Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

The Last of Christmas

Hello, Dear Ones! I do hope you all had a wonderful Christmas celebration with your families and friends. We had a sweet and quiet one here at Notesongs cottage! I'm not really here but traveling with my retired Mr. Precious! Well, not retired - he's turned the page and is at a new chapterness in his life! I keep forgetting to say that! :) I preposted a few times so you all wouldn't forget about me! I love Blogland and I love all of you, my Dear Sweeties! :)

Did you notice I made a new Note Songs header? Yep, I did! :) I'm so wonderful, you know! :)
I am kidding!

Christmas dinner at our house was very simple without lots of hoopla and it was nice. I've decided next year I'm going to prepare something so non traditional for us - maybe mexican! I'm getting tired of turkey or hamness! :(

Here was our tiny little Christmas table - no sparkles, no grandiosoness, just tiny food and family! We had a spiral cut turkey breast, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, scalloped potatoes, leftover ham (LOL), salad, rolls and chocolate cake. This time of year I wasn't quite up to par so the turkey breast was already cooked, I had leftover dressing that I froze from Thanksgiving, Mother made the cake, store bought brown and serve rolls, salad in a bag...you're getting the picture. I did peel and slice the potatoes and prepared that dish but all was pretty easy for me. I liked that.

Here's the centerpiece, well I guess you would call it the 'end piece' since I placed it at the end of the table. :) You can do things like this you know! I lit the candles and placed some cute little glass red pinecone ornaments all around and then added my new little Santie salt & peppers! Now you know I love my tiny little Santie salt & pepper shakers! Can you love TLSS&PS (that's abbreviated) ? Yes, yes, you can love little TLSS&PS! You bet your little tiny opened Christmas presents you can!

Here is my simple little table setting. I placed down some Christmasy colored placemats with matching napkins held in tiny little Christmas tree napkin holders. I used my every day Pfaltzgraff flatware and clear glass ice tea glasses.

These little Jim Shore Santie plates are the only things I bought new for my table this year! Isn't this so cute? I only bought four plates and there's a different Santie on each one! Just had to show you one since they're going back up in the cabinet soon.

Dinner plates are olden. I bought these at Target maybe five or so years ago and I bought enough for 24! I really do love them. Can you love Christmas dinner plates from Taget? You bet your tiny little red bullseyes you can!

Well, shoot! I've done lied to you. I did buy these little tiny square bread plates too! I forgot. These are so sweet too. Again, I only bought four and each one has a different stocking and each one spreads love, joy, peace and something else - probably butter. I am quite olden, you know! Oh, don't look at those pitiful little brown and serve rolls! They kinda got squshed!

Life at Note Songs cottage is so not perfect - look! Mr. Precious just couldn't wait and so he sampled! He sampled really big too! That little booger. Just because he's started a new chapter in his tiny life...I'm going to have to give him an adjustment! :)

Here we are in all of our tiny Christmasness. Mother looking good and feeling pretty good from her broken arm she busted up last year, Mr. Precious looking like a little stinker who needs an adjustment, you can't see her - but Chloe Dawn is under the table begging for turkey and me in all of my peakedness!

I'm joining our Dear Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday

our Dear Michael at Designs by Gollum for Foodie Friday.

Please pop on over to visit these gals and get your tiny eyes filled with inspiration!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

The Twelve Days After Christmas

The first day after Christmas my true love and I had a fight,

And so I chopped the pear tree down and burned it just for spite.

Then with a single cartridge, I shot that blasted partridge,

My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The second day after Christmas, I pulled on the old rubber gloves,

And very gently wrung the necks of both the turtle doves.

My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The third day after Christmas, my mother caught the croup;

I had to use the three Frech hens to make some chicken soup.

The four calling birds were a big mistake,

for their language was obscene.

The five gold rings were completely fake and they turned my fingers green .

The sixth day after Christmas, the six laying geese wouldn't lay,

I gave the whole darn gaggle to the A.S.P.C.A.

On the seventh day what a mess I found,

All seven of the swimming swans had drowned.

My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The eighth day after Christmas, before they could suspect,

I bundled up the eight maids a milking, nine pipers piping, Ten ladies dancing, 'leven lords a leaping, Twelve drummers drumming and sent them back collect.

I wrote my true love, "We are through, love",

and I said in so many words,

"Furthermore your Christmas gifts were for the birds!"

