking, I would have to put fabric behind that wire to hide my stuff. And lo and behold, that's exactly what you did! Great (pack-ratty) minds think alike. :) Thanks for sharing the pics and thoughts. Hope you have a wonderful Fourth!
ReplyDeleteSherry @ A Happy Valentine
Love this area and all you did with it! The new curtains are adorable.
ReplyDelete- The Tablescaper
It's bright and cheery and I'd sit there too! It's a lovely space and you've added some great touches! I especially like the valance.
ReplyDeleteWhat a darlin' little area! you know I was told when you are naked, you have no clothes on, but when you are nekked.......you are up to somethin' :0)
ReplyDeleteLove what you did, Shelia! You came up with the perfect solution, and I'm wild over those tiny yellow polka dots on your fabric! SO cute! And I think the ruffle is a good solution for hiding the glaring light. I have light sensitive eyes so I completely understand! And Mr. Precious sounds like Mr. Magpie. Shhhhh, don't tell, but he offered to change a ceiling fixture and put up a fan, and I nearly fainted! While appreciative, I don't really cotton to the idea of being shocked when I flip a switch or worse seeing him decapitated when the fan FALLS on his sweet head! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you for doing what you're doing. I need to be doing it, too! I am going to in a week or so because my MIL will be visiting. You know that will mean inspection, and I must pass muster!
Happy Fourth to you and Mr. Precious!
XO,
Sheila :-)
This looks FANTASTIC! But, have you thought to try that gorgeous red print behind the chicken wire? Talk about a nice pop!!!
ReplyDeleteOf course, your white with yellow dots is darling and you'll need to enjoy that for a while.
Justiney :o )
It all looks wonderful, Ms. Shelia! I agree that your subtle dots DO create the effect of laciness behind the wire -- very nice effect. I like your wall color; it's warm, but very soothing.
ReplyDeleteHope you and yours have the happiest of July 4th holidays!
Warmest regards,
Bill
You are a handy-dandy decorator!
ReplyDeleteI do like your faux lace cupboards.
Oh yes, I love your desk area, Shelia. But I love the chicken wire, with or w/o curtains. Love the rooster paintings too. ...Christine
ReplyDeleteDEAR SHELIA,
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL...I LOVE WHITE CABINETS BUT MY HUSBAND WON'T LET ME PAINT OVER THE VERY LIGHT MAPLE CABINETS. I JUST DON'T LIKE THEM. WOULD YOU TALK TO HIM...LOL
I LOVE THE SWEET LITTLE RUFFLE DECREASING THAT BRIGHT LIGHT. I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST GLASS CABINET DOOR INSETS BUT I UNDERSTAND ABOUT NOT SEEING IN....I THINK YOUR MATERIAL DOES LOOK LIKE LACE. WHAT WOULD BE CUTE IS IF YOU HAD THE MATERIAL OF YOUR RUFFLE TO MAKE A PILLOW AND THEN PUT A RUFFLE OUT OF THE WHITE WITH TINY YELLOW POLK-A-DOTS FOR YOUR CHAIR...BUT THE PILLOW YOU PLACED LOOKED GREAT BECAUSE THE DESIGNERS SAY DON'T GET TOO MATCHY MATCHY.
MY KITCHEN IS FULL OF ROOSTERS AND CHICKENS...I LOVE THEM SO MUCH...I HAVE THE PLATES YOU HAVE ON THE WALL TO THE LEFT.
YOUR DESK IS BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE YOUR TASTE AND EYE FOR COLOR.
HAVE A WONDERFUL FOURTH OF JULY, MY SWEET FRIEND.
HUGS
SIMPLY DEBBIE
Hi sheila
ReplyDeleteYour little desk area looks so pretty. I LOVE what you did with the fabric showing through the mesh. The rooster watercolor pictures and plate just finish if off perfectly. I can just imagine you there now blogging!
Have a wonderful weekend.

I just adore this area! It is so pretty! I do the same thing with "open" style cabinets. A little fabric gives it such a nice new look!
ReplyDeleteI hope you and your family have a wonderful 4h of july weekend!
Just loved popping over and meeting you, thank you so much for joining in the blog party over at housewife bliss....looking forward to getting to know you. Best regards for a fab weekend, Coryanne
ReplyDeleteps. I just love what you created!
I love that polka dot fabric Sheila. You love yellow as I do too...it goes with everything, everything just works!~ Your little desk area is so charming and comfy looking. Right now I am squished on my couch with my boys, not too comfy, but they are checking out the garage salen party with me. You have a wonderful weekend too Sheila!!~
ReplyDeleteHoney child, I am so glad that your doors are no longer "nekked!" Too funny. My best friend was from west Texas and she used to say naked that way all the time. I just haven't thought of it forever! Your desk area looks so cute. Luv the polka dots and all your rooster decor. hugs, Sue
ReplyDeleteShelia, This is so pretty! I loved it with the chicken wire, but you're right, is does look like lace now. My favorite is that pretty green plate with the flower that sits on the cabinet. That's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with your desk area. The fabric behind the chicken wire is fantastic! Great job, my friend. Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDelete~Adrienne~
You've done such a fabulous job on your little desk area! I love the fabric behind the chicken wire. And your little vignette looks beautiful!
ReplyDeletexx
I think it looks sooooo cute! But I really love the little ruffle on the bottom. I would leave that just cause it's cute!
ReplyDeleteManuela
Your desk area looks just wonderful! A very happy, cheery spot. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a wonderful and safe 4th!
Hugs,
Anne

