Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid

My Mommy is allowing me to post on her blog for Halloween! I'm so excited! Okay, here goes...get ready to be afraid!

Oh, lookie at the scary dead dead doggie...

What? The scary dead doggie is coming back to life!!

Now, don't you think I'm so cute? My Mommy tells me I'm so beautiful. I really am beautiful. I've just come from Ms. Becky's, my groomer, and got my gorgeous locks of hair cut!

Boo!! Did I scare ya?

Okay, then, look at this picture of me. Mommy says this picture is soooo pretty and I just look like an angel. But I said, "Mommy, I want to look scary! I even have on my Halloween bandanna!"

Here's my scary face. What do you think. Are you scared yet?

Ooooo...I ain't afraid of no ghosts!

Now, how's this? I've put my bandanna on my precious little head. Do I look like a mummy? A zombie, a mean scary dog?

I've tried so hard to look scary for Halloween! I've put on my Halloween bandanna, I've put on my scary mean dead dog face and my Halloween headband and none of you were scared! Mommy says, I'm just too precious to be scary. She calls me her little precious Chloe Dawn. Well, that's my name. I guess it's okay not to be she comes with a cookie for me!

The Scary Chloe Dawn

If my precious scary Chloe Dawn didn't scare you, I would like to try! Ya Ha Ha!!!

Now I would like to tell you a story that my grandfather told and said it was a true story. My grandfather was born in the late 1800's and passed away when I was three, so I don't remember much about him. But my Daddy told me this story many times and now I would like to tell you...

Many years ago, when people traveled (by horse and buggy) there were no motels or even hotels in every town where they could spend the night. It was customary in the deep south to knock on some one's door and ask to stay with them for the night.

That was the case in our story. A man had traveled so long and hard but failed to reach his destination and it was getting dark. He was too tired to go on. He saw a house with the lights (lanterns) burning, knocked on the door and asked if they had a room where he could spend the night? "Of course!", the man who opened the door said. "First room on the right at the top of the stairs."

The weary traveler looked around at all the folks in the parlor and saw quite a few evil looking men playing cards and drinking. He was just so grateful to have a place to rest so he hurried up the stairs to his room.

Now not many places had electric lights at this time, so candles and kerosene lanterns were used. Our traveler was too tired to care if he lit the lantern and so proceeded to get ready for bed. He took off his boots and socks and walked up to the bed. He was walking in something, he felt it, he was sticky! He took out a match, lit it and saw it was BLOOD he'd been stepping in! He followed the trail of blood under the bed and saw the body of a man! He was so terrified!

He knew he would be the next victim of these evil men! They had probably killed this poor guy and took his money!! He thought quickly what to do. He put his socks and boots back on and then he dragged the body out from under the bed and placed the poor fellow on his side, covered him back up and just waited.

Hours had gone by. He was so sleepy, but he couldn't allow himself to doze off! He stayed close against the wall so when the door opened it would hide him from their view.

Sure enough, hours had passed and he heard footsteps creeping up the stairs! He held his breath, so afraid! The mob of men crept into the room and tiptoed over to the bed. They all had knives in their hands - he could see an occasional glimpse of metal. Suddenly they all began stabbing the poor dead fellow! Our traveler escaped from behind the door where he was hiding, ran down the stairs and hopped upon his horse and he was out of there. He lived to tell this tale.

Romantic At Heart

I must confess, I'm a romantic at heart! I do believe this started when I was in the eighth grade. During the summer my teacher had suggested a number of books to read - a couple were written by ladies with the same last name - Bronte. The rest is history! A true romantic was born.

Now, I've mentioned before our dear daughter and son-in-law lived in England for a couple of years. On one of our visits to see them, dear daughter had planned a trip just for me! You see, I had introduced her to the famous Bronte sisters. We hopped on this little steam train and headed to a little town, Haworth, on the Yorkshire moors. This, Dearest Ones, was the home of the Bronte sisters: Charlotte, Emily and Anne.

We were thrilled to see the magic and charm of this little town on the hillside.

Doesn't this just look like a fairy tale town?