Redwork

Hello, Dear Ones. Here's another prepost for you! Think of me while I'm away because I'm thinking of you! :)

**************************************
I originally posted this 8/12/08

Hello Dear Ones, today I thought I would show you more of my Redwork. I found these patterns in a book from the library in the late 1980s, traced them onto some pillow cases and went to town with my little needle and red thread. I use these on our bed during the summer months. Think they look rather nice with my

matelasse cover.

This is the one on the right that says Good Night (I know you can read). I just love the old fashioned look of the fairy and the letters.

This is the other with morning glories and a sweet little bird. Did I ever tell you how creative I was? ;)

Well, I'm getting a little bit sleepy now and may need to lie down a bit and take a nap! Let me just take off my wonderful Redwork pillows and turn down the covers. Here, I'll stack them up in the corner.

uh oh...Do you see who has gotten into my bed, already under the covers and is pretending to be asleep?! Chloe Dawn! What is Mommy going to do with you? Well, schooch over...

shhh...I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

When at night I go to sleep

Fourteen angels watch do keep;

Two my head are guarding,

Two my feet are guiding;

Two are on my right hand,

Two are on my left hand,

Two who warmly cover

Two who o'er me hover,

Two to whom 'tis given

To guide my steps to heaven.

Sleeping softly, then it seems

Heaven enters in my dreams;

Angels hover round me,

Whisp'ring they have found me;

Two are sweetly singing,

Two are garlands bringing,

Strewing me with roses

As my soul reposes.

God will not forsake me

When dawn at last will wake me.

My Magazine Covers

Hello, Dear Ones! I'm not here but am traveling and have preposted some of my olden posts for you. Hope you enjoy them. I'll see you when I get back! Did you notice I've made a new header for my blog? I'm so wonderful like that! :)

***************************************

I posted this 7/8/08...

Would anyone be interested in subscribing to this lovely tea time magazine featuring MY TEA SETTING on the cover?!

Morning Dear Ones! I just had to share my (make believe) magazine covers. When I was visiting Cindy at romantichome a while back, she had made a beautiful cover featuring her lovely dining room. Well, I wanted to do it too, but didn't know if I were puter savvy enough. It was easy and I could do this too!!

If you'd like to make your own special mag cover just go to Flicker Toys - bighugelabs

Now if you are familiar with Miss Smarty Pants Chloe Dawn, you know she wouldn't have it if she were left out! She said a magazine cover was just the thing she needed. She wanted to make sure everyone would see her darling little fuzzy face. Well, here she is, in all of her fuzzy gloriness!

If you decide to make your magazine cover, please let me know. I've seen a few of these in Blogland and I think it's a marvelous idea!

Now, I have the perfect little Note Song for you today~

The Cover of The Rolling Stone

Ha ha ha I don't believe it.
Da, da, ah, ooh, don't touch me.
Hey, Ray! Hey, Sugar! Tell them who we are.
Well, we're big rock singers
We got golden fingers.
And we're loved everywhere we go.
(That sounds like us.)
We sing about beauty, and we sing about truth,
At ten thousand dollars a show. (Right.)
We take all kinds of pills,
That give us all kind of thrills.
But the thrill we've never known,
Is the thrill that'll gitcha,
When you get your picture,
On the cover of The Rollin' Stone.
(Rollin' Stone.)
Wanna see my picture on the cover.
(Stone.)
Wanna buy five copies for my mother.
(Yes.)
(Stone.)
Wanna see my smilin' face,
On the cover of The Rollin' Stone.

Merry Christmas Eve, Eve

Oh, Dear Ones! I said I was taking a break and I am, but I just have to share this with you! We've just gotten home from our Christmas Eve, Eve Service at church and our pastor played this video and it just melted my heart. It's a beautiful song but the message is so powerful. Dear Ones, I'll be in line!

Again, I wish all of you the most wonderful Christmas.

You are my sweeties,
Shelia ;)

Christmas Blessings To All My Sweeties

Hello, Dear Ones! It's almost that most special day! I want to wish you all the most wonderful blessed Christmas ever! I have so enjoyed visiting with you all this past year - my old friends and my new friends. You are all a very dear part of my life now and I treasure you.

I have a little announcement to make - Mr. Precious has decided to retire! Oh, I'm not supposed to say 'retire' but that 'he's started another chapter in his life'! So we have some new days ahead and we both are very excited about this! So I am taking a long break from blogging until about the middle of January. I'll probably be popping in on you to see how you're doing every now and then.

Again, Merry Christmas and thank you for making my life richer, fuller and sweeter.