ReplyDeleteHugs
Alaura
Hi Shelia,
ReplyDeleteI love how light and airy this whole space feels now...soooo pretty! So you are painting all your cabinets? I did that a few years back and I do still love it. I had chicken wire in one set of cabinets...it was the ones over the desk area in my kitchen, too. Our houses must have been built about the same time. :-) Anyway, everything stayed so dusty in there that I had glass cut to go in the doors. I love your curtain idea! The fabric you chose is sooo cute...perfect to go with your red and yard birds. :-)
Hope your 4th was wonderful!
Susan
Oh Pickle I love it girl...you do come up with the best ideas for you home...I love coming by here and seeing your beautiful home...my house needs to be yours when it grows up ha ha!!you just have that magic touch with decorting my Deat friend...Thank for coming by honey...Candace is home but has to do bed rest until Landen James is born...Love you 2 my Sweet girl...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteComing back by to say I hope your 4th was a good one. When that little tiny grand gets a little bigger, Mr. Precious can buy sparklers for her. My grands loved those when they were little.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't mind the rain on the holiday...we'd much rather have the rain than see an ole parade, anyway!! :))
xo bj
I love it, Shelia! What a genius you are to cover that light with a little valance. And to put the yellow and white fabric behind the doors. Now you watch that climbing. I myself am a self-professed clumsy girl. And I know you don't want to fall and hurt yourself.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Hi Shelia, love this and the fabric ruffle is simply adorable. It is very inviting!
ReplyDeleteBarb ♥
What a cozy spot!!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Susan and Bentley

ReplyDeleteEnjoy some treats in my place,
pick 2 to 5 to post and share with friends you love.
Morning sweet Pickle! I love the cabinets and the chicken wire!!!! You know I had glass put in some of my cabinets and I swap out and use fabric behind the glass some times...but girl I am sooooo loving that little fabric ruffle idea to hide the lights...I have big bulky lights under my cabinets and that is just the cutest idea ever!!!! I know you are just loving that precious grandbaby..you have always just glowed with love and kindness and now I bet you are just beaming!!!! lol I loved my visit here today sweetie...you take care and have a fantastic week...~Picket~
ReplyDeleteSheila, as we say in the south,,,
ReplyDeleteThats mighty PURDY, mighty PURDY indeed...
Sonny
Hi Shelia
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a good 4th of July!
I like what you did with hiding what was behind the chicken wire. It looks nice and the curtain fabric is lovely...love those little yellow dots.
Your curtains still look good with the walls and the cupboards so that was good. Too bad you didn't like the other ones you'd made...that white fabric with the pretty yellow dots would look nice there I bet. Your place is just being so very darn spruced up! It looks so lovely...
Hope you are having a wonderful day.
Judi..*hugs*
Hi Shelia, thanks for stopping by. I think your curtains behind the chicken wire look great. Maybe Mr. P would put up a light rail for you on the front of the cabinet? I worry a bit about that fabric overheating -- it's so pretty. Jane F.
ReplyDeleteI know you were messing with doors, but I just love your majolica collection.
ReplyDeleteJust love those sweet doors!! And your little ruffle is so charming!! Also I really like the color of your walls!!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
I do love it, Sheila! Nice ideas for hiding the light and the inside of your cabinets! I love the ruffle fabric you have for the light. I like that you have some red even if you needed a change to the wall color.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Years ago when we build our house the den bookcases were stained dark. Of course, those were the days of dark paneling. There is a glass front gun cabinet in the center. In the late eighties, I had everything painted pale blue trimmed in white - lightened up. What a relief! Except now the guns pop out at you. I took lace panels, gathered them on a string and hot glued them behind the glass. It has worked like a charm all these years and I've never regretted it. No more guns to look at.
ReplyDeleteI love this area, including the red ruffle! Very inviting!
ReplyDeleteOh Shelia, this looks beautiful! I think you should leave the valance, even if you replace the light. It adds such personality. Your pretty fabric dressed up that chicken wire perfectly! Your desk area looks like something I'd see in a decor magazine. laurie
ReplyDeleteOOOH I love it!!! Love the little ruffle...don't change it! Love the new fabric behind the chicken wire...what a wonderful space!!! Thanks for sharing your ideas!! Nancy
ReplyDeleteLove it love it love it! You could make a slipcover in harldy no time for that not so pretty office chair too! Thanks for the inspiration....
ReplyDeletexoxo
Diane
I love your doors! I would for The Hubster to let me put chicken wire in our doors with fabric. You did a wonderful job with the update!
