I'm going to bring you into our den today. This is where Mr. Precious and I spend so much of our time. I feel so fortunate to have these great built ins on either side of the fireplace. I'll be showing you the right side today.
As you look at the center of my bookshelves on the very top you'll see an old organ grinder with his little monkey. I've had this for about 30 years or so. He plays music too! The next shelf down holds a lovely tray I bought at a garage sale long ago and two little tiny lamps that have had more shades than Jackie O! As you can see, more little birds have gathered here. Then the colorful picture hanging above the tray was bought in France a few years ago. It shows the different seasons. Love this most tinyness of a painting. Can you love a most tinyness of a painting? You bet your Ooo La Las you can! :)

Now don't forget to pop on over to Marty's ~ you'll have a ball.

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~
I Am Woman
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can do anything
I am strong
I am invincible
I am woman
You can bend but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul
Oh, yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can face anything
I am strong
I am invincible
I am woman
I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand
Oh, yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can face anything
I am strong
I am invincible
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman

Everything shows up so beautifully on them..I can't seem to get enough of white lately..but I've always loved it. Now I want my furniture in the living room white and have done the end tables. I keep coming back and looking at yours. I would love to paint that cabinet of mine. It was my Mom's and I am wondering if I would be sorry.....or love it! What do you think?

Sweet Up-North Mornings...
Oh my goodness...you do have the most beautiful home, dear one. So pretty. I love everything you are showing me and if you will come see me, I will bake you a German Cake..
ReplyDeleteA story...I KNOW how you like stories....:)
Whe Mr. Sweet and I first married, I was not the worlds best cook by a long shot. In fact, barely BARELY could I cook. He, loving these cakes so much, asked me to bake one. I just about D.I.E.D. since I didn't have a CLUE. So, what does a girl do but holler MOMMA....she said yes, she would teach me to bake that cake. So, step by slow step, we spent a couple hours, measuring, sweating, stirring, praying, tasting.....finally, I brought that beautiful cake out of the over, made the delicious icing...all from scratch...PURE SCRATCH. Once it was sitting on the table, my mom took my hand, lead me back into the kitchen, opened her cabinet and there sit A BOXED GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE MIX. She smiled, hugged me and said, "Now, THIS is my REAL recipe!". We have laughed over that for all these years....but, you know what....I ALWAYS make that cake from SCRATCH, 'cause she took the time to teach me!!
bwaaaaa, now I am missing my momma....
You really are quite good at arranging those shelves. It looks lovely. I enjoy your mix of styles. It all works so well together.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
Your built in's are wonderful, so nice to have somewhere to put your pretties and books. The song was fun too, I used to love singing that song!

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day. Is it hot there yet?
Donna
When people ask me how to create a well designed bookcase I will just direct them to this post.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfection! Well done.
Your new grand daughter is a truly lovely gem.
Good Morning Shelia ~
ReplyDeleteYour shelves are lovely and I LOVE the placement of all of your goodies. Great "zig~zag" book tip. I think I'll give that a try when my Spring cleaning takes me to my cluttered book shelves.
Great post!
Have a great Wednesday my dear!

Sheila, your builtin is so beautiful and you have it filled with the most wonderful treasures! Love that little doggie lamp...too cute.:)
ReplyDeletePS Your grandbaby is so adorable! And her name is precious!
Hello Shelia, All of your things are so beautiful! You have a knack for putting them together just the right way. Those little dogs are adorable ♥ I hope you are well. Give little Chloe Dawn a hug from us. I bet your little granddaughter is just growing leaps and bounds :>)
ReplyDeleteShelia, love your sweet bookshelves. You have everything displayed so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteBarb
What a lovely seating area and a place to display your treasures. How wonderful to be able to curl up with a good book and feel all cozy being hugged by your surroundings.
ReplyDeleteI took a trip to your "Den" post. Total transformation, I am in Ah, shock and disbelief on what a difference painting made. Now what were the special words you use on your Precious in order to get the den painted? I want to use those words exact words in hope it would work on my hubby. I have same dark wood den with brick fireplace and no amount of lamps are enough. We have a porch off this den so not a lot of natural light comes in from there. I want to paint it but hubby's hair turns a bit grayer each time I ask, so I have stopped asking. Its so true, what is with men and wood?
I love your built-ins, Sheila! They are on the list for the next house. I also love the way you decorated them. Great mix of books and decorative accessories.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful bookcases! I love how you have decorated them. Such pretty goodies!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
