CSI: MIami

Translation: Could Shelia have Ice? :) It was hot!

Hi Dear Ones! I just couldn't help myself! As promised, I'll be showing you some photos of our stay in Miami. More mosaics. I'm loving this stuff! Thank you, thank you Laurie for telling me how to do this. Some of you have asked how to make these cool mosaics... just click here and it will take you to the right post for the tutorial by Laurie! This is fun and it's so easy!

Well, Dear Ones, we stayed at the Fontainebleau Hotel. This is an oldie that was built in the 1950s and was considered the most luxurious hotel on Miami Beach and all the rich and famous ones graced its structure. After a few years it fell into disrepair. But, it has been restored and has come back to life in all of it's gloriness! This beautiful facility was home to many a movie set: Goldfinger, A Hole in the Head, The Bellboy, Scarface, Police Academy 5, and Bodyguard just to name a few.

I must show you our suite we stayed in. Just so lovely! First of all, I want you to know I would never boast, but I am just so very thankful we get to enjoy these wonderful places! So please know I'm just as thrilled as a kid in a candy shop to be here! :)
You can see the lovely wall color as you walk the entry. Then a little powder room with a gorgeous black vanity. Yes, this place had a beautiful little kitchen and a washer/dryer combo! No, no, I didn't wash any clothes, but maybe I should have!

Here's looking from the kitchen into the little dining area and living room overlooking the ocean. Lovely cool blues and browns - very soothing. Just so you'll know - these pillows were wonderful and we didn't have to order up ten! :) The master bath was great and also lovely ~ a shower for Mr. Precious and a nice bubble tubbie for me! We were sent some delish chocolate covered strawbabies and some H2O! Four strawbabies for me and two for Mr. Precious. They arrived before he did, so I went to town. I'm sure you understand! :)

The reason for all this spaciousness is that this is really a condo owned by someone and when they are not in residence the hotel rents it for them.

We attended a dinner and a show one evening. No, I didn't wear two outfits, just poked these two photos in here. The entertainment were three guys impersonating the singing part of the Rat Pack! Remember those guys? Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr.? The other two were Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. Anyways, these guy sang and really did have the actions of the passed on ones down to a tee! Loved it!

Now you know how I love to eat and I just wanted to share some glorious food shots with you! The photo on the bottom right hand corner was my tiny lunch ~ fish and chips ~ I just loved how it was served!

Oh, I almost forgot! This is still a place for the rich and famous to come. As I'm chewing on my tiny fish and chips, guessed who walked into the restaurant? Robert Duvall! Yes, he did! He had on a cap and was playing it cool. He was all alone and sat at a table near us. I didn't snap a picture of him or anything. The night before I heard someone went up to him after seeing him in the lobby and asked if they could take their picture with him. He said, "No thank you, honey!" So he just wanted to be left alone! That ole stinker! :)
Some food stations from our dinner! Doesn't this make your tiny mouth water? Look at the seafood and the individual molten cakes just waiting to be filled with chocolate and vanilla creams! Yummy!

One night we went to Bongos ~ a Cuban Cafe owned by Gloria and Emilio Estefan! Oh, wouldn't it have been a hoot if she had been there? But no no Nannette, she wasn't. But the food was good, don't think I've ever had Cuban food before and the entertainment was bumpy and loud!! Just what you'd expect! :) "Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga..."

Some beautiful florals I snapped!

You must be very careful when you take a little trip to the Everglades!!! There are very scarey creatures out there just waiting to gobble you up! I zoomed, I promise, I didn't get too close! Yikes!! (See? I'm getting good at these mosaics! Just kidding :P

Mr. Precious and I standing tall ~ about 14 stories up tall and a beautiful sunrise photo and a night time photo. As you can see, I can't take night time photos very well, but loved the cool look of the lights streaming from my Oops photo!

Well, hope I haven't bored you too much with my little travels. I have one more post to show you tomorrow. We took a little trip to Boca Raton and to Palm Beach. I'll have some lovelinesses to show you.

Be a bunch of sweeties,
Shelia ;)

I'll leave you with a little Note Song~

Conga

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger
Don't you fight it til you tried it, do that conga beat

Everbody gather round now
Let your body feel the heat
Don't you worry if you cant dance;
Let the music move your feet

It's the rhythm of the island, and like the sugar cane so sweet
If you want to do the conga, you've got to listen to the beat

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger
Don't you fight it til you tried it, do that conga beat

Feel the fire of desire, as you dance the night away
cause tonight were gonna party, til we see the break of day

Better get yourself together, and hold on to what you've got
Once the music hits your system, there's no way your gonna stop

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger
Don't you fight it til you tried it, do that conga beat

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
~sung by Gloria Estefan

  12. Oh Sheila, your post brought me to the place where I grew up. Yep, Miami, FL. since 1948. Miami was a gorgeous place and a wonderful fun place to live. We spent our growing up years going to the beach, going downtown Miami on the bus to take n lunch and a movie. The Olympia theater was so much fun and they always had a stage show before the movie. I saw spike Jones back then, a very good Jazz musician. If we had company, we dressed up and went to Miracle Mile to have lunch and go shopping. We wore gloves and hats. Now you know how old I am. LOL. Oh, and my senior prom was at the Fontainebleau Hotel. Such a thrill.

Enough about me. I love your mosaic pics. I so want to do that. Your photos bring back so many memories. Your vacation is so wonderful. I am so happy you had such a fun visit in Miami and Miami Beach. The condo is lovely, how lucky for you. When our son was married in Miami we stayed in the
Fontainebleau Hotel and it was under renovation then. It wasn't nearly as beautiful as it is now. Your photos captured Miami so well. It has changed so much since I grew up there. You went to some wonderful places and I know you had fun. The photos of you and Mr. Sweetie are so cute. You look very pretty in them. I love your post Sheila.

    Hugs and love, Jeanne

PS: We came home a week ago and I am loving time on my computer again.

  24. Great mosaics! Really lovely pictures! You had a great vacation!

Years and years ago (25+) Robert Duvall was dating a girl that lived across the street from us, she was a flight attendant, and she had this really big dog that she used to make all her boyfriends walk for her! And he did it too! And he would only say hello if I had my boys with me (they were only about two and three at the time).
I heard he left his wife for our neighbor and then she (the neighbor) dumped him! I don't know if it's true he left his wife for her, but it's true that our neighbor dumped him!

    All the best,
    Eileen

  25. What a luxurious suite you got to stay in! Wow! I am impressed for sure. The food looks so yummy too. I don't know if I would have wanted to share those yummy strawberries at all...they looked so good!

You took some great pictures. They are just beautiful. I also like the Oops photo with the trails of light. But that croc...scary!!! Glad you kept your distance!

Glad you had so much fun and I can't wait to see the next post!

  26. Ooh girl, you two really traveled in style, didn't you? The wall color was the very first thing I noticed in the first mosaic. Oh, that color is just beautiful with the brown and black accents here and there.

That food! Oh my, it looked yummy. And what a stinker Mr. Duval is that he can't snap a picture with a fan. Blech!

I can't stand Gloria Estafan, but Cuban food is yummy!

    Btw... you look beautiful!

Oh, you didn't take those gator pics, did you?

    Justine :o )
