I Would Like To Introduce You To "Edra"

Good morning! Are you familiar with Craigslist? Do you love it as much as I do? I have a little story to tell you. I needed, yes, needed is the word, a little cabinet of some sort and thought Craigslist would be the place to search.

I pulled up a picture of this adorable little cabinet and prayed, "Oh, dear God, that's perfect! Please let it still be available!" I emailed and it was available and I could come out to look at it that very day!
I took my 85 year old Mother with me for the ride and I guess for another reason - she is very good at getting people to lower their prices on things. After all, this little beauty was missing a drawer pull for heaven's sakes!

Bless my little Mother's heart, she talked the lady into letting me have this little beauty for $60! I almost felt I was stealing it! Look at the little what-not shelves on both sides!

I couldn't wait to get started on it. I sanded, primed and painted it "Posh Red" from Lowe's! I love reds. It's really not a bright in your face red, but a rich darker red. The color never looks the same in a picture, does it?
Okay, I'm done, but what is this cabinet called? I don't know for sure, but I'd say it was a secretary! Since my Mother is my best friend and I love her dearly, I would name my little secretary after her. Mother's middle name is Edra - pronounced with a long 'e'. It's a pretty name, isn't it?

I would love to introduce you to Edra!

I didn't know where to put her and I'm not sure if she'll stay here, but for now she's in our entry. She's very beautiful in her 'Posh Red' paint and Mr. Precious thought she needed this floral arrangement sitting on top of her head. I personally think it looks like she's wearing her Easter Bonnet. But I'll deal with this later.

Now Edra is in fine form. Just look at her very shapely legs!! And those knobs! Now, don't be thinking dirty thoughts! I tried so very hard to find drawer pulls similar to what she had, but alas, no luck. So I just went with some little antiqued brass knobs. I shined up the little original knobs on the doors and they look just fine...so they'll stay!

Isn't she just the sweetest thing!?

Look at the little what-not shelf on the left side...

...and the one on the right side.
Poor Edra, she does have to wear glasses! But I think they're very stylish looking on her even if they are old! See the gorgeous wood and how it turns on the glass doors! Now you can see the original little brass knobs all polished up - by me!

Here she is! I truly hope she isn't embarrassed because I really don't know exactly how to dress her. I don't know if my tea set looks right here, or what I have on the what-not shelves, or even what's behind her glass doors! Please, if you have some suggestions I'm very open to them. I don't have any old officey things for her! Alas, sob sob :'(

Edra was just a little embarrassed to open her doors in Blogland. But I reassured her you were all very mature and would only look with the intention of helping her to be her best! She agreed...you can look now.

Now, I think my little books look nice here, but maybe I don't have enough? And that biscuit jar, does it belong inside Edra? I guess you've noticed the doggie bookends. Well, let me tell you...I love dog things...you probably know this. I saw these at Marshall's and grabbed them up! Got to the checkout and realized I had the two right sides of the bookends. These were the last of the doggie bookends and I wanted them, so here they sit - two right sided doggie bookends. Edra is a little embarrassed, she doesn't want to look lopsided. I've tried to assure her that I don't think she does.

So, Dear Ones, if you have any suggestions as to how to dress Miss Edra - I'm open!

uh oh...
There's Chloe Dawn rolling around on the carpet and trying to be so cute. She is very jealous and knows I am giving my attention at the moment to Edra and not her! What's a Mommy to do?

I'll leave you with a little Note Song ~

The Lady in Red

I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight

I've never seen you shine so bright

I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance

They're looking for a little romance

Given half a chance

And I've never seen that dress you're wearing

Or that highlights in your hair

That catch your eyes I have been blind

The lady in red is dancing with me

Cheek to cheek

There's nobody here

It's just you and me

It's where I wanna be

But I hardly know this beauty by my side

I'll never forget the way you look tonight

I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight

I've never seen you shine so bright you were amazing

I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side

And when you turned to me and smiled it took my breath away

And I have never had such a feeling such a feeling

Of complete and utter love, as I do tonight

The lady in red is dancing with me

Cheek to cheek

There's nobody here

It's just you and me Its where I wanna be

But I hardly know this beauty by my side

I'll never forget the way you look tonight

I never will forget the way you look tonight

The lady in red

My lady in red

I love you

  1. That is a very lovely piece of furniture you found and the colour you've painted it is one of my favourites! I think what you have done looks good, I like that tea set. You'll probably find if you aren't sure about it all that you'll see and think of ways to change it up to suit your needs and design as it sits there. I can't believe the deal you got it for. Good for you.
I'm back to work after my 3 week vacation..*sigh*. I wish I was back out there again already!
    Enjoy your day.

  6. Edra is gorgeous in her red coat and flower bonnet! So while you were working your fingers to the bone deciding what Edra should hold, Mr. Precious was sitting with his feet up and Chloe Dawn was rolling round on the carpet? Of course, Chloe Dawn would probably like to see Edra full of doggie cookies and new toys.

Oh Sheila, you are a woman after my own heart. I'm a Craigslist junkie! There are some great deals to be found on Craigslist. I only wish I had a place to put all the unique furniture pieces I see advertised for sale.

"Edra" is B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.! She was an amazing find and what a great makeover you gave her!

And, of course when I saw her sitting in your gorgeous foyer, I was reminded of that spectacular photo of your Christmas tree with the "snowflakes" of light dancing on the wall. I'm sure I have looked at thousands of photos on RMS but such a lasting impression that one picture made. I will NEVER forget that photo of your Christmas tree!

  13. Hi Shari! Oh, that you so much for remembering me! I'm honored that you would. I don't to RMS much anymore - Blogland is much more fun!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia :)

  14. Hi Shelia -
You found a treasure! What a sweet new addition to your home. You did a good job accessoring Edra. She looks good where she is.

We love craigslist. I found my 'new' kitchen range on CL and my sweetheart just bought four 'new' tires with fancy wheels for his pickup. We also found our travel trailer on CL and will, undoubtedly, keep shopping there and find more wonderful things we can bring home.

  17. What a great find you got. I think that she looks perfect and very beautiful in your entry!

I have to share that they played Lady in Red at every dance I went to through high school and that my senior year I got a read dress for Senior Prom my last high school dance and I was so excited because I knew that my boyfriend (at the time) would sing to me as we were dancing when they played it. Well, we got to prom and they had a live band, and they NEVER played Lady in Red. I was so bummed.

  35. Edra looks awesome in her new red "dress!" I would definitely call her a secretary, but she almost looks like a table that someone attached a hutch to. Looks like she found a good home in your house and lots of new friends to sit with her and chat!