But first things first! It's lunchtime and we had to have some Yorkshire Pudding - it is made from batter and most often served with roast beef, vegetables and served with gravy. Ye Olde Bronte Tea Room had to be the place!

After lunch it was time to tour the home (parsonage) of the famous Bronte sisters.
This is the only existing painting of the sisters. Anne is on the left, Emily in the middle and Charlotte is on the right. This portrait hangs in their home and was painted by their brother, Branwell Bronte, whom himself wrote poems. Look closely and you'll see an outline of a figure that is no longer there. He painted himself in, but later painted himself out. He lived a very troubled life.

These ladies were daughters of a very strict Anglican clergyman who was the pastor of this church. Their mother died at an early age. They all at one time went off to attend school, but eventually ended back up at the parsonage (their home).

The graveyard is right in front of the parsonage. It was eery looking, but at the same time beautiful.

The time of our visit was the end of October and the leaves were turning.
Elizabeth Gaskell, a friend, wrote their bio and that is how the world has come to know about their lives. She writes of three girls who grew up on the wild and isolated moors, spending most of their time together writing stories which was their passion.
Now to the romance...
This is the start of my romantic heart! How clever I am! ;) Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Have you read it?
It was made into a movie in 1944! There is a newer version, but I still prefer the old black and white movie staring Joan Fontaine and Orson Wells.
If you get the change to read this book - PLEASE DO! If you get the chance to see the old movie - PLEASE DO!

But this, Dearest Ones, is my all time favorite book by Emily Bronte - Wuthering Heights! If you've not read this, you really don't know what you're missing. This is a story told in a backflash by the housekeeper. She tells of a doomed and tragic love, conflicting passions and revenge.'s just wonderful! Cathy and Heathcliff, be still my heart.
This wonderful literary work was also made into a movie in 1939, staring Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier, before he was a 'Sir'! They both were at their most beautiful, I believe, in this movie. Again, there is a later version of this movie, but I just love the black and white one.

Dearest Darlings, it's true, they don't make them like they used to...books or movies. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading some of the literature from these sisters, and even their brother wrote a book of poetry, go to your library and check out Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. I don't think you'll be disappointed and you may find out ~ you're a romantic at heart, too!

I'm So Thrilled!! Awards and a Diva!

Attention! Attention!! Oh, Browsing Ones, we must interrupt this posting of 'thank yous' and awards to bring you the latest breaking news!! We are always on top of the Breaking Bathroom Business News and you can count on us to bring it to you FIRST!

Okay, Questioning Ones, we've just found out another Bathroom attack! Another invasion! What is Blogland to do? Send in the Diva of Bathroom Business ~ me!
Here I am with toilet brush in hand and I will do my inspection of this lovely one now! I'm never too busy for my Bathroom Business.

Well, Pondering Ones, I sort of see a gorgeous face and I'm sure if I could see it, it would possess the most peaches and creamyness of complexions. I'm sure there are two gorgeous eyes, we can only imagine, Dear Ones! I do see the most gorgeous of locks just filled with bathroom hightlights - now this is a very good sign, Marveling Ones! Now I don't see any slender arms, but I do see the most daintiest hands with the creamiest of fingers attached to a CAMERA!! Yes, yes!! We have another Bathroom Diva!Do we know this most gorgeous one? Well, I'm peeking around the camera to see her face and yes, yes, this is our own Connie, I do call her Connieness, at Oh, Dear Peeping Ones,this is the sweet little chickee you've ever seen. She is all romantic in her home and has a Love Bunny!! Woo Hoo!! Okay, I'll get into my Bathroom mood, robe, my crown, would you please pick my toilet brush up off the floor? Ahem...Dear Connieness, I am about to crown you with the most sought after title in the are now a Daring Darling Bathroom Beauty Snapping Diva and will be one for ever and ever and until the twelfth of never. Now go, Connieness, and show your gorgeous face to bathrooms ever where.