You are my forever sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I must leave you with this little Note Song ~ which always makes me cry

Christmas in the...Ah Hem :)

Hello, Dear Ones! Well, Mr. Precious and I are having a little party here at the Note Songs cottage tomorrow night! I spiffed up the tiny little powder room for our guests and since everything is all clean and festive - I thought I'd give you a tiny peek! :)

You never know, but the Jolly Old Saint Nick just may come to our little party! He was invited you know. Well, since he's always so busy I'm sure he'll need to take a tiny little bathroom break, don't you? So everything is ready for him. When he comes in through the door this is what he'll see. Wallpaper! Yep, and lot's of it! ;)

On top of the toilet is a little wire reindeer basket filled with cinnamony smelling pine cones to scent the air with their wintry smell. Sniff sniff! Isn't that nice! :)

Now if Old St. Nick peeks over to his right or it could be his left :), his tiny black shiny peepers will see this!

Now if he should sit down, I'm just saying, he'll see this little Christmasy vignette all set up on a tiny little half moon table that was my mother's many many years ago. Snow globes among the rabbits. Hey, rabbits are Christmas too! :)

Now, St. Nick follows all the rules of cleanliness and will want to wash his hands with this special hand soap from Pier One. Isn't this the cutest thing? I found this little hand soap/lotion duo and had to have them! Smiles cuties! :)

Next Mr. Jolly will dry his tiny hands with these very special guest towels sitting in their very own little basket! I'm sure he'll get a big kick out of seeing himself on the little towels.

Then he'll take a big whiff of the scented pine candle and think about snow, reindeer and toys.

But if he looks on the walls he'll be brought back to reality and realize he's in the powder room and he had better get on with his business! Did I just say that? You bet your candy canes I did! :)

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Jolly old St. Nicholas, Lean your ear this way!
Don’t you tell a single soul, What I’m going to say;
Christmas Eve is coming soon; Now, you dear old man,
Whisper what you’ll bring to me: Tell me if you can.

When the clock is striking twelve, When I'm fast asleep,
Down the chimney broad and black, With your pack you'll creep;
All the stockings you will find Hanging in a row;
Mine will be the shortest one, You'll be sure to know.

Johnny wants a pair of skates, Susy wants a dolly;
Nellie wants a story book; She thinks dolls are folly;
As for me, my little brain isn’t very bright;
Choose for me, old Santa Claus. What you think is right.

White Christmas

Hello, Dear Ones! It snowed at Note Songs cottage, did you know that? Well, it did in 2004. It was the first snow Galveston had had that covered the ground in almost 100 years! We had come from our Christmas Eve Service at church and the little snow flurries were coming down. By around 2am the ground was white! Mr. Precious and I hopped out of bed threw on our clothes and drove all over town taking pictures. We weren't the only ones doing that. It was wonderful. And we all woke up to snow on Christmas Day!
I've just about exhausted what I can show you this year for Christmas, so I had to dig deep! :) This is upstairs on the deck. The snow was so beautiful.
Here's my little darling play in the snow and trying to scare off the big dogs. Looks like she was doing a pretty good job! :) She has snow all in her little whiskers. I love that little fuzzy face! :)
I know, I know, you've seen these two pictures of my doors. But I wanted to go to Karen's party - Doors of Welcome.

This is my very favorite Nativity. It's olden to me around twenty years old. I just love this.

Here's another olden piece. This little needlework I made in 1978! I put it out each year.

Oh, Dear Ones, although we love to look at how each of us are decorating our homes at this time of the year, please don't forget the main reason we celebrate!

I'm joining Karen at Some Days Are Diamonds for her Doors of Welcome party

and
Susan at Thoughts From Over the Rainbow for Deck the Halls Tuesdays.

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful
Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful

Oh, come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant!
Oh, come ye, oh, come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him
Born the king of angels:
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.

Highest, most holy,
Light of light eternal,
Born of a virgin,
A mortal he comes;
Son of the Father
Now in flesh appearing!
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God
In the highest:
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.

Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be glory given!
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing!
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,

Christmasing Again

Hello, Dear Ones! Well today I'm joining so many parties and memes! But I want you to stay with me so you'll have to look at all of my pictures first and then I'll share who I'm playing with today! My bad, I know! :)

Everybody is getting in full swing with Christmas and decorating. I'm just loving seeing your pretty homes and lights and decorations and crafts and...well, you know! It's a wonderful time in Blogland. So I'm having another home tour with some different pictures and hope you'll enjoy.

Mr. Precious added some little blanket lights around our tiny hedges. Twinkle twinkle...

