Foodie Friday - Easter Eats?

Hello, Dear Ones and welcome to Foodie Friday which is hosted by our wonderful Dear Gollum at Designs by Gollum.

I know Easter is long past, but I didn't get to share my little food with you. Hope you don't mind.
We eat pretty simply around here and our Easter fare is almost always the same each year. We always have ham. This year we had a honey glazed spiral cut ham. It was so good, juicy and tender.
Have to have Mr. Precious' favorite - sweet potatoes with marshmallows melted on top. Well, the potatoes have been boiled in their jackets and then peeled and mixed with brown sugar, vanilla extract, butter and an egg. Then put in the oven covered with the little white puff balls and baked!

Then English peas! Why are these little pops of green called English? Does anyone know?
And bread! We love our bread and we had Sister Shurbert's frozen rolls. Have you had them? They're really delicious and I always melt a little butter with some parsley flakes and spread on them before they bake.
Then I wanted to show you my Bordallo egg plate with bunnies and carrots all around filled with deviled eggs. Well, not completely filled ~ I added a few strawberries for prettiness! I'm so clever, ya know! :)
Now we're looking at dessert on my old antique server. See my most perfect green candlesticks?
I know this is supposed to be about food, but you can't have food without dishes, can you? :)

Fruit, lovely, juciy friut sitting on my Arthur Court bunny tray. More strawberries, cantelope and blackberries. Blackbabies ~ that's what my children called them when they were little. Of course, they called strawberries ~ strawbabies. See? They got their cleverness from me! You know I'm kidding! :)
What can be easier than a store bought angle food cake sitting on my pretty pink cake stand!
A little whipped cream, sitting in my pink depression bowl, to top your fruit or your cake or both!
I can't help myself! This is just so sweet! Bunny holding olden Easter postcards! I just love sweet, don't you?
I know, I know, I can't help it! I have to show you a few little dessert plates I bought! Oh, and see? I'm useing some very pretty paper napkins. It's okay if they're pretty! :)
I saw these long ago before Easter and just had to have them! They were calling my tiny name! You know how it is!
Little duckies!
Little chickies!
And little rabbits! Aren't they the sweetest thing! I had a hard time useing these little plates though. I had to schooch all of my dessert to one side so I could look at the bunnies! :P

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Roly Poly
Eatin' corn and taters
Hungry every minute of the day
Roly Poly
Gnawin' on a biscuit
As long as he can chew it it's okay

He can eat an apple pie
And never even bat an eye
He likes anything from soup to hay
Roly Poly
Daddy's little fatty
I bet he's gonna be a man someday

Roly Poly
Scrambled eggs for breakfast
Bread and jelly twenty times a day
Roly Poly
He eats a hearty dinner
He needs lots of strength to sing and play

He's up at dawn to do the chores
And he runs both ways through all the stores
He works up an appetite that way
Roly Poly
Daddy's little fatty
Fatty's gonna be a man someday

Tablescape Thursday

First of all, did you notice I changed my blog dress! Oh, yes, Dear Ones, I wanted to look like springtime too! So many of you change your dresses so often. I kinda stick with my olden looks. So today I'm feeling light and easy and free! You'd think I was a hippie from the '70's, wouldn't you? Or maybe an advertisement for a 1960's girdle commercial! :) Naw, just little old new springtime blog dress me!

On with the show! Welcome to Tablescape Thursday hosted by our favorite Dishaholic Diva Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Go see her today for the viewing of many more dishaholics! We're all very proud of our disease.
Not many times am I ever accused of decorating my tables simply! :) But today I thought I would! I took my tablescape to the back porch! Now I would love a screened in back porch like our Diva Susan, but no, alas I just have a little covered deck. But I like to call it my back porch. You know, being from the south and all!
Well, I've brought out an olden table cloth and I didn't even iron it for you! Can you believe it! I told you I was going with a very simple tablescape. Oh, but how I love this little olden cloth - the blues and greens and reds. Just makes my tiny mouth smile! Cute little napkins too - they aren't ironed either.