Tablescape Tuesday

Attention! Attention!! Before we can start our Tablescapeing, we have the latest breaking news!! Do you see this bathroom? Darling Tuesday Ones, it has been invaded! That's right ~ at this very moment in Plains, Georgia, while on a tour of former President Carter's childhood home, someone broke the rules and opened a security gate and barged in to do some snapping!Can you believe this, Trying To Remember What Pres. Carter Looked Like Ones? Well, I think he ate a lot of peanuts, although that had nothing to do with his looks, well, maybe it did, and he had big front teeth and...oh, excuse me. We need to get on with the business at hand! Bathroom Business!! Okay, I'm your gal - the Diva of Bathrooms....
I have my toilet brush in hand and I'm ready for the inspection. Okay, I can see clearly now, that's a song, oh Singing Ones! I see the most beautifulness of faces, the most peaches and creamyness of complexions, two, yes, that's right, two lovely sparkling eyes, a smile just filled with the pearliest of whiteness and this lovely one is draped with priceless jewels. Okay, so far so good, Sweet Genuine Ones. There is the most gorgeousness of locks filled with bathroom highlights ~ you cannot get highlights like these at your salon, no no Nanette! Only a bathroom will do for a true Snapping Diva. Onward, (as I'm holding up my toilet brush!) Wait, I see no arms, can you, Oh Puzzled Ones? Oh, my goodness, we've never had an armless Diva before, Astonished Ones! I can see no dainty hands with the creamiest of fingers either! Oh, the shock of it! I must settle down a bit...okay I'm better now...I think I get it, Trick or Treat's almost Halloween and this lovely one is pulling a funny on us! Somehow she has manged to snap her lovelyness without using her arms or hands! This is certainly a Diva!! Yes, Dear Trembling With Fear Ones, this is the real thing, and I don't mean Coke! This is a Daring Darling Bathroom Beauty Snapping Diva!! Do we know her? Why of course we do, this is Donna at Congratulations, Donna!! I now crown you with the most sought after title in Blogland and maybe even the world!! Hi, and welcome again to Tablescape Tuesday hosted by the most talented tablescaper ever, Susan, at BetweenNapsOnThePorch. Many of us are having so much fun setting our tables, so go over and check her out.

Today I'd like to show you a tablescape that I blogged about when I first started my blog in June of this year. This is a little setting for just us girls to drink peach tea, eat cookies and talk!
The table has a soft moss green tablecloth and I'm using little tea napkins with a tiny little embroidered flower on one corner.

I rather love the roosters and I found these precious little rooster dessert plates! No dinner plates, no bowls, no cups, just dessert plates! But aren't they the cutest little things? These little roosters are ever so feminine and these little plates are sitting atop white dinner plates I'm using as chargers. The white plates are quite old and I do have a set of these.

Here is the peach tea and I'm ready to pour you a glass. The glasses I'm using today are pink depression glass - these glasses are very old. I'm using them only today because it's such a special occasion - you're here! Also, I think it's a nice little touch to tie a ribbon around the handle of my tea pitcher, don't you?

You are looking at a sugar scuttle and I have this delightful accessory because of Susan, our hostess today! As I've said, Susan and I go back to Rate My Space days and she was wowing everybody back then with her tablescapes. She had shown a sugar scuttle on her table and I just fell in love with it. I don't think I had ever seen one before. Lo and behold, the very next day I went to my favorite little thrift shop and this little cutie was just sitting there calling my name. I snatched it up in a heart beat, brought it home and shined it up! Now it didn't have the little scoop that should be with it, but a little sugar spoon works just fine! Isn't it just the most darling thing?

The flower arrangement was made by me ~ just stuck some faux flowers in a white tea pot. Some of you probably say no no no to faux. But I say yes yes yes these work just fine ( I couldn't think of anything to fit here that would rhyme with 'yes' ) As I've said before, don't hate me ~ I love my faux flowers and my faux flowers love me!

This is a pretty little crystal candy dish that is just perfect for a few extra ice cubes. Isn't it nice when you can use something you already have in a totally different way?

I have a double crystal candlestick that is holding two little votive cups with votive candles inside. We girls just love to have a little candlelight, even in the light of day.

I'll give you a cookie ~ peanut butter cookies sitting atop a hand painted glass platter. I told you I would serve food last week. Cookies are food, aren't they? I love my peanut butter cookies and I know you can absolutely love peanut butter cookies!!!