Well, my dear dear fuzzy little Chloe Dawn is our greeter today and she says come on in.
Here we are in the entry and you can see our taaaaaaaaaaaaalll tree! It's getting dark outside so these lights are twinkling too!
Here's a mosaic of some of the ornaments on the tree. So many different ornies hang on this tree.
Peeking into the living room and there is my gift! My piano where I play my Note Songs for you.
Here's the other side of the room and I really can't believe I'm showing you this picture. You see my furniture fabrics so do not go together! Those winged back chairs are very olden and they need to be recovered but as you can see, I just haven't done that yet! :) Please forgive me...
Now we're in the den where we spend most of our time.

Now this is the Met Monday part of my post! Thank you Susan for being our most wonderful hostess! You see these wall units are very olden. About 30 years olden. The backs were wood just like the rest of the piece and when I would put anything on a shelf, the item just got lost in all of the darkness. So...I bought some really thin foam board, soft green colored fabric and covered the backs with it. This one actually has two sections because of the little hole in the back where a plug can go through. Sorry I forgot to get a before shot.
It was really hard to get a good shot of these. This wall unit has three sections. I just measured the openings, cut the foam board, cut fabric a tad bigger and just taped it onto the foam board with masking tape. Yep, and then just poked the boards in place. Pretty easy and I really like how it turned out. The fabric green color is very similar to the color in my sofa and now I can see my tiny little pretties.
Now shifting gears...I got a package in the mail yesterday and opened it up and look! My sweet blogging friend Marydon at Blushing Rose sent this to me! Can you believe it? This beautiful night light has Note Song fabric on it and pretty little froo froo beaded trim on it. Isn't it so lovely! I thank you so much, Marydon, for thinking of me. I don't deserve the kindness you've shown me, but I appreciate this so very much! Thank you so much, Dear One.

I thought the perfect place for my new gift would be in my 'Crystal Bar'! This is where I keep most of my crystal. Our house is olden and there are mirrors - big big mirrors in here on all three sides with glass shelves. So what better way to showcase my shiny twinkly crystal?
So I tossed a few Christmas balls in here and now it's all Christmasfied.
Look! I have a ornament wreath too! Mine is probably about five years old - way before I discovered Blogland. Guess where I first saw one of these wreaths? In a Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine. Boo Hoo, I miss that mag! :( She had used vintage glass balls and a few little Christmas toys. I loved it. Then in the "good" days of HGTV I saw a tutorial on how to make an ornament wreath from the show "Room by Room". Well, I wanted to make a wreath too. But I wasn't going to go to the trouble of making one with glass ornies that would break - so I went in search of nonbreakable ornies - good old plastic. Now as you can see I didn't use all one color or even all one size. I mixed it all up and after all of these years, I still like my silly colorful wreath.
Twinkle, twinkle, shiny shine!
I'm not purposely getting into each of these shots...it's just impossible to hide with all of the mirrors. So I'm just waving at you! Hi, Dear Ones!! :)
Now we're on the sunporch which is right behind the den.
I love my shell wreath I made a few years ago and she was so sad not to have any Christmasness. So I tied some soft white balls onto some ribbon, attached it and now she is all Christmasy! Smile sweetie! She just loves the attention! :)
I've shown you this little tree before but thought I would make a mosaic to show you some of my painted on the inside balls!
I just loves these! I've been collected these for around ten years. I just love these! I've said that already haven't I?
Here we are in the breakfast room and my tiny little hutch is all Christmasfied today and filled with Santies!
I must show you this. I entered a giveaway from Traci at Beneath My Heart and I won! She made this darling little gingerbread family and put our tiny names on each little one! Isn't this just one of the cutest little things you've ever seen? Thank you Traci.

I'm using this same photo that I used in my last Christmas tour and guess what? This photo is beginning to be my favorite. I love seeing my little Chloe Dawn watching her mommy take this picture. Thank you all for coming to see me.

Here are the parties and memes I'm participating in today:

The Nester is hosting the "Christmas Tour of Homes"

Cielo from The House in the Roses is hosting "Show Your Cottage Monday"

Mary from Little Red House is hosting "Mosaic Monday"

Susan at Between Naps on the Porch is hosting "Met Monday"

and dear Sally at Smiling Sally is hosting "Blue Monday". Pop in to visit all these blogs today and see all the fun and inspiration happening on this wonderful Monday!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

I Want A Happopotamus for Christmas
(I think this song is a hoot!)

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

(Short Music Interlude)

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

(Short Music Interlude)

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!