Now I'm using some new dishes ( you know me, I can't help myself! ) , but this time my buying these dishes was not my fault! A dear sweet blogging friend who has probably more dishes than anyone and who hosts a Friday Meme with food, was just a braggin' about her trip to Big Lots and was showing all the bargains and things she'd bought. I got so excited and wanted to go to Big Lots but our Big Lots was destroyed in the hurricane (it's back now, though)! Well, I got into my little old Jeep and headed up the interstate to a Big Lots and went right straight into that store and found me some new dishes! Now I know many of you bought the big box with all of the serving pieces and things, but no no Nannette, not me. I bought these creamy colored ones and love them. Not my fault, not my fault at all for buying more dishes. Some Dear Gollum was tempting me and I hadn't done much praying on that day and I did not yeild to temptation! :)
I'm using my cobalt blue glasses.
Oh, just look at the condensation! Summer is a comin'!
Little domed butter pat dish. Just big enough to hold butter for Mr. Precious and me!

Little salt and peppers! I love these! Can you love salt and peppers? You bet your mosquitoes you can!
Even outdoors we must have a centerpiece. I'm using a pretty pink hydrangea Mr. Precious gave me over the weekend. I popped it in this pretty little pot!
Aren't the blooms divine? I just love hydrangeas! Can you love hydrangeas? You bet your bee's knees you can!
Joining in on the centerpiece is a lovely hibiscus I just popped off my tiny bush! Now this pretty bloom is sitting in the gorgeous creamer I won from our Dear Cass' giveaway! Thank you again, Cass! Can creamers be flower pots? What do you think? ;)
Now would you please allow me to show you some of my creativity? I loved the above photo so much, I turned it into some little pieces of art! Yesserrie bob, I did!
Expressionist...
Oil painting...
Pastels...am I good or what? You know I'm kidding!
Hope you've enjoyed my simple out on the back porch tablescape today!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Summer Breeze
See the curtains hanging in the window In the evening on a Friday night A little light shining through the window Lets me know that everything's alright Summer breeze, well it makes me feel fine Blowing through the jasmine in my mind Summer breeze, makes me feel fine Blowing through my, makes me feel it right Making me feel, making me feel fine Makes me feel fine Blowing through the jasmine in my mind Oh sweet days of summer, the jasmine's in bloom July is dressed up and playing her tune And when I come home from a hard day's work And you're waiting there, yes you're waiting there Without A care in the world I see the smile awaiting in the kitchen Food's cooking and a place there for two I see the arms that reach out to hold me In the evening when the day is through Summer breeze, well it makes me feel fine Blowing through the jasmine in my mind Summer breeze, makes me feel fine Blowing through my, making me feel right Making me feel, making me feel fine Makes me feel right Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

I've Gotten Side Tracked! :(

Hello, Dear Ones! Oh, I'm so glad you've popped in to see me today. You know I'm supposed to be getting my house back in order after we moved Mother out and I've been very busy. Did you know it makes a mess to clean up a mess? You didn't know that? Well it happens at my house.

I've just been going to town moving stuff and then dusting and rearranging my pretties! Whew! That'll poop you out. So guess what I decided to do? PLAY!
I cleared my mantle in the den and thought I need a new look! Guess what popped into my tiny mind? FISH JUGS! I decided to have some fun with them and they were very helpful, too! This is the one I showed you earlier in the week. Isn't he just the most charming little thing? :)
Did I tell you I have more fish jugs! Yep, I do!
This dear fish jug is one of a pair and he was so beautiful when I bought him, I didn't have to do anything to him except feed him! I'll bet you thought he was hurling flowers, didn't you? ;) No no Nannette, he's daintily holding them in his tiny mouth!

Oh, and look at this little cute fish jug! He's just a precious little darling, isn't he? He's not hurling either ~ just holding! Did you notice my dainty creamy fingers in the mirror? Oops! ;)
I am very much a silly! I did not realize his handle said PEACE until I started taking his picture! Well PEACE is what playing with my little fish jugs gave me when I stopped my hard working and started my playing!
Here is the second fish jug of the pair! Remember, holding, not hurling! ;) Oh, and since we're coastal I must have a shell or two. This little star fish is one of my favorites and I have to keep an eye on her. She's liable to be anywhere! She plays hide and seek with me all of the time! Little stinker!
Well, there you have it, Dear Ones, the results from my afternoon of play! I don't imagine I'll keep my mantle like this, but I sure had fun playing! Mr. Precious just never knows what'll he find when he comes home from work! Hope this won't shock him too much!

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Play Me

She was morning
And I was night time
I one day woke up
To find her lying
Beside my bed
I softly said
Come take me

For Ive been lonely
In need of someone
As though Id done
Someone wrong somewhere
I dont know where
Come lately

You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the words
I am the tune
Play me

Song she sang to me
Song she brang to me
Words that rang in me
Rhyme that sprang from me
Warmed the night
And what was right
Became me

You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the words
I am the tune
Play me

And so it was
That I came to travel
Upon the road
That was thorned and narrow
Another place
Another grace
Would save me

You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the words
I am the tune
Play me

Blue Monday and Met Monday

Hello Dear Ones! I've just missed the hound dog out of all of you! I've tried so very hard to respond to your comments at night and I'm still busy getting Mother moved in ~ little things now ~ it's taking forever! And I will show you her little place once it's completed.

My house is totally upside down after moving her out! It's stressing me a bit, but I told Mr. Precious I'm not Super Women so just be patient with me and sooner or later I'll get my house set back up! Now that would make a good Met Monday, wouldn't it? ;)

Now that that's outta my system ~ I've missed posting so much and I'm cheating a bit today, but wanted to join in on the fun anyway with my sweet friends ~ Sally at Smiling Sally for Blue Monday and Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday. I'm combining them. I posted this back in August of last year, but with summer on the way I thought I would show it again. So forgive my cheating ways, Dear Ones. Hope you enjoy my combination Blue/Met Monday!

Fish Jugs with Lots of Blue Mingled In

Have you ever seen these little fish jugs before?

There are many sizes, many colors and they're so cute, don't cha think?
Here is a Majolica one that only cost $415!

Well, I had never ever seen one of these little objects until I saw my sweet friend, Linda's, from Rate My Space. ( she gave me permission to post her pictures ~ well, she did last year and I'm hoping she doesn't mind I'm doing this again! ). She had these darling little fish jugs and you can see how marvelous she made them look! She just decorated with them all over the place! Her fish jugs were just a huge hit on Rate My Space!

I don't actually 'covet' things my friends have, but boy howdy did I want a fish jug like Linda's. Look, she has three white ones and a great big colorful one in the background! I want a fish jug! I want a fish jug!

During one of my shopping trips, my eyes always looking for treasures, I spied a white fish jug like Linda's at Tuesday Mornings! I was so excited! I picked it up, looked on the bottom for the price and carefully placed it back down on the shelf... shhh...it was almost $200! Nope nope, I'll continue on my search for another more reasonably priced fish jug.

The same afternoon I went inside a little thrift store and saw two fish jugs! Hideous looking as they were, they were still fish jugs! And at $2 each, I just had to buy them. I brought them home. Chloe Dawn barked her little head off at them. She hated those fish jugs. Mr. Precious said, "Why in the world would you buy those things!" Oh, my sweet fish bubble was almost popped!

They were painted a horrible teal bluish/green with dark yucky gray accents! They looked like they could have been painted by a fourth grader - one who didn't like to paint very much! You know, they really look better in these pictures than they really were.

Not to let some yucky colors deter me, I bought some spray primer, some spray paint and some spray sealer all for glass and china and started to work on these puppies, I mean fish jugs.

Oh Gloriness! Oh Joyness! Oh Fish Jugs! What do you think?

Look at the beauty of the fish jugs singing my praises because I released them from their yuckyness <- is that a word? and brought them into the light!

During my search to find out more about my fish jugs I learned they are actually called Gurgling Cod Jugs! Excuse me, darling jugs! Because when you pour liquid from their sweet little fish lips, they are supposed to make a gurgling sound. Now isn't that the cutest thing? I haven't tried this yet...don't want to mess up my fabulous paint job! ;) Well, since this is a re post I'll tell you - they really do gurgle!

Chloe Dawn and Mr. Precious are very pleased now with my newly resurfaced Gurgling Cod Jugs! I am in Gurgling Cod Jug heaven!! Please don't tell me if I've painted over some vintage antique worth zillions of dollars!

Now please go on over to visit Sally for much blueness and Susan for much makeoverness! I don't cheat very often ~ I just wanted you to know that! ;P

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I will leave you with a little Note Song~ trust me, this is a 'real' song
Fish Heads

Fish heads fish heads,
Roly poly fish heads,
Fish heads fish heads,
Eat them up yum
In the morning,
Laughing happy fish heads,
In the evening,
Floating in the soup,
Ask a fish head,
Anything you want to,
They won't answer,
They can't talk
Took a fish head,
Out to see a movie,
Didn't have to pay
To get it in
They can't play baseball,
They don't wear sweaters,
There not good dancers,
They don't play drums
Fish heads fish heads,
Roly poly fish heads,
Fish heads fish heads,
Eat them up yum,
(yum!)
